tasty food

by kanino

i had the 3 cheese ravioli with fresh basil and chicken. the dish was somewhat unusual in that at bottom of the bowl the sauce had a more liquid consistency, as opposed to a thick creamy sauce. but this made for excellent dipping with the garlic bread that came with the entree. it was well worth the 11 or so dollars it cost.

we also had an order of fish and chips. the fish and chips were quite good- the fish was not overly battered and the oil was fresh. the included side order of slaw was a bit volumetrically challenged, but it did taste good.

the fresh brewed decaf coffee was ok. the beer was ok too.

service was friendly and helpful.

the atmosphere was good.

good delight to price ratio.

  • Pros: food was good, varied menu

Hidden Gem

by Glittrgrl6

We love this restaurant! It is one of those local hidden gems in a funky little neighborhood with great food, great ambience, and a great staff. The food is excellent, as vegetarians, we love to substitute a garden patty for any of the burger choices. We recently had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding held there and the owner was beyond accommodating and the staff was perfectly attentive. Everyone loved the food so much, the wine was flowing, and it was a mellow, wonderful place where people could actually talk and have a good time. It has a very laid-back Portland vibe with a history. We recommend it totally-for a bite to eat on a relaxing date night as well as the perfect venue for a group event. And the prices can't be beat.

We love Sckavone?s!

by rsammart

Great food, at amazing prices. Some of the high lights on the menu for us were the Bacon Cheddar Fries, Pork Loin Chop, and the Sirloin Steak. Oh and almost forgot about the incredible Baked Mac and Cheese. We think this place is a great value and a great piece of east side dinning out culture.

local eats, fried food heaven

by toofer555

I'll be honest, I live within spitting distance and I love anything close by, and I've only ever gotten the chicken strips, fish n chips and dee-wait for it-lightful milkshakes!! BUT this is truly a gem. Great friendly staff, nice menu that I've seen, but I am a die hard for my fried food. But seriously the milkshakes - real ice cream mmmh! OH- and they use environmentally-friendly biodegradable plastic take out bags, that earns 100 stars in my book! The meat isn't organic but they only use 100% veggie oil- non-hydrogenated. Check them out! I know I'll be back to check out the rest of the menu.

  • Pros: chiken strips, fish n chips, milkshakes
  • Cons: no free delivery service to my couch sigh..

Relaxed 30's atmosphere, great food

by erkreiss

I picked this place from citysearch reviews and it was spot on. Wonderful food. I had a turkey sandwich and my husband got fish and chips. Both were great, but the fish was the best either of us have had in a long time. I also tried their Vodka Italian Soda...which was very good. Wait staff kept coming by to check on us, but were not intrusive. I wish we lived closer, because it would be my neighborhood joint. Great for adults, but still kid-friendly. The only minus is that it was 95 degrees outside and their A/C wasn't working.

Neighborhood treasure

by mbucky

Love, love, love that I'm lucky enough to be so close to this place. The food has become much more consistent than when I first started frequenting, and I have always had an overall positive experience there. The pork loin is a wonderful entree. The meatloaf is like a dream! The brunch is totally radical with hearty corned beef hash as a personal favorite. The fish n chips are some of the best I've had, ever. The drinks are usually not worth buying, unless you figure out which waitress/bartender is the master. I'd pass otherwise. Oh, and did I mention that there are MILKSHAKES!!! Great variety, friendly service, and comfortable spacious booths make this neighborhood cafe/soda shop a total winner.

  • Pros: milkshakes, variety, friendly service, great space
  • Cons: not so good drinks, occasionally inconsistent

Real food - great neighborhood place

by onemorebeerplease

Honestly, people -- eat at Sckavone's. If you're like me, you're tired of over-hyped restaurants that empty your wallet without filling your stomach. Which is you'll love Sckavone's like I do. My wife and I have been going here regularly since they opened (we live 2 blocks away) and we have never been disappointed. Nothing fancy -- just normal food, deliciously prepared at a decent price. I'm a burger guy, and I think they have one of the best in town (1/2 pounder!).

  • Pros: good food and good portions; friendly waitresses w/ good taste in music
  • Cons: only 3 beers on tap; no deal on burgers at happy hour

Awesome food, feels like your "special" place

by bethapumpum

My boyfriend and I have eaten here several times recently alone as well as with our 3 yr old son, this place is as conducive to a date as it is a family dinner.

The menu is as clean and simple as the diner itself.

We have enjoyed sunday morning 11:00am breakfast with no wait whatsoever. Their coffee is excellent and the breakfast portions are absolutely perfect. For dinner my boyfriend had a fancier pasta while I enjoyed a sandwich both were wonderful.

Their mixed drinks are yummy and only $4 bucks at happy hour.

Good music is always playing and the wait staff is just the right amount of friendly. my only fear with this place is that once the word gets out it will become a pretentious hipster scene like so many other great diners around pdx.

  • Pros: easy going environment, yummy cocktails
  • Cons: food could be hotter

Great spot for meeting friends

by lyndakay

My husband and I met three other couples at Sckavone's on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the atmosphere and customer service. We ordered several items on the menu and we were all pleased with the food. The favorites included the meatloaf, fish & chips and salmon special. We look forward to returning.

Unique, fun, and very good

by dillicious

Don't let the past guide you, as this "neighborhood restaurant" is just that-casual, friendly, not too expensive and everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy this unpretentious spot. The bar is really cool because it's oval shape allows conversation between everyone at the bar, not just the blokes on either side of you. The wait staff is very nice, and the owner is extremely chatty and witty.

This isn't a "5-star" restaurant, so don't expect perfect everything every time. Be glad though that you won't have horrendous holdups when waiting in line to get in on a Sunday, or sitting down and waiting for your food.

Big - actually HUGE comfy booths, lots of windows, and high ceilings make this place roomy, but the decor makes it feel cozy as well. In my opinion the ambience is perfect...makes you want to have just one more beer or ice cream float!
