Best food, view, and chef in Oregon

by woodixy at Citysearch

If you haven't already heard, Matt the Chef is amazing. The View Point has a beautiful setting overlooking the gorge - fantastic grounds and a wonderful real wood burning fire place inside. Matt takes simple ingredients and makes you want to lick the plate they are so good! Recommended: onion soup & any pork entree. The desserts are to die for. This is gourmet food, not large chain (and large portion) food- so if you like a unique setting and delicious food, I highly recommend it. It's also nice that you don't have to go downtown to get a great meal...relaxed environment and terrific food & views- what could be better?

  • Pros: Great views, great food- very small hotel side
  • Cons: I wish I could afford to eat here once a week!

A perfect place!

by Christine Roccia at Citysearch

I have to say that eating and staying at the View Point Inn was truly a great experience! The food was perfect and not to mention beautiful! The staff was amazing! They made sure that you always had everything you needed and right away! The location and the view were breath taking! My friend had her wedding there and I am still in awe at the wonderful set up they had! Everything was perfect! I dont think a bride could ask for more! I have read some of the other reviews and I cant say I feel the same way. I had a great time and experience there. I would recommend it to anyone and hope to visit again next summer.

Absolutely Amazing Experience and Stay

by KittyChan at Citysearch

I can't see how this Inn can have less than 5 stars. I stayed in the historic Roosevelt Room for 2 nights and it was an AMAZING experience. The view of the gorge is breathtaking from the grounds and the room. The room itself was gigantic, antique, comfortable, and I know for travelers this is important, the toiletries were TOP NOTCH! I slept so well, even with a restaurant right downstairs it was so quiet, what a great atmosphere! From the second we arrived at the View Point Inn, every staff member we encountered was kind and courteous to us and all the guests there. Took pictures for us, provided guidance around the Oregon area. I had reservations for dinner downstairs, and that too was phenomenal. The owners were around that night, and they were so friendly! Came to chat with us and made us feel like we were guests staying in their home! So hospitable!!

My fiancée actually proposed to me the 2nd night at dinner and the whole wait staff and owners were in on it! I almost passed out I was so surprised and I felt like I was celebrating with my family.

If you’re a Twilight fan, you should definitely come to dinner or stay here, they have a great little gift shop and they are so humble, it never felt like a commercial marketing scheme, it was all about making you feel excited about what was filmed there and being part of that experience.

All around just an amazing experience and highly recommend this place to everyone!!!

  • Pros: Breathtaking View, Hospitable Staff, Clean and Curtious!
  • Cons: None, but not many rooms, Book early!

Great Wedding!

by alexcan at Citysearch

My brother and his now-wife recently got married at The View Point Inn, and we had a great time. The place is absolutely gorgeous and all their pictures turned out great. I had to admit, being a dork myself I've read all the reviews online, so we didn't know what to expect. But my brother was happily surprised by how well everything turned out... not to mention, the wedding food was! Defintely not your typical wedding food. The bartender was awesome, didn't catch his name, but he did a great job. It's a beautiful place to spend an evening, and I know my bro and sis in law will come back on their anniversarys and have dinner.

  • Pros: location, location, location
  • Cons: everyone was to distracted by the sunset to dance!

Perfection

by k8lyngrace at Citysearch

Having been the guest of inns across the country, I can honestly say that the View Point is my favorite.

From complimentary cocktails that greet guests upon arrival to baskets overflowing with L’Occitaine goodies, the staff at the View Point Inn never fails to wow.

This mountain getaway has certainly earned its name, as the view of the Gorge is nothing short of breathtaking. Enjoy it from an Adirondack chair on the well-manicured lawn or over a meal from the dining room, outside or in. Speaking of the dining room, the food is fresh, the portions abundant, and the quality superb.

Quiet, comfort and class abound at this romantic home away from home. Enjoy it for a weekend or a meal. But remember, if you plan to stay overnight it’s important to plan ahead, as there are only four rooms available.

  • Pros: Incredible Views, Impeccable Service, Attention to Detail
  • Cons: Shared bathrooms are a small price to pay!

Want a second wedding!

by labpdx at Citysearch

After my visit to the View Point Inn, I really wish that I could marry my husband all over again in the courtyard. The backdrop is romantic, peaceful, serene, and charming. It is rare to find a gem like the View Point tucked away so perfectly into nature. The crackling fire place, and fresh flowers add a special touch. I asked my husband if we could have a second wedding there just for us since we both love it so much. Thanks to Angelo and Thomas for taking the time to make sure that we feel relaxed and welcome. What a special place. The food is delicious Northwest cuisine. Make sure you take the time to have a drink in the bar too!

