Really, really good food

We just moved into Saint Johns and have been looking for a local eatery that we can walk to. Someone had mentioned the John Street Cafe, and while looking for it, we stumbled upon this little gem. We had an AMAZING dinner there the first night (mac & cheese and spring risotto) and it was so. darn. good. that we returned for brunch (eggs benedict & biscuits and gravy) a few days later. We went again last night (more mac and cheese and a yummy short rib dish).

Sweet symphony of flavors, Batman, the food is good. The place is cute and quiet, which I can't imagine will last for long because once people find out how good the food is I imagine there will be a line out the door.

The menu is a tad limited but offers a great balance of choices. The food is fresh (lots of local organic stuff) and seriously rivals many of the top restaurants I've dined at around the world. I mean it when I tell you I am haunted by that risotto—in the best possible way. And the hollandaise sauce was spot on. Not too buttery, not too lemony. Perfection.

Portions are nice, human-size portions (if you're looking to bust a gut, go somewhere else) and the prices are great. The cocktails are yummy too.

Seriously, if it were socially acceptable to lick my plate in public, I might have done it. *bows head in shame*

Relaxed

Just the kind of local peoples I want my money to support. So nice to have stumptown coffee and house made treats from this neighborhood couple. And now they have wine & beer to go with lunch too. So glad to have found them in my neighborhood!

Good place for coffee or steamer and a snack. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. I look forward to when they expand their offerings, which should be soon.
