WOW !!!! what a disappointment, the place was terrible the Menu had very few choices, they don't even have chips and Salsa. According to our waitress I ordered their signature dish "The Enchilada Dish", it was smothered in Sauce that was overwhelming to the actual food, My wife had the Tostada Salad we were both so hungry when we were done, that we went to another local restaurant to get a REAL Mexican dinner. Cafe Authenticas prices are way to high for what you get, the food and 2 Ice Teas + tip was $45 no way. We have eaten at many Mexican Restaurants, and this was by far the worst. Our fault we should have looked at the menu, and read the reviews here before we went in, felt like I wasted my money. Save your money. Ken
Pros: Overall Clean, and set up well, polite waitress
Cons: Not much food, and was not that good, no Chips and Salsa, PRICES ARE WAY TO HIGH.

I'm stumped. I have eatten alot of great Mexican food and maybe my expectations were too high when we went there. It was slow to get a table (and it wasn't real busy), no water refills (almost no water at all), very small portions, the food was fine (but I have had better elsewhere- alot of times), and yes it was overpriced for what we were fed. It wasn't that great and we were hungry when we left. One trip to Autentica Mexican Cuisine was enough for us.
Pros: Wow- nothing stood out
Cons: Overpriced, small portions, not very organized/slow

I've been going to Autentica since it opened and have had some excellent meals here. The service has always been substandard, but the delish food made it worth a visit. No longer. This place, or more likely the owner has gotten a huge ego due to some great reviews in the paper recently. Now the portions are smaller, the prices are bigger and the pre meal awesome tortillas and salsa are something you have to BUY. Our very nice server looked fearful when she went to ask the owner if we could have tortillas after we offered to buy them. We overheard him tell her that he could "make an exception this once." WTF? My friend got the black bean gorditas. The three silver dollar size black bean pockets were served warm with a cold red sauce, all for $12! The meat in the tacos and sopes is greasy and full of gristle. Good luck trying to get a refill on your soda or water. As a customer you will feel like you are putting the folks at Autentica out. This place is Not worth the trouble. Autentica, you are too big for your britches!!!!!
Pros: taste of food
Cons: portions, price, quality of meats, bad service, bad service

I was so hyped to try this place out because I went to their booth at "Taste of the Nation" and had an awesome octopus salad. Well, I was sadly disappointed. I went in for brunch with a friend and we had a horrible time. The food was OK (nothing to write home about) but our server was TERRIBLE! He just seemed like he really did not care about the customer at all. To top it off, after we were finished and ready to get out of htere, he left us sitting at our table for about fifteen minutes with dirty dishes and empty drinks sitting in front of us. And I could see him over at the bar eating and drinking a cocktail! WTF?? I have been in the food industry for too long to be forgiving about that sort of thing. It is one thing if you are in the weeds, but this dude was obviously just slacking off. I will never go back.
Pros: food is OK
Cons: Slack service

We have used CitySearch for several years and have never written a review. We were so disappointed in tonight's dinner we felt compelled to share our experience. Honestly, the only thing I can come up with to say that's good about this place, was the tortillas. They were tasty - but when we asked for some more, we were told "The tortilla lady is overwhelmed right now. We are all out". Where do I begin? Freezing cold inside. Margarita made with so much syrupy sweet & sour it was disgusting. Tried to serve me some nasty red wine floated on top of lime juice as a glass of Sangria. The only time I've ever had Mexican food I can honestly call bland - the pork tacos were gristly, the tortilla soup was flavorless, and the "Platillo de Mexicano" (2 enchiladas and a chile relleno) were completely boring. How do you make mole sauce and a chile relleno bland?? The service was absolutely horrid- waitress clearly did not know the menu, made no attempts to make things right, and was ungodly slow at every step of the dinner. We will definitely never return.
Pros: Good tortillas
Cons: Service, Food, Drinks

Autentica is the place to go if you want genuine, quality mexican. Tortilla soup as it should be, made individually to order. Where else can you get basketfuls of fresh, warm tortillas directly from la tortillera? Or enjoy the sight and smell of chorizo and cheese melted down into a tasty dip right in front of you? Try to snag a seat at the bar to watch the choreography in the kitchen. Weekend brunch gets busy, so go early. There are minor menu changes and addtitions every so often, to keep it interesting for regulars like me. Service can be a bit slow when every table in the place is taken and people are lined up outside, but the owner and head chef, Oswaldo, is on top of his game. I've seen him send food back to the kitchen for not meeting the high standards Autentica is known for.

I thought the food here was absolutely delicious! I had the Camarones which had just the right amount of garlic and spices. My friend had a large bowl of perfect pozole. We ordered a bottle of Tempranilla that was smooth and the perfect accompaniment to our meal. We didn't have any problem with bad service or cleanliness as other reviewers. Our server was very friendly and made wonderful suggestions for our meal and our wine.

Normally Authentica is excellent but I recently had lunch and ordered gorditas off the new menu. The dish consisted of three tiny warm tortillas stuffed with beans covered in a cold red sauce. We asked our server for tortillas 3 times and didn't get them until we asked the busser. The NEW menu includes smaller portions, higher prices and terrible service. While the place was packed for lunch the owner could be found chatting with staff at the bar.

The whole fish with red chiles lathered on it is so amazing! The tacos are small little mouthfuls, but packed with yummy flavor. Everyone else loved the tamales, I just don't think tamales are my favorite however. A must go!
Pros: Great food
Cons: none really

As the former brunch chef at Autentica, there are issues with this restaurant. Recently many people got sick from bad sanitation: a cook throwing up to start the day, lack of hand washing by most, watch your server, lack of kitchen space creates cross contamination ( prepped food and dirty dishes could be a new entree). mom came to work last week, she too was throwing up, yet still came to work. Oswaldo's response to me, non, about the party that got sick "they were old people" Oh yeah, my girlfriend also got sick that day, missed two days of work. The food, yes it is very good, Oswaldo is a skilled cook, it's a shame that the red & green mole come from a can. Did I mention that the boss and his wife take the cook's tips, viva Zapata. Recycle not in the world. A Macho attitute may help give you confidence, but this restaurant has failed to solve it's problems. Maybe the leader has a golden thone!!! Service is poor and hurried at best, notice the lack of good santation and touching of the face then your food. Watch your check, many times the server will over tip themshelves on large parties. 18% plus+++ Simple food cooked well, but please look behind the curtain.
Pros: food
Cons: service and santation
