I went dancing at this place on Saturday night & bought a few drinks. My receipt was for $21, so when I see that I was charged double on my bank statement today for $42 I call them. The bartender who answers the phone, David, was very rude. He had an attitude and didn't care since he wasn't working that night and didn't want to give the phone to the manager since he was "busy." When I asked for his name he hung up on me. I called back and he still wouldn't say his name but finally gave the phone to the manager. Rafael, answered the phone and I don't know if he really was the manager but he was a lot more professional, although I doubt he will be reprimanding the bartender David for being so rude. Now I'm going to have to drive all the way back there today and make sure they fix the charges on my card since I don't believe that Rafael?s taking my information over the phone and saying that he will correct it after his meeting, is really going to happen. If you want to be charged incorrectly and then treated very rudely when you want it fixed this is the place to go. 9/29/08 Update

When I went back, Rafael was very nice & refunded me the extra $. David had given himself a fat $20 tip. Guess he thought he could charge me xtra & I wouldn?t notice. Never went there again & had no intention of doing so except recently the co. I started at has a party there. David is bartending, when he sees? me he very loudly & rudely says something to the extent of ?you?re not allowed here, blah, blah, blah? in front of a bunch of ppl, then won?t serve me a drink so I just have to order from the cocktail waitress. He comes over later & complains about my city search review saying I ?can?t do stuff like that, etc?. Well David, actually, I can, if you don?t want a bad review then perhaps you should learn how to provide excellent customer svc. & not try to rip off your customers then treat them very rudely when they want things corrected.

We celebrated my friend's 26th birthday at the Blue Dragonfly. We were looking for a fun, hip place with a nice dance floor and this place provided that. The downstairs was especially fun for dancing and having a good time. I did however try to request a song for my friend's birthday and the DJ was very rude about it. I asked him to play a song and he snapped at me saying it was a "90's themed night". I wasn't aware, so on the spot I asked him to play "I Like Big Butts", a 90's classic. Instead of playing the song the DJ made fun of me saying, "Sir Mix A lot? Really? Oh yeah...THAT'S original," and he never actually played the song. If it's going to be a 90's theme, I'd think that song would be okay. Another time my friend approached the DJ and told him it was her birthday to which he replied, "So?" I thought it was particularly uncalled for. We were just trying to have a good time. However, despite the rude DJ, the bartender downstairs was amazing. He payed close attention to us and we always got amazing service. He was attentive, funny and made a great drink. The vibe of the place was energetic and urban, which was just what we were looking for. The patio was also a great space to sit outside and get some fresh air. Overall we had a great time and I'm happy there's a place like this on the east side. Be cautious of the DJ though.

  • Pros: large dance floor, outside patio, atmosphere
  • Cons: rude DJ

I went recently to Blue Dragonfly with a coworker since it is close to my house and found a spot that will be a perfect after work spot for going out with friends. I sat in the bar, so I don't know about the rest of the place, but the bar menu had great stuff. The crab cakes are delish! The drinks were the yummiest, though. The service was quick and polite. I'll bring more friends next time.

  • Pros: Easy to park location. Not too busy.
  • Cons: Powell may be out of the way for some.

I recently attended a birthday party at the blue dragonfly. It was awful. It was cold. The place was filthy & smelled like a wet dog. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, & when we informed our server they did nothing about it. They were out of half the things on the menu. I had a tasty burger, but I think it gave me E.D. I had to take the next day off from work. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, but everything else sucked. Are these guys for real? My friends & I thought it was a front for something.

  • Pros: Lovely interior
  • Cons: Food (ED), filthiness, Ladies must drip dry.....

Wow. I haven?t been this disappointed since this country voted our current idiot president into office for a second term. I had vowed never to go back the last time I was there a few months ago but was dragged back. Last time we were the only people downstairs early on a Friday night until the DJ and his friend came downstairs. He decided to blast his music to impress his friend to the point we couldn?t hear ourselves talk. This last Saturday outdid that without doubt. Waiting for 45 minutes to get your order in I might understand. Waiting an hour for your food to get there and it?s cold - unacceptable. Forgetting one of the orders in the party and hurriedly trying to fill the order only to make the wrong thing and make it poorly ? very unacceptable. Charging for the original item ordered ? way out of line. To top it all off, our beers were served in plastic Budweiser cups and our waters (when we finally got them) were in pint glasses (WTF?). I only expect to pay $4 for a bear in a plastic cup if I?m at the game.

