Missed Dearly!. In a town facinated with all things foodie, Apotheke offered PDX a truly unique experience. This place will be greatly missed. Not only was I treated with outstanding service, the servers were always very patient, friendly and knowledgeable, but there is really nothing else like it in town. Elaborate mixed drinks can be found all over town, but there was something so refreshing in the simplicity of Apotheke. Drinking was more than a pleasure it was also entertaining. I loved picking out flights of aperitifs and digestifs. I would normally pick one or two that I was curious about, and the server would pick a few drinks that would complement my selections. I'd been here several times, and I never once felt that the people were snobby, as one reviewer claims. I pray that they reopen! I'll be back if they do!  View Less View More

great spot, but it's gone!. Apotheka was so cool... but it is gone. I heard that they were going to open a new spot. Where did you go, Apotheka?

I heard it was good ... I guess just not good enough to remain in business .... My wife went here with some friends a while back ... said they crushed herbs and stuff into the drinks. But, alas ... they WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. Serves 'em right if they were as snobby as some of these reviewers lead us to believe.  View Less View More

um, what's the big deal?. It must be the yuppies from california and repressed, small-town hipsters that think this place is heaven. Who wants to eat over priced snack food while some egoist with a mac makes you go deaf with his "homemade" music? The snacks are what you'd probably find in your fridge late at night so skip this place unless you enjoy sterile white walls and people who think they are really cooler than you.  View Less View More

Great if you like drinking in an empty bar.... We went to Apotheke on a Friday night and it was deserted. Also the drink menu, while long, wasn't terribly exotic. Where was the Turkish Pepper? Or non-Aalborg Aquavit? Humph.  View Less View More

it makes me think of that rob thomas song, you know, with the white lights.... Apotheke is a beautiful white space, just upstairs from Andina. The staff is really knowledgeable about all of the wines, beers, and liquor and is happy to make suggestions. I love that they give you a syllubus with the menu, explaining their concept when you come in.

One of their beers is called the Orval, and while it doesn't taste like champagne, it reminds me of champagne.

They have great music and it is a nice space to spend an evening at. You should try it.  View Less

Eh. They have some really interesting booze. Beyond that, the bartender was rude when I asked how to pronounce some random swedish beer. One of those "you mean you don't know?" moments. Gee, sorry dude. The gentleman that brought our appetizers was less than polite when we inquired about some delicious cheese/honey/toast concoction they used to serve. Not entirely sure how he could justify being rude after receiving a compliment on the food we had liked so much last time, but ok. The question itself put him out. Very weird service.  View Less View More

Hipster nonsense, slacker service; decent food. Maybe reviewers who love APOTHEKE so much have no idea what a decent dining experience is? Like other RECENT posters, we waited and waited. And waited. Why is is it so hard for servers in PDX to do their jobs efficiently and appreciatively? What a waste of two hours. Why are a few good drinks, a couple of apps, a modern-cool setting and a smile so hard to find in the overly-hyped Rose City? Next time, for less than the $60 we spent, we'll go to Mother's or grab Burgerville Gardenburgers and a bottle of Grey Goose and chill at my just-as-swanky pad -sans the pretention and lack of attention. Hate to say it but Portland is so amateurish and provincial.  View Less View More

Pretty, but pretensious and slooooooow. My experience with the service was very similar to benstein's. I almost chewed my arm off waiting for the food, which tends to put a person in a foul mood. Then the portions were so incredibly small we had to go somewhere else and eat again. The bartender was nice. What was most striking is that this place refuses to mix any drinks whatsoever. They just pour booze in the glass and hand it to you at eight bucks and up. They say their goal is to get people to experience their liquors in their unadulterated state. They make the mistake of assuming everyone wants or needs their pedantry. Thanks anyway, I know what Aviation Gin tastes like by itself, I actually, really just like it better with an additional ingredient. The DJ was playing freaky minimalist techno and it was just too much. It's a neat looking place though.  View Less View More

TERRIBLE SLOW SERVICE as is typical in Portland. I've been here twice. Both times were beyond disappointing I took a date here on Valentine's day. Interior looks cool, vibe was nice. However, the space is fairly large, especially if one factor's in how stupid or cheap the owner(s)/managers are. On Valentine's Day, VALENTINE's DAY, this somewhat romantic spot had 1 staffer working the whole place. One staffer was the bartender, waiter, host and...DJ (I kid you not). In a place that was more than half empty when we arrived, it took 10 minutes to order two drinks and that only after I fetched the staffer from his perch at the bar.

Then, after delivering drinks the server/bartender/host/DJ turned around and left before we could order. Almost 20 minutes later, we finally got an order in but the food -a bowl of soup and pommes frites- didn't arrive for another half hour. So, to get two drinks and a couple of apps took almost an hour. We had plans so we had to leave before we could even finish our food. The icing in the cake? It took me another 10 minutes to hunt down the server/bartender/host/DJ to get the bill and ANOTHER TEN minutes to have it run through! And, of course, I had to return to retrieve my credit card which had never been returned by the obviously over-extended server/bartender/host/DJ.

Too bad. The food was quite good and might have been enjoyable had their been proper staffing and more attentive service. I'd only ever return if I had to.

Typical in Portland. Cut corners to save money and/or put more tip money in less staffers wallets per shift. Total BS. I say, vote with your feet and refuse to eat at places that don't respect you, your time and/or your money.  View Less
