Yummy pizza!
by bulapdx
I had a half wild mushroom and my husband had a half pepperoni. Both pizzas were delicious. I'm not sure if they claim to be Chicago-style or if people just say it's Chicago-style because of the "deep dish" but this is NOT Chicago-style (we're from the CHI); however, this is as deep-dish are you're going to get in Portland and I'm pretty satisfied. When I have deep dish actual Gino's East, LouMalnati's or Giordano's, I end up feeling fat/bloated/greasy/nasty because all the loaded cheese; however at Dove ViVi's I left feeling full and still pretty healthy. We waited maybe 10 minutes at the "bar," had a drink, seated outside. It rained briefly before being seated so we were able to enjoy the fresh rain aroma (um.. only Portlanders can enjoy this, huh?). Unfortunately, a couple of random guys started pestering us while we were waiting for food- but I won't get into that. Food was great!
- Pros: Tasty pizza, fresh ingredients, service, ample seating
- Cons: location
Excellent

The cornmeal crust is fantastic, hands down. For two people, a half pie and salad is plenty. The beet salad was delicious, generously portioned with purple goodness, blue cheese and texture-adding walnuts. The corn pizza with homemade sausage was some of the best pizza I've had in a long, long time. I left feeling satisfied minus that post delicious meal heaviness - as if I ate a healthy meal - which I did. How often does that happen with pizza? Finally, the service is warm and efficient (you can tell that this is place is a labor of love). So do yourself a favor, get a few friends together and go.
- Pros: Flavorful, healthy, friendly
- Cons: None
unique flavor

I ordered the Coppa special: ham, provolone-I think, green olives and a garlic/spicy seasoning. It was very yummy, but too salty also the crust was a bit too hard for my little one. I liked that it was harder than most crusts, but wish it had been a little softer,, for both of our sakes. The flavors were all delicious. Thought it would've been good with some fresh tomato to cut the salt lick effect, it was yummy that way. A bummer to be charged for a tiny dish of diced tomato, but these days I guess a restaurant needs to be tight with these kinds of things.... Would be great if they offered a kids menu with a couple of food options and milk/juice or something like that. Lots of hungry families out there!
- Pros: Something different, hot and fresh, nice staff
- Cons: Crust is a little too hard, wish they had some kid options
Best Damned Pizza I've had in years!
by MWeitzel
I don't know if I was especially hungry or not but this pizza was the best damned pizza I've had in years. Wonderful crust, numerous topping choices and oh-so-tasty. My slice had delicious, smoky ham, mozarella, garlic, carmelized onions and greens. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The prices are reasonable and the service fine. I will definitely be back.

The most delicious pizza on the planet. I take everyone here when they come visit me, especially if I am trying to entice them to move here. Yum!
- Pros: Everything!
Love that cornmeal crust pizza!

Remember the scene in When Harry met Sally and Sally had a fake "O" in the restaurant? Well, the first time I ate at Dovi Vivi I almost had one for real. I couldn't contain my enthusiasm or surprise by how incredibly delicious the food was. All of my friends that have experienced Dovi Vivi for the first time either went back for seconds in the same weekend, or once, in the same day! I also have a friend who has a pretty high wheat/gluten intolerance and we ate there because we thought it would be better for her stomach (it turns out that cornmeal crust still contains a high amount of wheat) but she still sacrifices it all for a little slice of cornmeal crust heaven. The vegetarian and vegan options are delicious! My favorite: the corn pizza.
- Pros: The pizza is really incredible
- Cons: It can get crowded, so get there early!
I can still eat there

... despite the crushing economic climate. They are so reasonably priced! And delicious! And although they don't tout it the corn was from sauvie island, and that the crust is made with olive oil (couldn't figure out why it was so remarkably buttery and sweet, so I had to ask our server yet another question about the ingredients- but she didn't even mind! Probably because she was proud of the answers.) I am always impressed by the quality. The ladies there are always so nice, the food is always so good, and I always leave in disbelief at how little our bill was. SO refreshing.
- Pros: low key, classy but relaxed, inexpensive, nice staff, unique in a good way
It's good but not the best in portland
by lolo891
Ate here the other night. Very clean except for the bathroom. Ambience is kinda "cold" but again clean and still cute. Didn't know what to expect from the pizza and was pleasantly surprised. It's different from the New York style I am use to eating but still very good. It's more Chicago style and I will agree with the others that the crust is amazing. The toppings were a little lacking flavor but I honestly think it's because the crust takes away from the toppings. Glad I tried it! Won't be a going back for a bit because I have to rotate my favorite pizza places and Apizza Scholls is next. Again the crust is out of this world but felt as if I gained a pound with every bite. Rich rich rich!!!!!! I think this place will be around for a long time. : )
Remember kustom pizza? Thank you dove vivi.

I've eaten here several times and am quite satisfied with my experiences. The owners/employees are very nice and helpful, they make everything in house, the pie is unique to the neighborhood (and to portland) and is delicious. I love the new addition to the sidewalk seating, but am still bothered that my "roasted peppers" still have the skin on them making my slice metallic instead of sweet and savory.
- Pros: unique and tasty crust, friendly staff, sidewalk edition
- Cons: the little things
The best pizza ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by 0127
I love this place. I will never go anywhere else for pizza again. The cornmeal crust is to die for, so buttery and crunchy. You can taste the fresh ingredients in every bite. I have never had such a wonderful pizza before. I have been there twice in a weeks time. I have told at least 10 people and will keep spreading the word. Do yourself a favor and go to Dove Vivi. So yummy!!! Another great Portland spot.
- Pros: Best pizza ever
- Cons: I want to eat it every day