The food ? terrible and cold.

The staff ? incompetent and arrogant.

The parking ? impossible.

The only reason to suffer this hell is if you are an arrogant blowhard who wishes to impress equally arrogant and shallow blowhards with the fact that you chilled at the BDF after the show. There are no redeeming qualities in this place. I believe a piece of my soul died from the experience.

  • Pros: You can eat Osterich burgers
  • Cons: Everything else, it will devour part of your soul just walking in.

I've been to this establishment four times. The first time I was not very impressed but decided not to write it off. The second and third times were just fine, the food was good, the service was good it was a pleasant experience; but after this last Saturday's experience I will never go to the Blue Dragonfly ever again. There were five in our party. We sat at our table for over a half an hour before we got any service. Our drinks came in plastic Budweiser cups. Once we ordered we waited an additional 45 - 1 hour to get our food. And once we got it half of the group had cold food.

They forgot one person in our party entirely and he didn't get his salad at all. He ordered a Dragon Salad and they brought him a Ceaser AFTER he had already reminded them he hadn't gotten his food yet!

I ordered the chicken sandwich. It came on (what looked like) wonder bread. It was dry and cold. The chicken STRIPS on the sandwich were something you'd see on a McDonalds salad.

I've had a sour stomach ever since I ate there four days ago.

I paid $8 for a cold, terrible tasting, chicken sandwich and $4 for a beer in a plastic cup and I had to wait almost two hours for the entire meal to be over.

No one in the party I was with will ever go there again, and I suggest avoiding this place if you can. It's unfortunate really, it's in a perfect location close to the Aladdin and Vino Vixens. Too bad it's terrible.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: everything else

I made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a birthday party. When our group arrived there was no host to seat us. When we tracked down a bartender to help us they found the reservation book with our name, date, and time, but we were told that they did not have any room for us. No table was reserved for us upstairs or down. When I gave the name of the person who took our reservations he came to us and said they don't take reservations on event nights, although our names were in their book. Then the guy who screwed up our reservations completely ignored our group. No apology, no trying to accommodate us, nothing. We ended up all on our cell phones scrambling to find a place that would take 12 people on a saturday night. We found typhoon on Broadway, which I would recommend! Blue Dragonfly looks nothing like the pictures on their website. The place is a dump with a rude staff! Nothing upscale about it!

  • Pros: got in some excercise walking three blocks from the only parking spot on the street
  • Cons: rude and incompetent staff. a complete dump. website is misleading

When I have a bad experience like I did at Blue Dragonfly, and I read so many positive reviews, I can't help but wonder if the staff and their friends are populating the database with grand reviews in efforts to drum up business.

Last night I waited 40 minutes to be served a chicken breast sandwich that arrived on wimpy white bread (read "Wonder Bread"). It didn't help that the chicken was already cut up, so that on the very first pick-up, the sandwich literally fell apart in my hands, so I ate the rest (what I could satisfactorily consume) with my fork.

On the side were served some undercooked, bland french fries.

The staff was also busy running around like the place was having its grand opening and they hadn't quite found their rhythm.

All in all, I thought it was a mess.

  • Pros: Decent decor
  • Cons: Slow service & poor food quality

I went there last night for a wedding proposal dinner and the restaurant is a total trainwreck. The bartenders did not know their drinks and were quite rude. The calamari was burnt, bland and had too much batter. The burgers were overrated, you are better off going across the street to Jack 'N the Box for 1/3 of the price. It seemed like the restaurant was trying too hard to be a high-class restaurant and they are far from it.

The parking situation was a nightmare, I had to walk two blocks in the pouring rain and when I got into the restaurant my hair and makeup was all messed up. I also did not feel safe walking alone on that dark street. And to make matters worse, my Acura TL was broken into.

All I know is go to this restaurant at your own risk!!!

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Everything

We had our Christmas party here on December 8th. I cant begin to tell you how wonderful we were treated! The night started with the DJ playing tunes a 7:00 pm, great way to start a party for hairstylists since we like to dance. I ordered 8 different appetizers for the party, all were very good. Anything we wanted, we got. I would highly recommend Blue Dragonfly for your next party, or just stop by for dinner.

  • Pros: Wonderful food, great atmosphere
  • Cons: n/a
