Coin Cottage truly understands the meaning of Customer Service

The Coin Cottage truly understands the meaning of Customer Service. My son and I are just beginning to collect currency and we had a GREAT experience at the Coin Cottage speaking with owner Paul and his son Phillip. We spent over an hour learning about the history of various notes and what has the most value. Paul gave us his business card and invited us to call him anytime with questions. And, they gave us some great prices to help us get started on our new collection!
- Pros: Friendly, Great Customer Service
- Cons: Not open until 11am
Tiny shop does tons of business
by pdxtennisnut
I've been looking for a coin shop where I feel comfortable enough to sell a decent sized coin collection I've inherited. Some have been dark and uninviting, some large but impersonal. More than one owner was downright rude.
Then I stumbled on the Coin Cottage in Multnomah Village. The shop was very small but bright and friendly. The two men who run it, Paul and Alvin, were welcoming and helpful. They always seem busy but but they still found time to spend an hour or so each time going over my collection. There was no guesswork or smoke and mirrors, they pay an agreed upon percentage of "greysheet" (which they are more than willing to show you) and go over every coin with you to set the grade on each. If you can't agree on the grade (and they are happy to show you the grading books) then you don't have to sell them that particular coin.
I am willing to concede that on a coin by coin basis you might possibly get more at another dealer but in the long run I think it would be hard to do better. In the end I sold them over 500 coins, kept a few, and walked away without any regrets or thoughts of being taken advantage of.
- Pros: Small, friendly place in Multnomah Village
- Cons: They can get quite busy, not a lot of display space.
