Sub par service and pedicure!
by Adnilem
I have tried Dosha twice now, both times at the Hawthorne location, and walked away disappointed. I get gift certificates there every Christmas from work. First, the ladies giving my friend and I pedicures were rude, talked loudly to one another about personal matters while caring for us (which made my friend and I feel as though we should sit quietly and not interrupt them) and walked off when finished without even telling us whether we were done or what was happening. When I paid with my gift certificate the cashier rolled her eyes and proceeded to help another customer in front of me because she said only managers could deal with gift certificates (WTF!). I ended up waiting 20 minutes for the manager to find time to check us out so we could leave. To make matters worse, the nail polish application was no better than what I can do myself at home (and I'm really not that good!). Even more... there was money left on my gift certificate. They took down my name and the amount onto a little business card they keep in a box at the front desk. Recently, I moved and now I can't find my certificate anywhere so I called to inquire about what i could do- the answer is nothing. They have the card, yes, but that is to make sure I don't try to change the amount myself apparently and can't be used to prove anything else. Ridiculous! Now I'm out almost 100 dollars with of a gift certificate!
- Pros: Aesthetically pleasing salon... great aveda products...
- Cons: Everything else. Everything.
WTF
by jenneven
I recently had the experience of being a model for a test cut with Dosha for a friend applying for a position. Let's start by saying my friend has 8 years of experience and trained with the biggest names in the industry. After my test cut, the instructor didn't even comb through the cut. He didn't even look at it to see what kind of a job was done nor did he look at any other of the test cuts going on. He said to my friend, that he didn't do a hand massage, and that's what they were looking for. Aveda trains to give hand massages with their cuts. Fine. But this is what you are looking for in a stylist. After reading through the reviews, I understand why they are performig so low. So my friend with 8 years of experience, coming to Portland from Seattle with clients who have followed them from all over the northwest (seriously people traveled from Portland to Seattle to get their hair cut by them), isn't measured on the quality of cut, but by a hand massage. Also, they wanted to pay them minimum wage for a year. WOW. What a disfunctional salon if I have ever have known one. A ship is definitely sinking.
- Pros: Don't know of any
- Cons: Don't know what they are doing
Elise...Lost now FOUND
by Nosqzs
If you have had Elise do you eye brows before, you're truly blessed. She is the best of the best and I am critical for good brows. I have been to Elise for at least 3 yrs and was heart broken when I was called and informed that she was no longer at Dosha. What was I going to do about these brows? Did I panic, no! All things happen for a reason and fate reunited us. Share my experience and need your prayers answered to end your search? You will find Elise at Valerium. No take a deep breath, smile and pick up the phone. She really is the best!!!
- Pros: Brows like you have never had them done before
- Cons: She is NO longer at Dosha.
What???
by true1980
As a friend of current and ex employees i have heard it all. This place is a dump and ran by horrible people. Just take a good look around and you will see. Ask an employee (management excluded they will lie for Dosha) and they will tell you the same. The only thing good left about this spa are the techs and they are treated like !@#$%. If you knew how Dosha truelly felt about clients $$$ and how they treat employees you would not visit this spa you would just feel bad for the employees (many single mothers) who are exploited. Last I heard the estheticians are pulling in a whopping $9.00-$9.50 hr and they are trying to cut those wages if they can't sell an impossible amount of product. Shame shame Dosha
- Pros: Techs and staff
- Cons: Everything else
Don't let him cut your hair!
by CSMobileUser
I made an appt.and was shown to my chair, by a stylist (if you want to call him that) who has enormous fish-like glasses. He informed me, as we were in the midst of cutting, that he cut hair to express his creative side. He did not particularily have a passion for it. Needless to say, he cut hair chin-length. It was uneven (longer on one side than the other) and I looked as if I had cut it w/ my eyes closed. They overcharged me on my credit card and had difficulty reversing the charge. Disapointed. Aveda/Dosha has become "cookie-cutter" styling salons. Sad actually.
terrible customer service
by jaywalkna
Made appointment 4 days in advance for a facial. Was using a gift certificate given to me for my birthday. Appointment was for 2:15 pm on a Saturday. At 12:50 pm, they left a message on my work phone to inform me that the aesthetician was sick and they had to cancel my appointment. Of course, I did not get the message before the appointment and showed up only to be told that my appointment had been canceled. Note that THEIR policy is 24 hours advance notice of cancellation--they didn't even give me 2 hours notice. They did offer to re-schedule the appointment for another day (this is hardly compensation for the time I wasted on Saturday) and a "VIP 10% discount." I explained that it was a gift certificate, so the discount did me no good. "You can use the credit to purchase products in our store." So, in effect, no compensation for having wasted a good part of my Saturday. Very unprofessional. I would never go there voluntarily, but I don't want to waste the gift certificate, so I guess I will try to re-schedule.
Dosha Salon Management/Owners and their Attorneys OUT OF CONTROL!!!
by Goodland
I had an appointment recently with the amazing "Delva" at Dosha Salon and Spa. Delva is simply the best haircutter I have ever found. She has an amazing ability to cut hair and I have never had a "bad haircut" by her. She is truly a gifted artist! Now, I did not get my haircut at my last appointment because Dosha Salon has introduced a "Consent and Release Agreement" which they are requiring ALL customers to sign EVERY TIME they receive services - even a haircut! This is truly outrageous. I refused to sign it and now I do not know who I am going to find to cut my hair. Are there other customers out there who feel the same way? Please post!
Charged the wrong amount and never voided the first charge
by serviskey
I am shocked how this place operates. Its just plane bad business. They chareged me the wrong amount and then took 20 min to figure out my right charge, said they would void the first one and now I have 2 large charges from Dosha. They crossed out the recipt with the wrong amount in front of me telling me that they would void it, it was my mistake to trust that they would actually do that. They actually sent me a copy of the recipt with a line thru it indicating it would be voided. Now I am fighting with them. This is one of those business that I just hopes goes out of business. I get to spend my time on there mistake. Did I mention the services were awful, this is not a spa, I would have been better off in a chair at the mall. Also the place was not sanitary.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Bad business they will do anything for a buck
Speak up!
by SpaCat08
As a former employee of Dosha, I'm appauled at these reviews. I understand that the people can be a little nose-in-the-air-ish, but that's what you're to expect walking into a high end salon. "cheezy" is not the word most use to describe Dosha Hawthorne's athmosphere. Its a small space that looks bigger than it is, with a little fire place, expensive wood siding, some tall mirrors to check out your style, while it could use some new carpet in the waiting area, it's very nice looking. If you don't believe me, CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE (Dosha(dot)org). If ever you've had a bad hairstyle at Dosha, you've obviously not spoken up about what you want, or called back to complain. All of their salon's have a 2 week redo policy - if you don't like it, COME BACK IN and they'll fix it for free. I was a client before I was an employee and I absolutly adore it. My stylist does exactly as I say, he always has great suggestions and everyone, myself included, loves my hair. If you don't like aveda product, bring your own. If you don't like the tea, bring some wine. Please don't be scared of these reviews. Bad news travels ten times faster than good news ever will. Please don't be afraid to try out a salon, if you hate it, never come back but don't knock it before you try it.
- Pros: Great staff, friendly technicians, lots to choose from, many convenient locations
- Cons: Parking is tricky.
