I am in Bakery Bar just about every day. People are nice and the quality of food and coffee is amazing. The service is a bit slower than your regular cafe or fast food because things are house mad from scratch. They level of effort put in to what they do is inspiring and should be praised. Obviously the person who posted both of these reviews has some issues to work out. Keep up the good work Bakery Bar!! Oh, did I mention that they also support the local artist scene? Good local business.
Pros: Go for the quality not the speed of fast food
Cons: Weekend food service hours are bit confusing

I was running errands nearby and I wanted to check out Bakery Bar for lunch and dessert. Before leaving home (which is about 20 miles away), I jumped online to double-check their hours as I knew it would be mid-afternoon before I got there for lunch. The hours posted on their website are 7am - 5pm. When I arrived at a few minutes past three, I was told, fairly rudely, that they close for lunch at three. When I asked if I could take their salad lunch Special to go ... more rudeness. So I bought a slice of poundcake from their case to stave my hunger while I went to look elsewhere for a quick lunch, and, what a poor choice! It was dry, mealy, and stale, stale, stale. So, I've got to say, what with misrepresenting their hours, rudeness when you walk in the door, and bakery product that should have been discarded two days ago, I've got no reason to be back - ever.
Pros: Location (easy to swing by and park)
Cons: Poor Service, Stale Product

I went here in search of a wedding cake. I called to make an appt for a tasting, and right off the bat the person on the other line was rude. I arrive for the tasting, only to find out that I'm tasting cupcakes. The cupcake flavors don't even correspond to the cakes that they make. So the tasting was a complete waste of time. I then try to order a cake and got nothing but attitude. Lady, I'm your customer and you are providing me a service, not the other way around! The cakes look pretty, but the attitude that the owner gave me on multiple occasions made me decide to buy my cake elsewhere.

Good cake/cupcakes. Nice place. Very cozy. Location is a bit out of the way, but worth stopping buy if you are in the area.

My husband and I went because I am determined to find a cozy coffee shop with delicious baked goods. I had the cheddar and scallion scone and a bourbon caramel latte and my hubby had their apple coffeecake. The scone was amazing - flaky and cheesy - not terribly "scone like" other than it's shape, but more like a fluffy biscuit. The apple coffeecake was deliciously spicy and moist. They brew Stumptown Coffee there, and that's a huge plus. Their caramel sauce is made with bourbon, and although it might sound strange, it's pretty darn spectacular. The atmosphere wasn't as warm and inviting as I would have liked. It's a get in, get your food and go kind of a place. Music was loud and service was pretty slow and unfriendly. I'm pretty sure no one smiled or said hello the entire time we were there. We did notice some flies around the food in the pastry case too... which was a little distracting. I like to pretend I didn't see them, but it was enough to make my husband not really want to go back. The place absolutely has potential... and darn good cheddar scallion scones. If you can ignore the flies and are okay with being seemingly ignored by the staff, then you should check it out.
Pros: Food and coffee are great
Cons: Parking, slow service, flies

I used Bakery Bar for my wedding cupcakes and truly feel they are the best in town. I have tried other cupcake specialty shops in Portland, but Jocelyn does an AWESOME job. The icing is totally unique. We also did a 2-person cake for our cake cutting, and a year after being frozen, it still tasted great. By far, the best bakery in town.
Pros: Good price, unique design, great flavor

This place is one of the only options for lunch in this part of downtown, so my office has been going there since it opened. The regular employees are very friendly and service is pretty consistent. I think overall their desserts are better than their food, except for the turkey chili which is exceptional! We used to call ahead everytime to see if it was chili day! A perfect lunch is a bowl of their chili with those little cheese crackers they give you - yum! I used to love this when I was pregnant! Their sandwiches are OK, and got even better after they started allowing customers to change things up a little to suit their tastes and not stick to the menu. You only get a pickle with your sandwich, and those pickles aren't very good and sometimes over the hill - mine usually ended up in the trash. No chips. The cupcakes are lovely! And they used to have whoopie pies that were outstanding, but I think they stopped making those - perhaps because people weren't buying them? Their prices are a little high for what you get, but hey, it's the only place nearby.
Pros: Desserts, turkey chili
Cons: Sandwiches are just OK
