oh, really!

I want to warn anyone who reads this...DO NOT use Sweet Masterpiece to cater your wedding. My son & daughter-in-law made the mistake of trusting this establishment to cater their wedding. They were extremely late, which threw the whole wedding reception off. When the food finally did come, there wasn't enough for the guests who stuck around & waited for hours on end for the food to arrive. To top it off, the quality was very, very poor. We could have done better with Costco. Beware, the owner of Sweet Masterpiece talks a good game but definitely doesn't deliver. She basically ruined the wedding.
- Pros: chocolates are good
- Cons: everything else is very poor
Phenomenal, Delicious, Heavenly

I just moved from Atlanta, GA recently and stumbled upon this place as I was walking around the Pearl District with my finance. We gave it a whirl and it ended up being one of the best Portland dessert experiences EVER! The owners of the restaurant are unbelievably hospitable and are there every time I've been there. The lady who owns the place started making chocolate at home from scratch and decided that she wanted to make a fulltime job out of it. Nevertheless, she has an exceptional taste for chocolate. The coffee's amazing; have to try their Masterpiece Mocha. The prices for the coffee are comparable to Starbucks. If you want great tasting desserts, take a peek at their dessert cabinets and decide from there. I initially decided on a dessert from the menu and it was unbelievable but ALL the desserts there are just out of this world. You can taste the quality in this lady's craftsmanship. My complaint about Portland was always that they didn't have enough dessert/coffee places and I can say that I will finally stop complaining. Ohh, one more thing, they have TRUFFLES!! OMG, how amazing is that!
- Pros: The chocolate
- Cons: The timeliness and cleanliness needs a little work

Let me break it down like this: tonight my friend and I went there like we do almost every Friday night..We were looking at the truffles/confections section and the owner blew our minds. She described what we were looking at with such patience and attention to make sure we grasped the concept of the different flavors. We ended up getting a hazelnut dark chocolate fondue with a side of bacon. Yes. Bacon. She wanted us to have the best experience with what we were eating/drinking. When we first bit into the exquisite bacon with the equally delicious fondue, it was such heaven we wanted to cry. Seriously. I told her so and she said that not enough people put love into their food and they @ sweet masterpiece want to inspire people to enjoy their food again, not eat out of a box, etc. However you choose to nourish yourself, go to S.M. at least once in your life. It's soul food. Made with a whole lot of love.
Decadent delights...delightful owner

I found this place on citysearch and decided to take my friend here to have coffee tonight. What a great place! Their desserts are tantalising.....very good matchto Papa Haydns' creations. Maybe 1-2 dollars more pricey but the experience is worth it. The Marble Mocha coffee is almost perfect..right blend of sugar, caramel and coffee. I tried the triple chocolate cheesecake while my friend had the chocolate pudding+icecream. Great choices. The employee behind the counter was friendly and polite. One of the owners was kind enough to attend to our table personally. She was very polite and there is no doubt that I'll recommend this place for dessert, coffee or just a quick dash to grab chocolates for someone special!
- Pros: lots and lots of variety
- Cons: tables were spaced too closely, main door needs to be tightly shut all the time

Deffinatly the "Pearl of The Pearl", a must attend for anyone in portland, if you need anything from a romantic date to a simple cup of coffee. I was wondering arround the pearl district one night and stubled upon this quaint yet refined establishment, i decided to treat myself to a double espresso, a piece of White Chocolate Carrot cake, and some of their vegan truffles for the road, and if you can't tell already... i was blown away. The espresso, micro-roasted in town, as the strapping young barista told me, was like a beacon of hope and promice, that the coffee industry is shaping up, or at least that this cafe is. the carrot cake was better than words can describe, and the truffles for the road put a spring in my step as i snaked on them walking back to the street car, who would have thought a dairy free truffle that actually tastes good, nothing shorter than genius. Anyway, to all in Portland, GO TO SWEET MASTERPIECE, good coffee, good sweets, good art on the walls, friendly and fun staff, and i even saw a sign saying that they have sandwitches for lunch! SWEET!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: I didn't spend enought time there
Weak on presentation
by dncrbyn
I love the chocolates here. I wish the young staff would treat these chocolates with as much respect as they deserve. I hate seeing beautiful, artisan chocolates carelessly put in plastic bags. I bought several yesterday for my mom, and by the time I got out to the car, they looked like an awful mess due to the way they were placed in the bag. I wish the staff would either ask if the chocolates will be gifts, or treat each order like it is one. I had to take the chocolates out and repackage them myself so they looked presentable.
Presentation aside, please go to this place. These chocolates are absolutely wonderful and unusual!
- Pros: delicious chocolates
- Cons: poor packaging
Friendly service, chocolate and wine!
by darksyren
I enjoy this little cafe for several reasons. Firstly, this is a great place to learn about and try different kinds of chocolates and desserts. Secondly, the staff is ALWAYS friendly, attentive and eager to answer questions. Third, they are big on using organic/local/the freshest ingredients possible. Last time I visited I had the strawberry shortcake on a hazelnut biscuit. Sooo good. This is a great date spot and also a great place for a single gal to sit, read a book and have some chocolate and wine.
- Pros: Friendly staff, variety, fresh and local ingredients
- Cons: No wifi
A sweet find

We stumbled onto this little shop not long after they opened and have been back many times. Their desserts are exquisite, with interesting pairings of flavors. And the staff is great. They're always willing to answer questions and make us feel at home. We'll be back again and again!
