Good beer, terrible service, bad food

Went here for the first time awhile ago and have been meaning to write a review. Words cannot describe how upset I was with my experience. There is a difference between "relaxed" and "I don't care" and this place is the ladder. I'm sure it would be enjoyable to just drink good beer here w/friends on the patio, but I sat at the bar and overheard a girlfriend of the bartender talking about me and how they didn't care about helping me w/my order. The food here would be delicious if I were black out drunk and needed something to stop me from dry heaving, but don't plan on eating because they might bring you a meat patty w/ sauerkraut and tell you they ran out of buns. Overall, this is the worst service I have ever been given in town.

Favorite IPA, burger adn atmosphere in town.

I don't know what the guy that posted on 10/19/2008 was talking about. It could be that Amnesia is on Mississippi, not Milwaukee. Or it could be that their beer is great! Either way don't listen to him. Sounds like a guy who hates his life so he spends his time writing bad reviews for places that don't treat him like royalty.

Anyways......

This is my favorite place in Portland. It was the first Berger I had when I moved here and I have been going back for the past seven months. Their Copacetic IPA is by far my favorite IPA in Portland. The Desolation IPA is outstanding as well and many times my counterparts and I will debate over which one is better. Their other beers are also good and I was glad to hear that they have many beers brewing for the holidays. The outside patio is great and the inside is very cool as well. The atmosphere is very relaxed and happy. You order all food and drinks at the bar which I like, cause if you need a beer you can just go get one. They have one person grilling on a BBQ right next to the patio so all the food is grilled to perfection on the spot. You can imagine if 50 people ordered a hamburger that it might take one guy a little time to make them all. So sit back, relax and enjoy the beer you are drinking.

Amnesia - wish I had it after going there

The bartender got uppity and actually huffed and puffed when we couldn't decide what beers to get. We got three differet beers. ESB - tasteless, IPA - flat and tasteless, some other beer...stale, flat and tasteless. In beertown, Amnesia is going to have to step it up a bit. Being on Milwaukee and having a patio might be good enough for kids who don't know better but soon enough, they too will figure out that this place is mediocre.

This is a real grassroots brewery with arguably the best IPA in town!!

I went on a Friday night and it was very crowded..I arrived about 7pm all the outside tables were full..I was able to sit at the bar and order one of the finest IPA brews I have encountered..I then proceeded to order a burger and though the service was a little slow (remember they were completly packed) the result of the burger was phenomenal..I will go back srictly for the "BEER&BURGER"...That is the reason we go to Brewpubs isnt it?? As I was paying my tab I realized I could get a mason jar to go!! So I ordered two to go..I highly reccomend the IPA and the amnesia expierience along with a couple of mason jars to go.. If you enjoy good beer and conversation with a very diverse and freindly crowd Amnesia is the place..Dont forget!!

The best at what it does

I go out for drinks for two things, a good beer and a nice place to enjoy in and Amnesia is the best at both. All the beers that I have tried have been beyond good and the desolation IPA may be my favorite beer ever. The space is comfortable and relaxed in its simplicity, and on a sunny day in Portland there is nowhere else I would rather be than on their patio where Mississippi creates the atmosphere for you. The food is solid and made with quality ingredients like Oregon country beef, which makes the extra dollar worth it. I normally don't write reviews, but when I saw some of the posts that had been written about my favorite brewpub I had to respond. To those posters I would like to say 1. Amnesia is all about a comfortable place to sip a brew, and I don't want your rowdy, smelly kids ruining my post-work beer. 2. When you are located on one of the most appealing streets in Portland you don't need any more than, "a concrete slab with wooden bench tables all pushed together and covered with a tent" and I think the forty or so people I see out there every sunny day would agree with me. 3. Every single time I have gone the service has been friendly and as quick as is reasonable for how busy they are. If you aren't willing to stand in line for a couple of minutes to get the best beer in Portland, than go back to the Pearl, you don't deserve it. To sum up, Amnesia has the best IPAs in Portland, a comfortable atmosphere, and solid food. If you want kids, an overdone atmosphere, and are too lazy to get off your butt for a beer, go to a McMenamin's.

Why would you open neighborhood pub in a kid-friendly neighborhood and have it be dogs only? It doesn't make sense to me.

Keep Buying Beer, but Not Worth Trip to Brewery

Amnesia has one of my favorite IPA's of all time! Now with that said, I wanted to go to the brewery and feel the vibe of sitting on the patio enjoying the nice weather and drinking one of my favorites. I soon realized that the patio was a concrete slab with wooden bench tables all pushed together and covered with a tent. It made me immediately think I should have picked up a six pack of instead. No service was available outside and we had to go inside and stand in line at the make shift bar counter for a pitcher. We were hungry and saw the $8 Hamburger. Again I was wishing I would have bbq'ed at home instead. This is definately a brewery and no more. You can get some beer, that is if the have it available, in which most were sold out, and kick back on a patio slab under the tent, if that's your thing, or you can pick up this tasty beverage elsewhere and enjoy it where you please. In case you were wondering about the Hamburger, I wouldn't bother!

My new favoite for local brews

Wow, it looks like there are still brewpubs in Portland that aren't owned by Budweiser! And even more spectacular is the tastiness of the brews!!! I fell in love with this place when I shared a pitcher of a pale ale with buddies at Fire on the Mountain. I then sought them out and went to their warehouse/bar. I wish they had a better food menu, but I am willing to bet they are only suppling food because they are obligated to under law. Its is unfortunate more bars in town don't have any of their brews on tap. The only ones I know of are Fire on the Mountain and Horsebrass.

Worst Service of Portland Breweries

I've been to Amnesia a few times. Weekdays are ok at Amnesia, but on my last visit a on Saturday afternoon, my entire experience was lousy. Yeah, the beer's good, and yeah, these a good selection of beer, but what good is that when the service is so lousy?

After waiting in line 5 minutes (there is service only at the bar and when I went, there were only two servers), a male bartender took my order. But then someone came up to close out, and instead of getting the drinks I ordered, he helped the other customer. Right after the bartender took my order, a second bartender asked if I needed help. I said no, but after it was obvious that the first bartender wasn't returning with drinks any time soon, I asked the second bartender if he could get my drinks after all. I got attitude back. "That's why I asked."

We ordered two sausages and watched as everyone who walked in after us got food. After waiting in line another 5 minutes to check on the food order, found out the order screwed up. When the sausages showed up, they were not as ordered and were burned.

Had to wait 10 minutes in line if I wanted another beer. What good is good beer if it takes so long to get it?

Also seemed like the coolest cats got better service. Guess I need to get a tattoo, a vintage tee, and to stop washing my hair.

Bottom line: Food's lousy. Service is awful. Amnesia either needs to drop the food menu or hire more help. With dozens of full service breweries in Portland, I won't be going back to Amnesia.
