If you like leftovers

by beentheredonethatb4

Ordered some take out and what I got was warmed up leftovers that tasted old. I can tell the difference.

I suspect it was in the lunch buffet earlier that day or the day before. Or even todays lunch buffet mixed with yesterdays. Only I had to pay a lot more because it was considered "dinner".

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: bad food is all

Steer Clear!

by aleeka

I used to work just down Murray from Abhiruchi and ate there a few times with coworkers for lunch. It was NOT good. The tandori chicken was dry and the other curries were over-salted and lacking in real flavor.

Do yourself a favor and eat someplace else.

Gets better and better each time I go

by valhansa

I have been going to Abhiruchi for years, and I prefer it to most other Indian spots on the west side. Prices are reasonable, service is prompt, food is very yummy. Known for its lunch buffet, Abhiruchi is a Beaverton gem.

Located in the Kmart/Grocery Outlet mall on Murray and TV Hwy.

Dark windows and modest signage, it doesn't scream for attention - maybe it should. It is in a former ice cream shop, and still has the flavor numbers on the back wall, now joined with Indian paper decorations. This place could really steal the show with a little interior design attention - some Indian decor from World Market would do wonders.

Looking beyond the atmosphere, the food is pretty darned good. Clearly there is pride in their cooking, as every time I go the food gets better and better, and the buffet selections vary slightly from day to day. Mostly meat and vegetable curries, grain dishes and Indian desserts, with green salad and a variety of sauces and condiments to compliment your plate.

All-you-can-eat lunch buffet, can make it busy for the weekday lunch crowd. Go early and don't plan to have any dinner that night!

A few things the lunch buffet doesn't include: dosas and varieties of naan and tandoori dishes. Those items alone are worth a trip to Abhiruchi for dinner.

I would like to see how Abhiruchi continues to evolve - maybe more grilled items on the buffet? Maybe more attention to detail and garnish? Can't wait!

See you soon!

  • Pros: fab lunch buffet, great dinner items
  • Cons: atmosphere is ... odd

We like it

by theblueone

We eat Indian at least once a week for lunch. Though we always call just when they're about to close for lunch, the owner and staff of Abhiruchi are always friendly to us. The food is always fresh and warm and served with a smile. I highly recommend them.

  • Pros: friendly
  • Cons: none so far

Not a good place anymore - terrible quality, overpriced, dirty, and poor selection for LUNCH

by Abzman

I've been to this place in the past and considered it ok. It's been a while and my latest visit was in February 2009. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Without prejudice here's my experience:

-There were only 2 meat dishes and the usual Tekka Chicken.

-Tekka Chicken stunk from being out for too long and was super super dry & skinny. Had no moisture left in it. This was truly the worst I have tried so far and I've eaten and many many Indian places around the US.

-The desserts & fruits were mixed in with food dishes. There was no organization. Some food & yogurt landed in the dessert dishes. No thought at all in the organization.

-The remainder of the lunch dishes were all vegetarian.

-They charged me for my 3 year old without telling me and all she ate was rice & a piece of bread from her mom's dish.

-The didn't present me with a detailed bill or put it on the table as usual. They told me to go up to the cashier. At the cashier he just rang up the total. When I asked him he said "8.95 per person" and when I said that still didn't add up he said he charged for my daughter at 50%. I later realized he charged more than 50% and it just happened that he charged enough to make it an even number!

-As for the flavor of the food, some of it was ok. I liked 3 of the desserts I tried. Nothing super but ok.

I would never return to this place again. It was over priced for what we got and I felt were a bit too greedy. The quality wasn't great at all and not worth it.

  • Pros: Parking, drinks included, bread ok
  • Cons: Dried food, overpriced, not clean, disorganized buffet

Fast Good Indian

by FoodyAshley

I can see why this has such a good rating, we went for the lunch buffet today and it was packed! Although it was very full, we walked in and the busser was quickly clearing a table that had just left for us. He was very nice, and promptly got us waters and unleashed us. Wow, I was amazed at the variety of tasty dishes. I have been to many Indian buffets before but all tend to be on the small side, this has got lots, even two soups. You have to be a fan of spice (as in not boring), because although not everything burns your mouth, all the dishes are packed with tons of flavor. I loved the tamarind soup, and the green curry with paneer cheese. We will be returning soon, also 'cause the busser promised to tell me where he was from when I came back.

  • Pros: yummy food, fast service
  • Cons: can be crowded, but this is how you know the food is fresh

Best Indian Buffet in Portland, OR Area

by TastefullyPresented

My husband and I have been enjoying the lunch buffet at Abhiruchi for several years. The dishes are always plentiful, varied and fresh. Having tried all of the other Indian restaurants in the area, Abhiruchi wins hands down. We have also eaten in many Indian restaurants overseas and Abhiruchi compares favorably with the best of them. The decor is a bit tacky and the restaurant is located in a rather unattractive strip mall, but we don't go there for the ambience. There are always a lot of Indian customers and that's always a good sign. I note there have been complaints from other posters about service, but we have always experienced friendly, quick service during our visits. I am a tad suspicious of some of the one star ratings.

  • Pros: Good variety, freshly prepared food, reasonably priced.

Delicious Lunch Buffet with a Great Selection

by llama12

My husband and I have been eating lunch at Abhiruchi regularly for the past 10 years and LOVE it. They have a great lunch buffet with a wonderful selection of dishes ranging from really spicy to mild. Our nine year old son even loves many of the dishes and is always suggesting we eat lunch there. I can't speak to the dinner experience, but the lunch is self service and is great if you only have an hour. They are typically busy, but not so busy we have to wait for a table. The food has always been fresh, and it seems to draw a good mix of Indian and non-Indian people. The people who work there and the owner have always been very friendly with us despite some language barrier. The decor is not impressive, so be prepared for that, but we go for the food and we bring our friends and family there when they are visiting. I am stunned to see people give them low ratings. Maybe it's their compitition - who knows. I've not tried dinner though as we love the variety of the lunch too much. We have tried a couple other Indian restaurants in the area and while some are also very good, we always go back to Abhiruchi.

  • Pros: Great food and selection on their lunch buffet, no waiting, great for a business lunch
  • Cons: Not impressive decor, in a strip mall with a pub, grocery outlet & K-mart

Worst food

by Sravz

I ordered for chicken biryani and I got something that tasted like stale Puliogare. The first biryani that I cooked came out much better. I wasted so much time and money going to the restaurant. And the so called "ABHIRUCHI SPECIAL" was equally bad. No salt in masala dosa and Vada. The appetizers will spoil your stomach instead of increasing the appetite.

I strongly recommend not to go to this restaurant.

THE WORST FOOD I HAD IN US

by thota

hi,I seriously don't recommend going to this restaurant coz they serve you the worst food in whole US.Moreover the manager boasts that no restaurant in whole us serves food made on that day rather they serve only the previous day's food.He is such careless and reckless. He even coated that the Americans cant differentiate between good food and bad food. They even enjoy the worst food it seems.I seriously suggest you please never ever think of going the so called "ABIRUCHI". I hope my review is helpful enough.
