My worst restaurant experience yet...
by kvevoda
This place is awful, and I will never return. My husband and I went to Lemon Leaf on Wednesday night (01/14/09) after reading the positive reviews here on CitySearch. The interior is cozy and cute. We seated ourselves after standing in the doorway for a bit. The waitress appeared as we were heading to a table for two next to the window. There was enough time for us to take in the appetizer page before she brought us waters. I managed to ask for a thai iced tea while she hurried away. She brought the tea and turned to speed-walk away again, so my husband spoke up and attempted to order appetizers - She cut him off mid-sentence with a raised hand and a terse, unintelligible utterance. When she returned with a pad to write on after delivering some food to a neighboring table, we ordered the calamari and potstickers for appetizers, and duck curry and mussamun curry for our main courses. The potstickers were good, but didn't seem "fresh" - I would guess they had been previously frozen. The calamari was undercooked, unappetizing and honestly, bizarre. It was coated in a mushy orange-colored breading that I suppose was meant to be crispy. However, we were still optimistic at this point and eagerly awaited our curries. The duck curry was the biggest disappointment: the "duck," consisted of skin, bones, and cartilage that frankly tasted a bit off. The curry sauce itself was tasty; the sweetness and spice were just right. The vegetables were mediocre. The mussamun curry sauce was also quite good; however, the chicken meat was tough and the potatoes were mostly raw (as in, still cool and really crunchy). We also had problems with flies. Overall, the only edible items we were served were the potstickers, the rice and the thai iced tea. Although the meal was completely offensive, we decided not to complain - I don't think the waitress would have understood that we weren't angry at her, but rather, at the horrible chef(s). We paid and left a table full of uneaten food.
- Pros: Cute interior (minus the water-damaged floor), thai iced tea/potstickers (hard to mess those up)...
- Cons: Everything else.
Not very good
by linderini
I'm sorry to rate this local restaurant poorly but it honestly was not very tasty and the ambience was sorely lacking. There were many flies buzzing around inside, and this was during the middle of winter. The food was brought really fast but it was of mediocre quality and freshness. I ordered the Pad Thai thinking sticking to something basic would be OK, and it was very disappointing.
- Pros: food comes fast
- Cons: food doesn't taste great and there are flies buzzing around
One of Portland's Best
by JohnnyHazard
I could on and on why we order from here but suffice to say the flavors are not overbearing yet present, super spicy without losing any subtly and the staff is nice and very helpful with questions about the menu. We drive quite a ways a couple times a month to pick up our order and never hesitate to pick up the phone with menu in hand the next time.
Pros: Efficient, tasty without being "Americanized" Thai.
Cons: Not enough shrimp or fish sauce in HugeDisappointment's Papaya salad
@HugeDisappointment: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I heart people like you when I am in a public place. You people give me no end of entertainment. Keep up the grief!
Friendliest Thai place around
by Ambergreeneyezz
I absolutely love this restraunt. I have been eating there for a few years now. The staff is Very friendly, always makes my order as requested and does it in a timely manner. I eat in sometimes and the atmosphere is great (indoors or outdoors), I also order to go and it is always just as great. I highly recommend this place for a romantic date , friendly get together( they have space in the back for bigger get togethers) or a family night out.
I can't say enough good things about this restraunt or their staff... It is an absolute pleasure to eat there. Can't get enough of that friendly Thai atmosphere.
- Pros: Atmosphere, great staff, and coziness
- Cons: Lunch can be abit hectic during school days, The highschoolers across the street love this place!!
Huge Disappointment

I've ordered twice from this restaurant through Delivered Dish for business meetings. The first time the food was just "OK". It was edible but certainly was FAR from the best Thai food I'd ever had. I thought I'd give the place one more chance to make or break my opinion of them.
Unfortunately, they screwed up an order that was SO specific I can only imagine that their staff absolutely cannot read or simply do not care to work with their paying customers. I ordered SOM TOM, a papaya salad. Due to an allergy and a personal preference I ordered it vegan. Here is the EXACT order: "Papaya Salad (Som Tum) (#18) How spicy?: 4: HOT - NO FISH SAUCE OR SHRIMP. We'd like this made completely vegan. If that is not possible we'd like to be given the opportunity to order something else."
When I received my order it was not only crawling with shrimp, it smelled very strongly of fish sauce. Which is absolute B.S. considering just how specific my order was. I would have ordered something else if they had simply said "We wont do that" but they said absolutely nothing. I WILL NOT order from them EVER again. NEVER EVER. I order thousands of dollars worth of food every month for business meetings and they will never see another penny from me. It's just the principle of the matter, really. It was a blatant SLAPinTHEface of the customer and that is completely unacceptable.
- Cons: They are unwilling to cater to their paying customers preferences

De-Licous

My girlfriend and I visit here often. Its hardly ever crowded, is always amazingly delicious, inviting and friendly, ( and dare I say romantic ). Seriously the Paper Moon appetizer is highly, highly, highly, addictive. I could eat like twelve in a row. Their food is dead on accurate and scrumptious Thai cuisine that, contrary to popular belief, is highly needed in this town. Sure there are a lot of Thai restaurants in Portland, but trust me....We've found the best.
I would reccomend going there before they get vastly popular and therefore ruined.
- Pros: Paper Moon App, pa nang, everything
- Cons: too delicious , too amazing, too perfect
Great Ambiance & Service!
by pattison1
This is a fairly new Portland restaurant it's only been open for about 4-5 months. I went there for the first time today and was delighted. The furnishings are chic and colorful, the food is tasty (with large portions), and the service was unbeatable. From just looking at the outside of the building, I would have not expected such a well-done place inside. The photo on this review doesn't do it justice. It's easy to pass by this restaurant because it's located on busy Powell, but you really must stop in!
