I try to go as often as I cn

This place is awesome. My wife and I usually get out of there completely full and $20 poorer. Get the chips and salsa. 3 tacos is around $9.00 and is enough food to fill you up and make you happy, very happy.
I was pretty amazed to see the few bad reviews for this place...some people are just needy or angry and there isn't a whole lot you can do for them.
- Pros: delicious, cheap
- Cons: sometimes a long line but it goes with the terriotry
Yummy, yummy, yummy

The fact that this is near my house makes it a bi-weekly stop for me. I can't get enough of it. The Brian's Bowl with grilled chicken is a must. And try the cucumber slices with guacamole. It's amazing. Yes, there's normally a line, but it's well worth the wait. Oh! I almost forgot... they do fresh juices that can be added to their margarita... DELICIOUS! The carrot-passion fruit is my favorite. :)
- Pros: best food
- Cons: long line
Not so much

The food was tasty but not worth the money. I honestly just felt duped. I prefer Super Torta or any taco truck around, especially Torres De Morelos on Powell. Don't buy into the Hawthorne Hype!
My entire meal was $19, and that is one drink, two tacos, and tip. The margarita was Fabulous, as it should have been for $8.50. That's why I give this place two stars.
- Pros: Great Margarita
- Cons: OVER priced
Yummy

Yummy food, everything looked and smelled great. I ordered chips and guac and black bean soup to go. All was delicious, just spicy enough and yum yum yummy. Also, coke in glass bottles from Mexico (with cane sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, more yum).
- Pros: black bean soup, chips and guac.
- Cons: busy, SLOW service, not particularly nice staff
horrible food

This is a review for the Hawthorne location. After the article in Food Weekly we decided to give it a try. Our first clue to not go should've been the fact that the article was more focused on the place trying to be Green instead of the food. It was horrible! To start off the place was very busy and we had to sit either outside (Brrr it's winter) or over by the bathrooms. We almost left without eating after we watched about 30 small flies crawl all over a box on the shelf above us. Hopefully this contained no food products. An employee grabbed us just in time to say a table was open in the main room if we wanted it. After squeezing my way in between another table (the place is very cramped) My food arrived, I had chicken tacos that had so much onion and cilantro on them you could not taste the chicken. I scraped most of it off to find a very very small portion of chicken. My husband had ceviche & carnitos tacos. He said the ceviche had no flavor at all but citrus (trust me he eats this quite often so he's aware of the need for lemon juice) the carnitos tacos had the same onion and cilantro and portion problem. The only things remotely edible at this place is the cheese quesadilla (if you don't like sour cream make sure to tell them it's covered in it) and the pomagranite margaritas. To top the whole thing off it's very pricey for mexican food $44 for 3 tacos, one quesadilla, 2 drinks and ceviche. Don't believe the hype about this place there is way better mexican food in portland like san fellipe (sp) in Sellwood- I'd take taco bell over this place any day.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!

The best Margaritas in town!!!!!!!!!! This is the only place I would order a margarita. They know how its done. The food is amazing as well. Hand made tortillas and a variety of fresh salsas. There is not one thing on the menu that is bad. This restaurant is always consistent which is a huge plus in my book. Check it out for the fun atmosphere and delicious food.
- Pros: Margaritas, Tortillas, chips, salsa, value
Thank God for good tacos in PNW
by mwfowler72
We live near the Hawthorne location and all I can say is best taco place we have been to in the Pacific Northwest (which is not saying anything). Moved from California to Washington and was too close to the wrong border for good "mexican" food. Wasn't expecting that to change when we moved to Portland, but was pleasantly surprised by Por Que No. The pescado taco is good but I love the pollo asado tacos (pollo verde is pretty good too). The guacamole has been consistently good and the people are really nice. They had a creamy roasted poblano hominy soup a few weeks ago that was killer. Tuesday nights are .50 off tacos and 1.00 off guac and chips.
- Pros: POLLO ASADO

Heard about this place, read the reviews re "best tacos", so we tried it yesterday. The tacos we ordered, pork and beef, were fresh and nice enough, but nothing to justify the hype. We also ordered a small simple salad, again fresh and good, and chips and salsa, very ordinary. The atmosphere was loud, cleanliness was below average, seating was uncomfortable unless you were a 1st grader who might actually fit into the pint size chairs and stools. This would not be the place to go out to dinner with a group as it was crowded and getting a table was "outwit, outsmart." They have little signs on the tables asking customers not to be seated until they order, which of course you don't see until you sit. I sat as my husband ordered and had this pointed out, but hey, por que no? This is no place I would go out of my way for, and will probably not bother returning.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: atmosphere, service, noise level
Most overrated taqueria in town!
by therealpricklypear
Why is this place so busy? The portions are tiny, the prices are high, and the service is appallingly slow. Its not a brand new place, but it's crusty with the grime of ages. The hipster-slacker workers lack any sense of urgency, and are too busy being cool to take your order properly. Who puts broccoli in the veggie mix for 'mexican' food, anyway? Is it for the sulfurous smell it adds when overcooked into a tamale? There is a generously stocked salsa and hot sauce bar, which you will need since everything they serve is so bland. Fermenting fresh pineapple doesn't enhance the fish tacos either, folks. Any given taco stand will provide better service and much better food for your time and money. You'll get to bus your own table either way.
