Finally a good hair experience!

I had two previous hair disasters and was quite on edge about letting anyone near my hair again. But I found Lauren at Grace salon and couldn't be more excited! She listened to my concerns and answered any questions I had. I was shown color swatches which is always nice. She then took my dry lack luster blonde hair to a beautiful shiny brown and the cut was amazing too, I love it! Thank you Lauren for bringing my hair back to life!

great cut and color!...confessions of an at-home-boxed-color user...

lauren was not scared when i told her that the last time i colored my brown-black hair, i did it myself for $8.00! she calmly listened to my concerns and desires as i requested to add light brown highlights. i was shown color swatches (which i appreciated) and then lauren double checked her color concoction with boss/owner, thad grace (which was also appreciated). the color turned out great, and my cut was even more fantastic! what i loved most about my experience with lauren was her ability to listen, ask questions, and her genuine concern for the end result. I have dealt with my fair share of cocky and under-skilled stylists. i can honestly report that grace salon provides skilled results without any attitude. the front desk staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was inviting.

Awesome.. Open.. Modern.. Industrial Feel

Portland is lucky to have this Eastern Oregon graduate, Thad Grace, he is an expert in hair cutting and styling as well as having a highly trained staff. I would recommend that you plan 30-40 minutes to spend in relaxation in this enjoyable atmosphere. Please call ahead and make an appoitment to assure you recieve the proffesional staff member of your choice.

I like!

Very professional, but not intimidating. The staff are friendly. I feel confident seeing any of the stylists who are available at the time I can come in. They are all good! I am growing out my hair (after a terrible experience somewhere else) and they have helped me through the nearly year-and-half process. I am very happy with the results. I am trying to be good and book every 6 weeks, otherwise, I can be tempted to cut my own hair. After I had the bad haircut, I was like hey! I could do a better job, snip snip! The staff have been very tactful and kind about correcting my mistakes! The owner, is always there (although, I've never had my hair cut by him) and he seems to be an encouraging presence to the other stylists. I usually book when I can take the afternoon, because I've had experiences at almost every salon (and doctor's office) I've ever gone to where I had to wait and wait, sometimes an hour (at London Influence, for instance), but the wait has always been reasonable here. If I come v. early, they have gotten me in 15 minutes early. The latest they've run is 25 minutes. I plan for that, because that how it generally goes at any busy salon. On sunny weekends, my husband and kids play in the water at Jamison Square (which is a block away) while waiting for me. We always enjoy that!

• Pros: Well trained staff, nice atmosphere, good prices.
• Cons: Parking in the Pearl, although I've always lucked out and found it nearby.

Stylist was late

Last fall, I made an appointment at Grace Hair Salon for the ONE free hour I had ALL MONTH. I just wanted a simple cut - no color, nothing fancy. Right before my appointment (which was my first ever with the salon), the salon called and said the stylist was "running late" and wanted me to come in late. I simply could not do that, so I had to cancel. The receptionist acted like I was the one who had "inconvenienced" them by not accepting the later time. I work long hours on most days, so I could not reschedule.

I would have written this review back then, but I did not know there was a City Search page until today.

For me, promptness is essential; that is the whole point of making appointments. I understand that things happen, but when a stylist is late, the customer should not be made to feel guilty for canceling. It did not help any that I had to work up the courage to make that appointment in the first place, since I have had so many bad experiences with stylists that I hate to even go.

• Cons: Poor Service - make clients feel guilty when they cannot reschedule due to late stylist

It is our policy to call clients as soon as possible when we know that a stylist is running late. There are many reasons for running late. Often it's out of our control however we take pride that we stay on schedule most of the time. Our clients love the fact that we do call to let them know. If you feel that the front desk did not live up to your expectations I apologize and will discuss this in our next meeting. I appreciate the feed back.

Who's Your Dancer's hair stylist?

Our artists are very much in the public eye, and spend a lot of time in front of a camera or at special events. We've got a lot of money riding on consistently projecting a certain visual image - so when the situation calls for someone who can take hair that spends 12 hours a day in a ballerina bun and transform it into something beautiful and glamorous, we want the best. That's why we always send our dancers to Grace.

Joy = FABULOUS! Service = AMAZING!

I went to see Joy on 01.30.08 after reading numerous fabulous reviews, for a hair cut and color.

I was greeted with a genuine smile, a beverage was offered, my coat was hung up and although I arrived 15-20 mins early, I was seen quite quickly and did not wait more than 5 minutes.

Joy asked what I wanted and we discussed the pros and cons of my options. She was knowledgeable and ensured that I knew what I was getting.

I LOVE my hair cut! I have gotten so many compliments and feel like one hot vixen! I am disappointed with the color. I think Joy was as surprised as I was with the lack of color intensity. However, I chalk it up to the fact that hair is different and what works on one head may not work on another. I'm hoping to use it as a learning experience so when I go back, Joy will know what did and did not work.

I will DEFINITELY go back! And I highly recommend Joy, and Grace Salon, in general!

Fabulous experience, felt taken care of and listened to and very happy with the friendly service!

GRACE is Great!

My experience at Grace Salon has been fantastic! I go to Joy who has been the best hairdresser I've ever had for cuts and colors. In fact, I followed her to Grace from a salon near Lewis & Clark College. When you enter Grace Salon, it looks and feels industrial and cold. Bare bones decor. But, the people are professional and warm and did I say, Joy is the best! Wish they would add other services such as waxing and nails.
