The owner gets obnoxiously drunk, curses and insults his clients. Has been shut down for extended periods of time for liquor violations. Not a classy act for Portland. Should be boycotted.

The WORST bar in Portland!

On Saturday, December 13, 2008 I went to the District with six of my friends. We had been there two nights earlier because one of our friends knows the owner and DJ. About 5 minutes after getting there one of my friends was thrown out by the owner for no apparent reason. I had met the owner, Peter, two nights before and decided to see what had happened. He was sitting next to one of the guys in our group at the bar. Before I could say anything to Peter he looked at me and snarled; "You are a fu**ing Bi**h!" I said "excuse me?" and he said, "Get out of my bar you fu**ing bi**h!" I walked out and turned around to see almost all of my group was also kicked out. We had paid for our drinks but hadn't even had the chance to drink them. (no refund was given) I see my one remaining friend talking to Peter at the bar. Peter than came outside and said to me, "you cannot come into my bar untill you lose 10 pounds!" I again said excuse me and he said, "Only maybe I let you in if you lose 10 pounds." Obviously we all left and will never come back again. This place should be permanently shutdown. I know I will never be back and neither will ANY of my friends.

Great drinks, AWFUL service!

I will never go back regardless of how fantastic the drinks were. The service was inexcusable. Saturday night and there is only ONE server?! Not to mention she wasn't even polite!

It was ridiculous, we came in early and still got ignored for a good 15 minutes, finally she took our orders after an insincere apology for the wait and we waited another 15 minutes or so to get them. We were actually going to get another round of drinks but on a different card so we asked to close out and for her to bring us another round. Half an hour later we still had no check, no drinks and no service! Finally we got a bus boy to ask her to bring us our check and forget the next round, we were not going to put up with this. We finally get our check...with no pen to sign with. Needless to say we weren't about to wait another half hour for a pen so we left.

They lost customers, tips and revenue. I would have sympathized had she even seemed remotely apologetic but she barely said a word to us. Not the type of service you expect from an establishment like this. Awful! I do not reccomend this to anyone. This was a sorry excuse for service and they should be ashamed.

Should be on reality show!

This place will be better off being a top reality show, then a bar. Weird, I mean weird place! There are plenty of other places to go!

A nicely decorated closet

I went to District on a Friday night to meet up with some friends. The place was SO small that I barely had room to walk through the front door, let alone to sit. I stood by the bar for about 10 minutes, waiting to be acknowledged by the "holier than thou" staff. After I was completely ignored, I turned around and walked out. I would encourage everyone to avoid this place, unless they want to reconnect with their old fraternity brothers (who filled the place to capacity).

• Cons: Service, clientelle

Didn't really make me crave going back..

Well...I and a couple of my friends decided to try this place out...something new and love lounges...looking to mingle and chill. When we got there, I gotta say, the decor is absolutely marvelous! These guys have style...but the place is sooo freakin tiny!!!!! Not really enough seating for a "lounge" so to say, but because of such limited space more than anything. Music was great :) something new, the dj rocked the night...but the drinks were super weak :( I gotta tell you guys this...this is was made my night really bad. I and my girls ordered a Flaming Dr Pepper and the bartender completely messed it up making it taste like garbage, we almost threw up!!! He used I think a Pale Ale beer!!! it was so nasty :( and he didn't even put enough beer in the glass so when we dropped the shots (as low as we could get them into the glass safely w/o burning ourselves) the drink splattered all over us! You shoulda seen the looks on our faces when we chugged that down.

Consistently a Good Time

I love their 'district cocktails'...have them every time I go there. I'd say I've been stopping in there once or twice a month for about half a year now, and I always have a good time. Sure, there's been times when its busy and it takes a few minutes to get a drink, but I LIKE to be somewhere that's actually got customers...call me crazy, but it's just not a Friday/Saturday night if it's not hopping :) Oh yeah, been there on a Sunday too, love that they've got happy hour all day! Had the food a few times and it's been pretty good for dressed up bar food, but I'm definitely there for drinks most of the time! The hot bartenders behind the bar are a plus for eye candy. I'm just glad that thankfully most of the poser scene seems to stay next door at Vault!

• Pros: Great atmosphere, yummy drinks, yummy bartenders :)
• Cons: Parking in the Pearl...need I say more?

Never served.

My friends and I were out on Friday night and decided to get a drink after dinner. We stood at the bar for what was 20 minutes. It was noticeably busy and we can understand that. What I don't understand is a bartender who walks up to us, we order, and then he walks away, goes to the back and never comes out. The manager was too busy kissing ladies hands behind the bar to either notice or care. I have managed restaurants in this city and abroad and this is completely unacceptable. I find it hard to understand why people continue to go to these places where, while it is popular, you continue to get bad service. The place is beautiful and has a lot of promise but please, lets set the standard and not lower the bar.

giving the Pearl a bad name

Ordered a drink made with Maker's Mark [top shelf]. Recieved a drink made with Seagram's 7 [cheap]. Confronted bartender about it - he said they were out of Maker's. Later on watched them open two bottles of the booze they "ran out of"...

Didn't see a single drink recieve a legal measure.

High rent and original paintings are being made up for by underhanded buisness practice.

Bad service

Good people.... bad service! The waitress was not a smart person at all! She kept messing up our orders and didn't care about pushing us down against a window... to fit a group that was surely too big to fit in the area. I had people trying to basically push me off of my chair.... If you order a drink and you have a tab with a waitress... don't even try, you have to order through the waitress??? Give me a break! I don't have an extra 20min to wait on her.... Heads up....
