terrible wax job
by emly
I've been here twice. Once was a couple of years ago, for a lower leg wax, and was a perfectly fine experience.
Then about six months ago I came in for a full leg wax. I'd been letting the hair grow for a while and was looking forward to smooth legs. I got an appointment on a Saturday, with someone who ended up being fairly new to the salon. This was a very painful wax--much, much worse than the previous time--and she did a haphazard job. I left with a significant amount of hair still on my legs and some wax that she didn't remove. My skin was red and irritated for many days--basically until the hair had grown back enough to make it time for shaving or a new wax. My boyfriend agreed that it was a waste of money... irritated skin, not smooth (long hairs remaining too!), etc.
I'm never going back to wax on, despite my first experience being good. This more recent experience was that bad. I'm leaving three stars because I would have given it rave reviews after the first time...

i have been getting waxed by someone for years in the ne neighborhood. it was never that great. i didn't know that until my friends and i were going to lunch at the 5th quad. we walked by wax on and decided to try it. jevon was super nice and squeezed us in an hour later. we ate our lunch, came back and got the BEST wax of our life. its been two weeks and still nothing! plus she is a block away from my house! thanks again jevon!! go see her on fridays at n. williams...
- Pros: in my hood!
- Cons: none
Love getting waxed at Wax On!
by thebeaver1
i have been getting my brows waxed and lashes tinted at Wax On's Burnside location for about a year. The spa is always playing great music; it's a fun, energenic place. All the estheticians are outgoing. They really put you at ease especially when getting my lashes tinted. It's such a weird experience because your eyes are closed for the majority of the service and all you want to do is open your eyes...but they never leave your side. They talk to you and keep you comfortable the whole time.
I just love them!!! Keely and Kristan are my faves however newcomber Denae is great too!
And I love their ads too! If I wasn't such a chicken, I would totally take advantage of those Brazilians specials..
I find the biggest downfall is the traffic on Burnside is getting "hairer" pardon the pun. It is so hard to cross the street and find parking.
- Pros: fun and upbeat. friendly staff.
- Cons: traffic on burnside
response to grh

This email is in response to "grh" and any current or potential customers.
Im disappointed to hear about this experience however I am glad that grh posted their review. Albeit a little unfavorable for Wax On, it provides an opportunity for the esthetician and I to review our policies and procedures and can be used as a learning experience.
I certainly cant say whether this particular esthetician was feeling busy or feeling overwhelmed that particular day however, it shouldnt matter. Every client should receive the best service possible, the type of service that Wax On is not only known for but has won awards for! If a customer has an experience that was not up to ours or their expectations, I prefer to personally hear about it. I want everyone to have the best experience, guaranteed, when they come to Wax On.
Again, I appreciate input. It is valuable to me. "grh" if you would like to contact me one of the best ways to reach me is via email at waxonspa1@yahoo(dot)com.
Thank you for your patronage and support!!!
A tramatic experience
by grh
Let me first start with this: I am not a complainer. I'm pretty easy to please. If someone gives me relatively close to what I'm paying for, I'm happy. I don't like to rock any proverbial boats and it takes a lot to get me upset enough that I will even consider a complaint. So I didn't particularly want to write this bad review, but my brazilian waxing experience at this salon was so bad that I really don't want it to happen to anyone else.
I thought that this place had promise when I entered - it looked clean, smelled good, and they had gotten me in with a same day appt. When I called to make the appt I made it clear that "things are pretty unkempt". No care had been paid to my delicates in quite a while and there was some serious cleaning up needing to be done. But when my esthatician saw the work ahead of her her eyes got wide as saucers and she shook her head, telling me that I had too much hair, that this was going to take a long time. Are you sure you've had a brazilian wax before? Maybe we just start out with a bikini wax? Now, I don't care who you are, if your face it 12 inches from my delicates, you had better be nice to me. I, like most women (I think?) am pretty sensitive when it comes to the critiquing of our private places.
And on the subject of sensitive. I know that waxing isn't exactly a relaxing experience, but I have never had one so painful. I nearly made her stop half way through because it was too much but in the interest of not being obsurdly lopsided I let her continue. She waxed places that, hairy though I was, I am quite sure hair does not and has never grown.
My esthatician was the only one working at the time, so any time that someone came into the salon she would stop what she was doing and go out to help customers, while I lay on the table and wait.
Sanitation wise, things were less than stellar. Gloves stayed on when she went to help customers, she only used one applicator stick to dip and dip and dip into the container of wax (gross!) and when I went to use the tube of antibiotic ointment that was lying on the counter after it was all over and I discovered that I was bleeding, there was a large hair lying across the applicator tip.
I have been waxed many times, bikini and brazilian and never in Portland, and have always left feeling clean and pretty and fresh. I left Wax On feeling manhandled and humiliated, with a seared burn from the wax in a place that should never have had wax on it in the first place.
Obviously some people have wonderful opinions of Wax On, as evidenced by the abundance of positive reviews. Maybe mine was a fluke, but I wouldn't wish an experience like mine on anyone. It was worse than awful, and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to waxing. Please tread carefully!
- Pros: good sale during March
- Cons: it's a pretty long list
Wax Wrong
by LS
Don't go to this place on a saturday afternoon. The club upstairs has music rehearsals that shake the whole building.
Asked for a specific shape for my eyebrow wax, the woman agreed, then gave me something different and explained why she didn't think what I asked for would work AFTER she did it her way. They don't look disastrous, but I don't think it's a flattering shape for me and it's not what I asked for. Not going back here.
- Pros: reasonably priced
- Cons: bad service, loud music

GO JEVON GO
by glyni5
I have to say that it's not very often that you can go to a place take your paties off and spread 'em and feel great about it. I have a sensitive area and I came out feelin' grat and soft as rose petals Jevon is the BEST!
Jevon is the best!
by ariche93
So I go in for my first wax, I'm a bit nervous but I hear its great. Wax On is quiet with great ambiance and I immediately feel good when I am there.
Jevon made me feel comfortable and her quick wit and friendly demeanor made me feel comfortable right away. The wax was easy, relatively painless and I loved the results!
Ask for Jevon!
- Pros: Great price, friendly staff, great wax!
- Cons: Still have to feel some pain....
must only be good at brazillians
by qupeer456
i got a regular bikini wax here and it was totally asymmetrical, it looked ridiculous!
She was so rushed that she had done one side at a significantly different angle making it look lopsided! I couldn't tell as much looking down at myself, but she should have been able to see it and should have fixed it right away- i'm never going there again!
