I love this place! My stylist is Vania and she does a fabulous job. She spends a long time talking to me before my cut and color to make sure we have the same ideas in mind, and she has some great recommendations. Relax in their fun retro chairs, sip wine, and eat chocolates while reading Italian magazines. I got a coupon from their site that gives you a free bottle of shampoo AND conditioner with a cut and color - BIG BONUS! This is not a large salon full of apprentice stylists. You have the choice of two very talented, and well traveled, women. Prices are typical for this type of service. Ive been to many salons in my life - including a few others within walking distance of Pravda - Pravda is my fav! Vania will call you a couple of days after the service to see how you like it. Great customer service! I get compliments everywhere I go now, and have referred several people. In fact, a couple people at work call me the "great hair girl"! The appointment does take a rather long time for a cut and color (it was over 5 hours last time!!), but it was very worth it. Im a very busy working mom, so this is my big get-away from the house event! Plan enough time to shop on 21st Ave, and get some delicious food after your appointment to show off your gorgeous hair. There is a coffee shop downstairs, and little nail salon on the same floor. I make a day of it! Thanks! ~Cammy

Pros: Location, experience, wine, friendliness, hours of operation, specials

Cons: Parking. But just plan on walking a couple blocks and its no biggie

I have been going to see Vania for little over a year and absolutely LOVE her. I've never had anyone approach my hair the way that she does and am always satisfied with the results. On top of all that, the atmosphere is comfortable, the hospitality is wonderful, and the Vania and Gaby are genuinely nice women and not super-stuffy, too-hip for you types. I'm all about it and would recommend their services to anyone.

Pros: Great results, decent price, and customer satisfaction

Cons: parking could be better, but hey it's NW...

I have been going here for over a year and LOVE it!! Vania is my stylist and does an amazing job. She is a perfectionist and is not satisfied unless you are happy with your style. What is better that having a glass of wine and chocolates, complimentary, while getting your hair done? Getting a mani or peddi while you are waiting. Two steps away is a nail salon as well as a place to have a facial or massage. You must check it out, you will not be disappointed!!!

Pros: Everything is great!

Cons: Parking could be better.

This is a wonderful find! After getting the best hair cut of my life in San Fransisco I've been trying to find someone in the Portland area to match it...and at Pravda you can't go wrong. I looked at CitySearch to find salons that were suppose to give great short cuts and went through several before finding Pravda. Both Vania and Gabriela (Gabriela, thumbs up, you got it right, just like SF!) are fantastic. Because 23rd Street has so many great shops and interests, it's a bear to find parking, but worth the walk, just give yourself time so you're not late for your appointment!

Pros: Great cuts! Wonderful staff!

Cons: Parking in the area is DIFFICULT!!

Gabriela rocks the house! She took one look at my head and made suggestions that totally improved my hairstyle. She is fast, she is hip, and has given me top notch cuts that turn heads. Thank you Gabriela!

I have been coming to Pravda for about a year & have developed a great relationship with Vania. She is an AMAZING stylist and colorist. Although I am moving to Seattle, I will continue to make trips down to Portland because I don't want anyone else to touch my hair! In addition to being a great stylist, Vania is also a great hostess - she always offers snacks & treats, wine, etc. And after she washes your hair she gives an AWESOME neck/shoulder massage (seriously, it's really really good). To top it all off, she's a very sweet & thoughtful person (for example, when she came back from a recent trip to Europe she brought me some perfume from Bulgaria). Overall, I would highly recommend her services if you're considering Pravda salon!

I had been looking for a new hairdresser since moving to Portland about 4 1/2 years ago. I finally found someone who didn't make me look like I had just been to the butcher or was trying to imitate animal patterns with my hair coloring, in fact, he makes me look beautiful. I normally try and see how long I can go without washing my hair after our appointments because his styling is also rediculously amazing. If I can ever trick someone into marrying me, or if I decide I want that, he would style my hair for the wedding. If I leave Portland, I will fly or drive back simply to have Josh do my hair, he is that good. He is very good about figuring out what you want done to your hair, providing you with options, and then using his creative brilliance to make you look fabulous. I cannot recommend this man enough.

Pros: Josh Brown, best hair dresser ever.

Cons: Josh Brown only works 4 days a week. :(

Joshua is the best stylist I have ever had. I have very dark brown thick hair that he turns a shiny lovely platinum, and he cuts it so that it requires no styling (I am a lazy blond), but always looks fabulous! I trust Josh so much that the last time he did my hair, I told him to do whatever he wanted it with it. This was a first for me, as I am usually quite picky about my 'do! He did a fantastic job; not only am I extremely pleased with the results, but I have gotten tons of compliments.

Pros: skill, price, friendliness

Josh at Pravda has been doing my hair for several months, and I have to say that every time I seem to get exactly what I want, even though I don't know how to describe it to him to begin with. My hair is curly underneath and sorta straight on the top layers, and most hairdressers have been befuddled and sent me home with uneven, unflattering cuts. Josh knows exactly what to do, not to mention that he is a color genius. I couldn't be happier, and for the first time in my life I feel like I've got the hair thing handled. I couldn't recommend someone more!

Pros: Location is great, Josh Brown my favorite stylist!

Gabriela, the owner and a stylist at Pravda, is the top in hair styling in Portland. She combines European style and professionalism with American warmth and years of experience. What I loved about Pravda was that I didn't come away feeling like I'd just spent 2 hours making superficial smalltalk with a stranger. I left myself in Gabriela's hands and ended up with a great cut. When I asked what she thought about bangs (I have curly hair, so you'll understand that this is a risk...) we talked about the cut and she showed exactly how to care for and style them. I've gotten so many compliments on my haircut! Furthermore, she has an excellent line of products that don't have any chemical or artificial flowery smell. She shows you just how to use them, where and the amount. However, she's not at all pushy in her approach to selling them, which sets her apart from many salons, and they are indeed top of the line. Pravda Salon itself is cozy -I wouldn't say small- and with its two chairs it lends itself to a very convivial atmosphere that you can't get in the larger salons which push the number of people passing through its chairs rather than quality and time on good haircuts. Pravda is like a fine restaurant which cares as much about your experience and the artistry of the food rather than maximizing customers. I did a lot of research before I decided on Pravda for my next haircut. I asked around, walked in and spoke with stylists and read a lot of the reviews on Citysearch. Pravda Salon was everything its reviewers claimed it to be and more; now I recommend Gabriela to all my friends. Five stars +.

Pros: Everything

Cons: That I didn't find this place sooner!
