Morgan's Automotive

by bbmoyers at Citysearch

A small, customer friendly full-service automotive repair shop. You can relax and be assured your car will receive first class service and a detailed inspection. The owner, Tom Morgan, is the most patient and honest person I have ever met in the auto repair business, and he's totally committed to each and every customer's satisfaction. I live in Vancouver, WA, so it's a bit of a trip to bring my cars to Morgan's, but it's worth the drive. I know when I pick up the car, any problems will have been addressed and resolved. If there are additional recommended services, those will be explained in detail, but no pressure applied. Always quality work at a fair and honest price.

  • Pros: High quality work
  • Cons: very busy at times

Will not go anywhere else!!!!

by nwaav8r at Citysearch

I have used Morgans since I moved to the Portland area over nine years ago and have always been very happy with the customer service and repair work. I feel that I have found a shop that I can trust and know any problem I bring to Morgans will be fixed to my satisfaction everytime and at a very reasonable price.....and I am pretty meticulous on how I maintain my vehicles. The entire crew from Thomas and Jim to all the great mechanics go out of the way to make sure I am 100% satisfied with all my repairs. I KNOW I can trust these guys to maintain and fix my vehicles. They take the time to show me all the repairs they have done and even save the old parts, to show me what has gone wrong and why repairs were needed. I will continue to recommend Morgans to all my friends as I know they will always be in good hands with the GREAT mechanics at Morgans!!!

  • Pros: Customer service, Outstanding Mechanics, Competitive Price

the best. hands down.

by hergirlfriday at Citysearch

These guys are great!

After a bad experience with my former mechanic (classic story of being ripped off and lied to), I found Morgan Automotive and have been consistently happy with their service, both automotive and customer.

A prime example: on December 23rd, my boyfriend and I were driving back from Tualatin. The weather was horrid, the roads were worse, and somehow my driver's side rear mud flap caught on my chain, wrenching the flap over the tire and destroying the metal attachment bracket. We had to remove our chains and drive the remainder of scary way home. Since it was late-ish (around 7:30pm) and since I live fairly close to Morgan, I thought I'd just leave the car out front, drop my keys in the slot, and stop by again the following morning to see if they could fix it. But lo and behold!, Jim was still there and he ever so wonderfully donned his coat, grabbed some tools, and fixed the issue right there in the ice and snow while promising to order a new mud flap ASAP.

They're just fantastic. They don't lie, they don't take days to do simple repairs, and they're always professional.

  • Pros: customer service and experience
  • Cons: nothing

To repair your older vehicle; most any part in the US can be special ordered in 4 to 7 business days.

Older vehicles often require more than normal maintenance to fix correctly and warehouses typically don't inventory slow moving parts, we are not thrilled about it either but it's our job and we get it done.

auto repair

by ethf at Citysearch

My wife set off for Portland, Or., along with, oldest daughter, 32, and 3 grandchildren...2, 6, 7. A few weeks prior, here in So. Ca., we had to have some major work done to her 2001 CR-V. Valve job, spark plugs, fuel filter, timing belt, water pump, then, oxygen sensor. All seemed ok, until the 2nd day in Portland. The "check engine" light came back on. Youngest daughter, Bethany, who lives in Portland, did a "citysearch". Morgan's came up as highly rated. When you're the dad, the grandpa, 1100 miles away, what do you do? I mentioned that they take it to Morgan's. Upon initial inspection, they noticed that a major wiring harness was just "dangling", rubbing into the alternator, etc... They worked to repair it, finally deciding, that the wiring harness had to be replaced. It was determined that the prior repair shop, here in So. Ca., was negligent in plugging the harness back in, thereby, the harness rubbing against the alternator / belt. After all of this, Jim made it clear to us, that it'd be ok to drive the vehicle back to So. Ca. Since arriving back safe and sound in So. Ca., we've gotten in touch with the original repair shop....not too happy about all of this, but willing to make the repairs at no cost. Yesterday, Jim Burley, from the Portland Oregon repair shop, called my wife, here in So. Ca., just asking if she got home ok, and was everything alright. First rate service in my book. From the get-go, Morgan's would be the only place I took my vehicle.....if I live just a bit closer than 1100 miles away!! A few bucks more....maybe so, not sure, but the peace of mind is worth every penny. Thanks to everyone at Morgan's, especially Jim, who has been on top of it all the entire time. Ed...husband to Olga :o)

  • Pros: Everything was first rate.
  • Cons: none

Super-friendly and awesome!!

by KateSides at Citysearch

The transmission in my Trooper went out...yeah totally sucks....and in my research I found Morgan Automotive. I called and spoke with Bob who was so nice and even did some research for me. The long and short of it is that I am choosing to use someone else to repair my transmission, but Bob was completely honest with me on the price. How rare is that?! I would recommend this shop to anyone....honest service is hard to find.

