Great for brunch, but Dinner service needs improvement.
I have been to Cafe Murrayhill many times for weekend brunch and have always been pleased. It's great to have a non-chain option on the
west side and I've always been very happy with the food and service for brunch. My absolute fave is the bacon waffle. Yum!
With that being said, we have tried Cafe Murrayhill for dinner and although the food has been equally good, the evening servers need a refresher course in basic waiting skills. I hope that the manager reads this review and will address these issues with his/her staff. These were the main issues at our most recent visit:
* Waitstaff was chatting loudly behind the bar about stories of drunken antics.
* Our server asked whether we would be wanting dessert before we were even finished with our meal. When told "no" (mainly due to the irritation of being asked before we were even done with our entrees), she delivered the check, again before we had even finished eating.
* When she delivered the check, she looked directly at my husband and thanked him for coming. Not both of us, just him. But I am the one paying for the meal. Oh brother..........
* The change given back was only in $5 bills, which is a peeve of mine because it is basically a way that the server is trying to ensure that they get a larger tip than if the patron could choose to leave some $1's instead. This did not work in her favor this time as I left even less than I would have were she to have given me some $1's.
This all occurred on a Monday night when the restaurant was very slow. I could almost understand the whole rushing with the dessert and check if there were people waiting for tables, but there was not. Some of this may seem nit-picky, but when I am paying an average of $20 per entree, I expect better service than this.

used to be great, now just so-so.
6 months or so ago, I would have given this restaurant a much higher rating. The food was wonderful and unique, with fresh ingredients and
wonderful service. The menu was small, but the attention to detail was superb. The tomato basil soup is heavenly and so is the butternut squash ravioli.
That being said, something changed. A new chef? New Management? Budget cuts? One can only wonder. My husband and I have been going to Cafe Murrayhill (along with all of our neighbors) for a few years and we all have noticed a downhill slide in the quality of food, service and overall atmosphere of this once gem in a sea of chain restaurants. The last time we dined there, our service was subpar, I got the wrong egg dish and my friend ordered crabcakes, that had large chunks of carrots in them. Carrots are a unique touch to crabcakes, but it seems clear to us that shredded carrots would be a much better add to the texture of a crabcake. Who wants chunks of carrots in anything? It seemed like more of a timesaver then a carefully thought out ingredient, which is what Cafe Murrayhill used to be known for.
The service was also very slow, it took forever to get ketchup that we asked for and we had to search out our own salt and pepper shaker (after asking the waiter for both items, we got an eyeroll and he never came back).
At least the wine list is the same, which is very good and reasonable priced. Portions of wine by the glass are also better then most restaurants.
Also, in this day and age, a gluten free dish or 2 would be a welcome addition. I have many friends and family who do not eat gluten and I would not take them here for that reason.

My New Favorite Place.
I happened along this place with my wife and son while taking a walk around the little lake and enjoying the geese and ducks. There is
road noise from Murray, but it was nice to have a little oasis to enjoy.
Maybe we haven't been there during the busiest meal times, but we have never waited for a second to get a table.
The first visit, we had burgers and onion rings and they were awesome. SO incredibly superior to anything I've had at any of the chains around here. On a subsequent visit, the Onion Rings were not on the menu, but I mentioned how much I enjoyed them and they said, "no problem, we can whip some up for you." I didn't even ask, they offered without hesitating. To me, that is "Wow!" service.
Other places I enjoy with equal quality and service around Beaverton include Typhoon! and The Hall Street Grill and I find Cafe Murray Hill even better.

Mixed Review. My wife and I went to Murray CafĂ© today. I was excited to take her their after one of my clients wanted to meet their for breakfast and I had the Sausage Hash. Going on Sunday you need to be patient because it is a popular place in Beaverton. We waited 20 minutes for a table and 25 minutes for our food once we ordered. The wait person let us know it would be a while and offered biscuits, we declined. My wife ordered the bacon waffle and I ordered the sausage hash again. She like the he waffle, although I though $9 for sausage and eggs was a bit spendie. However, I was very disappointed in my sausage hash. Lot’s of potatoes and little to no sausage. It was a big disappointment to my first visit. I will probably go back, but I will let them know when I order about my last experience. View Less … View More
Finally a nice place in the Southwest Burbs. My wife and I eat out frequently and found this little gem a few months ago. To be honest we thought the name would lead us to a sandwich type shop. Boy were we surprised. This is not your typical Cafe by any means. We have eaten there all three meal periods and tried several menu items. Not everything was 100% to our liking but the Butternut Squash and Gorgonzola Ravioli is to die for. Not to mention the Wild Coho Salmon. Our kids love the breakfast there. It is a little small and sometimes the wait can be a little longer than normal but we still feel it is well worth it. The staff is friendly, and we even have had a visit to the table from the Exe Chef on more than one occassion. We think he may be new. Not sure why this place has been a secret for so long. Won't go back.
It has a great view by the man-made lake and interior design goes well with the surroudnings. In the past, I visited this place a couple of
times and had poor service. So I didn't go back for a while. However, my friend gave me Passport card as my birthday present and Murrayhill Cafe was on the list. So I decided to give it another try.
First of all, I would go to Murrayhill Cafe for brunch or maybe lunch. Not a dinner place in my mind but the Passport card only works after 3pm during the weekends for this restaurant.
We ordered crab cake egg benedit and stuffed french toast. Those were rather high ends on their menu. Egg benedict was ok. But the potato on the side was extremely greasy and burnt. The stuffed french toast was also burnt outside.
I expected much better quality of food for the price but it wasn't worth it at all. It just reminded me again that I shouldn't go back to this place.

Dining in murrayhill!. It's tough to find a decent place to eat in Beaverton that is not fast food or a pub. I've had breakfast, lunch, & dinner and they were all delicious! I recommended the turkey sandwich & tomato citrus soup! View Less … View More
Best restaurant in Beaverton. Went there friday night and the place was packed. We had the crab cake appetizer and it was the best I have ever had. Very fresh and simple. It was coated in crispy corn flakes and served with mango salsa and a coconut curry sauce. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the food and wine which shows me they care and enjoy it as well. Our entrees were superb. We had a scallop rissoto with spring vegetables and flat iron steak cooked perfectly medium rare. I will be in again to try their breakfast. View Less … View More
Nice place!. Nice place to have a meal. Atmosphere is good, view of the pond with fountains spraying is also nice. I would recommend Murrayhill cafe - it's a nice place to enjoy a relaxing meal or even just a glass of wine or coffee and dessert. View Less … View More
Great service, good location, wonderful food.
I visited this restaurant on a whim with a friend of mine - she had been there before and enjoyed their breakfasts but had never
experienced their dinner menu. We were delighted. The atmosphere inside is a little stark but charming, and we sat outside on the patio and thought it was delightful. Our server was knowledgeable about the wines and the menu, and we had no trouble picking out some delicious choices from their simple but creative menu.
I enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli with Beringer chardonnay (normally not a choice of mine but the server recommended it and it was wonderful). I loved it - a generous portion of everything, including lots of delicious gorgonzola, and our server even brought us a sample of the day's soup to try with our meal. My friend had the Cobb salad and raved about it - lots of goodies on it, which sometimes Cobb salads can be light on.
Prices were very reasonable (both of our dishes were $11-$12). Our dessert was the vanilla bean cheesecake (made in house) with berry compote. Delicious - definitely not to be missed if you go there. This was a wonderful, charming restaurant with personable staff - it was a pleasant, simple and wonderful meal all around.
