We had a grad party to go to on friday and no time to really make anything, I looked up BBQ on thre net and I found Big Kahuna's BBQ, I called up and asked if I could oreder 5 racks of ribs to go and the gal on the phone said sure when do you want them, I said 5pm no problem she said. when I picked up the ribs they were hot and ready to eat. I asked for the sauce on the side and I ordered the spicy and mild. boy, were they the best ribs I have ever had, sad thing is I sould of kept a rack for my self for later, as they were the first thing to go at the table. Thanks Big Kahuna I told them I BBQed them my self you made my the hit of the party. We will be back to try the rest of your BBQ.
- Pros: Drive up window, calling ahead for order
- Cons: very busy place

Tried their BBQ chicken sandwich at the Spring Beer Fest, was not impressed

The food court at the Spring Beer Fest this past weekend was small. Only about 5 vendors. I finally settled on Big Kahuna, even though I'm not a huge BBQ fan. I recall two outsiders coming up to me and saying how great the food is. One particular guy said he was a BBQ judge and Big Kahuna was the best thing ever. So I settled on the chicken sandwich. To say I was unimpressed is a big understatement. First, it was very small. I got a small chicken breast on a small bun, no lettuce, pickles, nothing. There was a fair chunk of fat on it too. I expected that to be trimmed off. I was also expecting to find it well barbecued, but no such luck, it looked like they just threw it on the grille for a few minutes. I could have done a better job. It wasn't hot, just luke warm. First impression is everything. Not much flavor, didn't give me the impression of BBQ, and the portion was not worth it. I can say with no doubt in my mind, I will never go back.
- Pros: It was cheap
- Cons: Luke warm, did not get the impression of BBQ, little flavor, very small portion

I say, give a look for your self and you will see! just know this place is busy! if you have to, call your order ahead of time. Trust me I have been to many BBQ places and it somtimes takes for ever! Pulled Pork Sandwich is Fantastic!

We had our company lunch for 60 people catered by Big Kahuna, I am so glad that I found them on the internet! They were here right on time, set up and serving in no time. Food was hot, and our people got through the serving line quickly. We had pulled pork, beef, and sausage. Good sized portions, no one left hungry. I have been looking for good pulled pork for a long time, and I have found it! Tender and moist. And the BBQ sauce, spicy or mild, is served on the side, the spicy is very good, and has a good 'kick' to it. The potato salad was also very good. Everything was delicious, and I am anxious to take my family to their restaurant. I am hoping they will get their second location down in this area! Great Job, Big Kahuna!
- Pros: Great Food!
- Cons: Lombard is so far away!
Perhaps I should've come at lunchtime and ordered something else...

So, I've been eating a lot of teriyaki things lately, and I thought I'd give this place a try. I had teriyaki chicken with tropical fruit and some vegetables (the latter comes with cheese, but I was allowed to order them without, no problem). For some reason I had expected larger portions; it turned out to be a relatively poor value for $6.75. The sides especially seemed small, and were good enough but nothing fantastic (particularly the fruit, which came straight from a can).
More positively, they have a nice website, which offers great coupons--I ended up paying $5.25 for my meal, which seemed about right. The food was decent overall, and I'm sure my experience would've been different had I arrived earlier and ordered something hot off the bbq. The bathroom, also, is top notch, always a plus in my book.

Me and my girlfriend went into Big Kahuna's today to get some lunch, she had the Pork ribs with mango cole slaw and mild bbq sauce and I had the pulled pork sandwich with the cole slaw as well, let me tell you the pulled pork is the bomb with the spicy bbq sauce and my friend said she loved the ribs, it was tender and great flavor. the place was full we were luck to get a table. the sevice was great! and I understand the Hawaiian lady that works there teaches hula class after the restaurant closes. how fun! anyway, we will be back soon to try more things off the menu.
- Pros: Great Hawaiian BBQ, very clean bathroom!
- Cons: Needs more seating

Not sure why anyone would think Big Kahuna's pork is watered down? I went there yesterday for lunch and the place was packed! Big Kahuna himself was behind the line and a big guy with a aloha shirt was behind the till great customer service by the way! anyway, I ordered the pork sandwich with two sides potato salad and mango cole slaw, the potato salad was ok, but the mango cole slaw was great! crisp and sasy. I also ordered the spicy BBQ sauce on the side as I did not know how hot it might be, Let me tell you what, that sauce was the bomb! spicy but not to spicy. that guy did not know BBQ Kahuna, Don't pay no attention to his comments I am not local to St. John's but let me tell you I will be back for more real soon and I will tell all my friends about The BIG KAHUNA"S BBQ. Keep up the good Q.
- Pros: Great Q, Great service, Grear deal!
- Cons: need more location! Lake Oswego Maybe :)
Big Kahunas = Big Dissapointment

I have been to Big Kahunas twice and left both times very unimpressed. I have to start by saying I cannot say anything about the catering because I have only been to the restaurant. I hate to put down a business in my neighborhood (St. Johns) but I also feel the need to share my personal experience.
To start off with the lady who took my order seemed negative and was not helpful when I asked sincerly what dishes are the peoples favorite and which meats have won awards. Seemed to be annoyed at the questions.
The first time I got the pulled pork and it was sort of watery and luke warm and did not have much flavor, particularily lacking the smoked flavor. The beans that came with the meal tasted exactly like heinz beans out of a can (Not accusing anyone.... just comparing). As for the sauce it is not my preference but I appreciate that it is something different. My wife just got a couple sides (due to the fact that she is a semi vegetarian) and did not like her food.
Because I dont like to write off a place after one visit I went back with my buddy a month later. For the record the person serving me this time was better. I got the pork ribs and again I was not impressed. They were "falling off the bone" but the meat again lacked the smokey flavor or any flavor for that matter and again were kind of watery. My friend and I left disatisfied with nothing to show but a lighter wallet and a vow to not return to this BBQ restarurant. I love BBQ and I really wish this place lived up to its "award winning" reputation but I will have to wait for quality BBQ in St. Johns.
- Pros: Parking Lot, Original Concept, Location
- Cons: Food, Service