  • Pros: Friendly, funny, honest

Great Service

by lukefitz at Citysearch

We had great service at Morgan. We went in with high oil pressure. After the usual diagnostic fee they checked the pressure and it turned out to be a faulty sender and the pressure was fine. They did not pressure me to repair it and said it would just read high on the gauge. They also have a 100 point or more thorough inspection that they do for a fair price. After the inspection they recommended a few things that I already knew about for maintenance. The Morgan guys suggested some of the repairs were more important than others. Some of it would be needed to be done soon for high mileage maintenance. I never felt pressured or that I was being ripped off. They repaired what I wanted and I thought was needed.

They gave us a ride home and offered to pick us up as well. I brought my Jeep in in the mornng and needed it that night because we were leaving the next day to go out of town. They accomadated the rush with no problem. My Jeep was ready at the end of the day and is still running great. We had great service and a fair price. We are new to town and are happy to find a good mechanic.

Not a ripoff, but no bargain either

by richmckee at Citysearch

If you want a no hassle experience for slightly more than the average shop, this is the place. If you want a bargain, or close to it, keep looking.

I had my fuel pump replaced on a chevy s10 for 1037 (repair only, diagnosis was 90). Other shops quoted the repair for 900 - 970.

The price of the pump was my only qualm. Morgan charged 660, while other places were charging 550 - 580 (only 360 on the internet). The filter was also 39 (15 on the internet). I would have gone elsewhere for the savings on parts, but the price and hassle of another tow truck changed my mind. Other than the higher price for parts, I was satisfied with my experience as a whole.

  • Pros: Thorough
  • Cons: Pricey

Great service, patient and helpful

by DaveBarn at Citysearch

I found Morgan using this website and took my truck in to get a noise checked out. Jim the manager was very friendly and helpful and took the time to explain what the problem was and even printed a picture to help explain what needed to be fixed. I was given a printed estimate and the work was completed in four hours which was a lot less time than I was expecting it to take. It's difficult to find mechanics who are willing to take the time and effort to satisfy, however Morgan was just that. I highly recommend this shop!

Honest, straightforward, right to the point.

by nogginthumper at Citysearch

I found Morgan Automotive with an internet search and saw that ninety-nine percent of the reviews on the shop were very good. So, I went to talk to them about a transmission problem with my truck. The mechanic that was going to be working on my truck was in the front office so I got to talk to him as well as Jim the service advisor. Both of them took the time to listen to my explanation of the problem. They were very knowledgeable of the issue and the direction they wanted to go to fix it. Unfortunately, I did not tell them that the truck had a diesel engine. Shortly after dropping the truck off I received a phone call from Jim saying that they were not that familiar with trucks that have diesel engines and they could not work on it because 1) they would be learning on my truck and time equals money/higher costs to me, and 2) they could not guarantee that they could fix my truck. I really appreciated his honesty and straightforwardness and the fact that there was no charge for anything! Jim even helped me to find a place to take my truck that specialized in Ford trucks of all kinds. Overall great experience!

  • Pros: Great service, honest, knowledgeable
  • Cons: Lack of more in-depth diesel knowledge

Although diesels are getting more popular, we pass on the diesels just to simplify our business enough that we can concentrate on regular repairs, we can still work on the brakes, suspension and other unrelated items.

You have to pay $185 for them to just look at it- before any work is done. You will be overcharged.

by kckaycie at Citysearch

I brought my car to them and told them that it was making a noise and that I was sure that it was the front brake pad censor. Also, the service engine light was on, and the computer at Jiffy Lube said it was the EGR valve. It was Friday afternoon, and they told me that they charge $185 for diagnosis.

At this point I should have followed my instincts and I should have asked for my keys, which they had already taken from me, back because that was too much for a diagnosis when I already told them what I wanted them to do. But it was Friday afternoon and they had already taken my keys. I thought that maybe it would be worth it in the end by making them really efficient in the actual work and reduce the labor cost.

On Monday they called and said that It would be $560 just to replace the front brake pads and replace the calibers. They also said that the EGR valve would be around another $600. So I went and got my car back from them and took it to Les Schwab who replaced my brake pads (granted it wasn't the special ceramic type) for $194 instead of the $560 Morgan wanted to charge me. I am currently researching EGR valves, which for my type of car cost for ALL the parts including a new gasket $140 and take 1 hour to replace. I am thinking this is going to cost me a lot less than $600.

So I ended up paying almost as much for Morgan to tell me what I already knew was wrong with my car ($185) than to replace my front brake pads and have it warranted for 3 years ($194) .

If you are not made of money, don't go here. They will overcharge you.

  • Pros: They were nice- definitely sales people.
  • Cons: They charged a LARGE diagnosis fee and tried to overcharge me. They are also closed on the weekends.

We are not going to replace front brake pads without inspecting the entire system, we also don?t replace emission control components based on a code without knowing what caused it to fail and what?s related that could affect the operation as welll as running the proper test to make sure it's fixed.

We do complete repairs using original equipment or high quality parts to avoid problems.

We charge enough to have competent people and equipment so we can do a good job , first time to our shop vehicles usually get a complete inspection so we know what's going on , Do It Your Self Customers with high mileage vehicles can be over whelmed sometimes but at least we all know the whole story.

We do good work and honor our warranty for 2 years or 24K miles,, with no paper work required, we just handle the few problems that we have.
