Savoy happy hour. Need one say more.
by meatandcheese
Savoy is the best late night happy hour in town: A great meal with awsome drinks and it never costs more than $24.00 before tip. The service is always great and the burgers are fantastic.
- Pros: good, cheap food late!
- Cons: I can't say no to cheese curds.
a pleasant evening
by monzi08
We decided to stay on the eastside for dinner last night and discovered Savoy! Our food came promptly and the service was excellent. We started out with the wedge salad which was amazing. The sweet onions that topped this salad are the best! I had the steak which was cooked to perfection my only complaint was that it was over seasoned slightly (salty.) The greens and mac n cheese were outstanding. This is a perfect dinner date-way to show someone a great night in Portland. I cant wait to go back and bring friends. P.s on sundays they have fried chicken on there special menu Bring it on!
Was my favorite restaurant in Portland - will never go back after the last instance of awful service.

I have been to Savoy many times, almost always enjoyed the food, recommended it often and made it a point to take visitors there. But the last few times I've been, the staff has been so rude and inattentive that I can't make any more excuses to return. Last night our waitress basically ignored us, and had no interest in checking to see if we needed drinks, or water for that matter. The real kicker was when we were ready to settle up. Our party of 7 split the bill across 3 credit cards, which a different server than our own picked up and said was fine, helpful even, then we get the bill brought back to us by another server, who without comment rudely throws the check on the table which he had scrawled a passive-aggressive circle around a note on the receipt requesting no more than two cards per party. After we had already over-tipped on bad service, this snarky action was the last straw. Portland has too many great restaurants with far superior service - spend your money somewhere that deserves it. The servers at Savoy obviously feel like they don't need to impress anyone but themselves.
- Pros: great food
- Cons: awful, condescending staff
Efficient no nonsense service with excellent food
by schminky
I make a point to eat at the Savoy while I'm in town. I like the dark, intimate atmosphere, the efficient, no nonsense staff and the food is always satisfying and tasty. I showed up at 7:15pm with no reservation and was able to take my pick of tables. I sat at the third table in, along the outside wall, facing the street window so that I could watch the rain and people coming in. I ordered a bottle of red wine (Chateau Les Amoureuses 2005), which was excellent. I started with a mushroom bruschetta, moved on to black cod & mussels, and finished with warm rhubarb/strawberry pie a la mode. The bruschetta was served without any special fanfare; sauteed mushrooms and onions on a slice of French bread on a bed of two fresh lettuce leaves. It was slight salty (to my taste) but the salt had a wonderful flavor that combined well with the wine. The cod & mussels, which sat in a buttery herb sauce, arrived in a timely manner. I removed all the mussels from their shells first so that the tender meat could bath in the sauce. The fish and mussels combination was delicious. Two crisp slices of garlic toast help me compose each bite. The rhubarb/strawberry pie had a crumble topping and delicate crust that was a perfect ending to the meal. The entire meal, including the bottle of wine cost $54 - not bad for a very satisfying dinner. When I arrived, most of the existing diners were pairs of women sharing a bottle of wine and an appetizer. One table began with two women and grew to six over the hour and a quarter I was there. The staff accommodated each newcomer easily, taking and delivering late orders without concern. Later, at another table, two men joined two women who had occupied the aisle seats. The guys literally shoved the women to wall seats, acting as if they were taking over the table. I remember thinking that these guys were cretins. All in all, it was a very satisfying evening. I highly recommend the Savoy.
Love the decor, and the food does match

I love cheesecurds. So...I find restaurants that serve them, and I track them down, and I sample. WOW! These are the best ever. Way to go! Besides that, I love the zuchinni, salads and veggie burger. I also like that if I order an appetizer or salad and a meal, I'm not too stuffed to enjoy my meal when it comes. I enjoy the open kitchen that doesn't make me smell like I was in a kitchen all night. Somehow, it's been designed right. If the service seems not up to some standard, try treating the wait staff with respect (a good trick for those of us who understand service) and they will definitely warm up and take care of you. All in all, I love this place and look forward to my return visits.
I always like it here
by havinfuninptown
I always have a good meal here and have visited no less than 15 times in the past two years. I like the menu and I love the Clinton cocktail. I always take guests here when they visit --- to rave reviews.
Never going back
by tappuhn
Portland isn't known for service, but the service here was laughable. Even if there was a good reason to seat a table with the same number in the party ahead of us (and right in front of our face), they had the chance to make up for it by at least taking our order quickly. Oh now, we finally had to flag someone down after waiting 10 minutes. Once ordered, it came pretty fast, I'll grant them that. But all told it was a an hour 45 minute experience for us - I couldn't wait to leave. Food was way overvalued.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Service, Value
Eat the cheese curds
by multnomahvillage
I used to go here all the time. The cheese curds, mac and cheese and rotating sides of cooked veggies are usually divine. Not that long ago, my husband and I went to Savoy on a Friday for dinner. I had the roast chicken, and when it came to the plate, I cut into it twice, and it was RAW on the inside to such an extent that it was about half pink. This all after our food took about 45 minutes to even come out, and my husband's burger was stone cold. They took the chicken off the bill, but were not very apologetic. In fact, the man who was acting as the host, was quite rude when I brought it to his attention. I will probaby go back, but probably just for cheese curds and cocktails. The bartenders here have always been fantastic. The atmosphere here is great, and the service is usually good (overall).
- Pros: Great cocktails
- Cons: See Review
Cooked Just Right
by notyeti
We've eaten at Savoy probably six times and never been disappointed. The menu doesn't seem to vary a lot, but there are specials and most of the items we have ordered have been cooked "just right". I miss the way they used to prepare their roasted chicken (crispy, no sauce), but it is still succulent. I also love the fact that I can order whatever sides I want with my meal. The menu is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is comfortable and homey, but still hip.
I actually dealt with that guy above.

On the "used to be my favorite" review:
I got drinks for that guy while he was waiting (and twitching, it seems.)
Just clearing things up: that guy above...who said everything was horrible...is crazy. A loon. His friends actually came in to apologize for him afterward. He yelled at me, and everyone else in the restaurant, and we did actually tell him it was going to be thirty minutes, and the flip-out came at about 20 minutes.
There are many other errors in the review, but he was a good customer, and so was his girlfriend/wife. So I won't be rough. I don't know what happened, but a screw got loose. Just wanted to clarify.
We do our best to be very clear about everything, and actually love our customers. Come in. You'll enjoy it.
- Pros: Lots
- Cons: not much.
