I wanted my skin to glow for my birthday, and that's just what it did after my facial with Cassi. She was absoulutely amazing! I have had a number of facials at several different locations. None have compared to the one i received at the dragontree. My entire experience there was fantastic. I highly recomend it to anyone looking for a calm and soothing spa experience.
Pros: everything
Cons: thin walls

My best friend and I decided we needed a regular spa day and went to several different places before we tried Dragontree. We have been back several times and this is our spa of choice. We usually pick a package of some sort and haven't had a bad experience yet. The environment is tranquil and calming. The spa smells wonderful. Everyone I have worked with is considerate and friendly. The music is not obtrusive but definitely makes you relax. I am on their mailing list and love their monthly specials. There are pitchers of water everywhere so you can keep hydrated, and comfy couches to wait between services.
Pros: quiet calm environment, nice dry sauna for before services
Cons: first appointment of the day, make sure and inquire about the sauna and get there early to use

i recently visited the Dragontree and was in aww. i don't know what they use but that place smells amazing! it was soooo relaxing! i recieved a facial while my friend got a massage and we were both VERY pleased. cassie, my esthetician was great! i felt so relaxed, and my skin was glowing afterwards. plus, they have a sauna. a spa is not a proper spa without a sauna. like i said, wow. we both floated out of there, and can't wait to find an excuse to go back!
Pros: everything
Cons: parking

My friend recommended this spa couple of months ago. I came in for a treatment that included a foot bath, massage and a facial. The food bath and the massage were ok but I particulary loved my facial from Ginny and since then I have been coming in regularly for facials, waxing and more. When I called to schedule an appointment couple of days ago I was surprised to hear that my esthetician Ginny had gone somewhere else to work, and even more surprised that they would not tell me where she had gone. I was dissapointed to say the least. The receptinist told me that the new esthetician could get me in and that she was very talented. So I went ahead and made the appointment and went in. I was not impressed with my facial, the new esthetician seemed stressed, annoyed and overall not very happy to be there. I did not at all feel relaxed or even welcomed, instead I felt like she was just trying to rush me out of there so she could go home. It did not compare to my previous facials from Ginny. I don't think I'm going back.

My boyfriend and I recently spent a weekend in Portland, and an incredible afternoon at the Dragontree! The warm atmosphere, courteous staff and attention to detail cannot be overstated. It proved worthwhile to arrive for our appointments early -- we were able to take advantage of the Dragontree's sauna rooms and tea service prior to our heavenly footbaths and massages. Our masseuses were quite professional and knowledgeable, and we left our massages feeling like new! The Dragontree is a spa sanctuary. I recommend it highly.
Pros: Atmosphere, staff, sauna, unique spa treatments, tea list!
Cons: none

I'm not a "spa" guy, but my girlfriend talked me into going to this place with her last year. I got a massage and a footbath, and it was very cool. I'm an attorney and things can get pretty stressful, so it was fantastic to just completely relax for an hour or so. Everyone is very soothing and the place has a nice combination of natural light (there's a big sort of frosted and shaded skylight above the place where they do footbaths) and dim warm lighting. The massage was awesome. I can't really compare this to any other spa, because I've never really been to another one, but I can say that I have now had a few afternoons here, and they are perfect. It's a really welcome place to chill out.

To call this a spa simply under-delivers on what I would consider a "spa" - this word usually evokes the image of facials, waxing and beauty treatments - but to underestimate this spa in that way would be a disservice. You CAN get those treatments, but that is the tip of the iceberg, and obviously not the focus of The Dragon Tree where they truly provide holistic services. I visited with a gift card from my sister for a Custom Package that included a foot bath and foot massage in a gorgeous relaxing atmosphere, a one hour massage (my therapist was Glen and if he isn't booked solid for the next ten years it's only because people don't know about him and his mad skills), and a facial. My mind, body, and senses were simultaneously immersed in a heavenly afternoon escape. If I could convey my enthusiasm for this spa in actions I would cartwheel to you at this moment and shake you into action...GO treat yourself! Upon leaving I scheduled an appointment with the acupuncturist Peter and another massage, I can only imagine how fabulous these treatments will be if they compare in any way to my experience so far. On a side note the receptionist referred me to the coffee shop next door for a late lunch and cup of joe - and was dead on, it was fantastic! Great Staff!
Pros: Excellent massage, peaceful atmosphere, thoughtful staff, attention to detail.
Cons: ONLY THAT I COULDN'T STAY FOREVER!

I have been going to Dragon Tree for facials for a little over a year now and will no longer return. I was dissappointed to hear that my favorite esthetician is no longer there and her service was the only thing I found especially pleasing about the entire spa. I refuse to receive facials from anybody else. You have lost a loyal customer. -Amanda W.
Cons: Rude staff, Bad at keeping appointments, Inconvenient location

This has been my favorite spa for 2 years now. They have fantastic massage therapists. Something has happened at the front desk over the past 2 months and I'm giving up. In December I scheduled appointments for myself and 2 friends. I was called back and told that they overbooked but that we could come in the next day. I called back and said we would take the new day and time. Upon our arrival for the appointments, we were told that our appointments were the day prior and they couldn't see us. The person in charge did the best she could to make it right. Sometimes things happen. Two weeks ago, I called and scheduled an appointment. Soon after I got the call back stating that they thought they could move things around but it turns out that they couldn't accomodate me. Today, I called to see if I could get in for a massage. I was told that I could be seen in an hour. Within 2 minutes, I received a call back stating that a therapist was available but there was no room available and they were sorry but I couldn't be seen today. I was informed that systems were being changed and that things were a little unorganized. This is entirely unacceptable for a neighborhood business (or any business for that matter) and think that they should cease doing business until they have fixed the critical process of effectively booking an appointment. If this has happened to me everytime I've tried to get in in the last 2 months (3 times now), I can't help but think that it is happening to others. How long does it take to get it together? An extreme disappointment and I will no longer continue to reccomend this as the best spa in Portland.
Pros: Great Massages, Great Location, Nice Environment
Cons: Can't schedule appointments

The Dragon Tree is the real deal - it walks like a spa and quacks like a spa because it really IS a spa! I've been coming here for about a year and I have had consistently wonderful experiences with massage and foot baths (although I'm really sad that my favorite massage therapist left). The staff is very friendly, professional and accommodating and not even remotely snooty (unlike some other local 'spas' - some of which aren't even really spas). They have a wide range of services available and I love that you could just come in for a foot massage/foot bath and take a little downtime or you could spend practically the entire day there. The space is also gorgeous and very calming/comfortable - it's easy to relax in this environment. The low lights and warm colors definitely take the edge off. I can finally stop trying a new spa every time I want spa services - the search is over and I found the winner. I'd had several spa visits in Los Angeles and Las Vegas before moving to Portland and trying a 'spa' here. One problem in Portland is that it seems like some places just randomly call themselves 'spas' and I'm not sure what qualifies them to label themselves as such (i.e. in LA, when you go to a spa, you can expect that there will be changing facilities with lockers and sauna/jacuzzi/cold plunge/steam room [or all of them] and that the staff will offer beverages and that the hospitality is warm and gracious; a place where you are sent to a room to change, have your service and re-dress all in the same room is not a spa, Portlanders!).