  • Pros: So beautiful and romantic

Best Brunch and Wonderful Owners

by pdxgirl08 at Citysearch

Whenever I have family visit from out of town, I am sure to take them to the View Point for dinner, tea, or brunch. There is so much that I love there, the food is excellent, the staff is well-trained and most of all the experience is one that is truly memorable. Do not miss out on the Marscapone French Toast- it is amazing!! Take time to look around the Inn as well. It is evident that the owners take the time to ensure attention is paid to every detail. From the grand antique mirrors that adorn the guest rooms, to the fresh cut tulips in crystal. Perfect for tea with the ladies, and drinks in the lounge with the guys.

  • Pros: Food, view, owners, site, history
  • Cons: none

We ate there and found it wonderful, even sat and talked with the owners for a while about the history and the filming of the movie Twilight last April. We plan on staying the night there, and just cannot fathom all of these negative things in old reviews... you people must be crazy! This placeis great!

Staying in a place of history

by Benonsjr at Citysearch

I had recently gone out to stay at The ViewPoint Inn, and I had to comment on it here.

First off, via their website i had read up on the history of the building, and found it fascinating. So i had to venture there for a look and feel of the place, with my own perogative, of course. (I write about things that go bump in the night)

At The ViewPoint Inn, the view is, in a word, Heavenly! The lush nature setting is a perfect oasis. The Inn itself, is nothing short of spectacular. The wooden beams, and authentic restoration, the building itself is one of a kind.

I stayed in one of the rooms near the back of the Inn, and was hoping to experience or see something, which i might have, im not sure. I was just really taken back by the place.

In the morning, I had a chance to speak briefly with one of the owners. Not only was he receptive and personable, but his knowledge of the Inn and its history, and his passion for it is refreshing to see and experience.

The staff was very polite and the food in the restaurant, 5 star excellence.

I will definitely check out a view from the View Point Inn again. This time, for a longer stay

  • Pros: Views, Dining, Amenities, Guest Services
  • Cons: Too short a stay

Wonderful wedding venue

by BandKK at Citysearch

Simply put, our daughter's wedding at the View Point Inn on 4.4.2009 was spectacular. The venue worked wonderfully, including the ceremony, dining, entertainment, lodging, weather (!). In addition to having the wedding ceremony and reception at the inn, we had an "Aunt's" luncheon at the inn the day before the wedding and the bridal party stayed at the inn the night before the wedding.

Our experience with the food included, a luncheon, continental breakfast for the bridal party, "bridal bites" lunch for the bridal party, hors d'oeuvres after the wedding ceremony and the reception dinner. The meal items selected were not elaborate but were well prepared and presented, and reflected the region and our personal tastes. To suit our family and friends we had both meat and vegetarian meals (breast of fowl & Pan-seared halibut, forest-harvested mushroom lasagna). Many of our guests complimented the quality of the food.

We knew that having a wedding in the Gorge in April meant that the weather could vary dramatically and we needed to be prepared for both an indoor and outdoor wedding. We worked on both arrangements and rehearsed both. The inn is very pretty inside and can work for the ceremony, but having it outside takes full advantage of the spectacular location/view, and the logistics are notably easier (including taking wedding party photos). As it turned out the weather worked out for us and the ceremony was outside. There were around 100 people at the wedding, easily accommodated outside for the ceremony and comfortably accommodated inside for the reception (including having room for a dance floor). You probably don’t want to get too much larger, particularly if it is an inside-only affair. Also, it is good to consider the size of the inside space in determining how music should be provided. It doesn’t seem suited for a larger (>4 member) high energy/volume rock and roll type of band. We went with a small jazz group.

Our experience with the View Point Inn management and staff has been positive. We were very particular and thorough in making arrangements. Yes, we were acutely aware of the critical reviews and made sure that expectations on both sides were well established. We did work through some bumps with staff changes but nothing significant. Our working relationship with the owner has been very good, before, during and after the wedding. We pretty much got what we wanted with respect to vendors, payment arrangements, wedding schedule (the start and end times were just fine for us), use of the facility (no problem going outside), etc. We went into the arrangements very carefully after having difficulties with another wedding venue that fell through on us. You would not be seeing this review if we weren’t very satisfied.

Misc Other:

- Lamb Bakery – great cake

- Wifi in bar area nice for streaming in NCAA bball game

- mother of bride insists that the inn is perfect for a fairytale wedding

  • Pros: beautiful location, ambiance

Flawless Time

by CaronR at Citysearch

We had the pleasure of staying at the View Point Inn during a recent trip. Unfortunately, the weather was the only blemish on what otherwise would have been a perfect stay.

The view is breathtaking. The architecture is stunning. The service is more than adequate, and the food is wonderful. Both on the phone and in person, everyone I encountered (including the owners) were more than courteous and professional at all times, which makes me wonder about the nature of the negative comments.

I read the other reviews, and obviously opinions are like elbows, everyone has one or two.

  • Pros: View and Ambience
  • Cons: Weather
