The place is very small with great food and large portions for the price. This is more for the drinking crowd, but the food is delicous. Go early in the evening, always very busy.
To die for!!

We luv this place!

Me and my friends and family love this restaurant. When we consider having Mexican food, this is the place we always go to. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious!
The few people who have given Lupe's Escape a negative review must work for their competition (such as Juan Coronado, etc.)
- Pros: Excellent food, friendly service, reasonable prices
- Cons: Can get crowded

Microwaved food.
by jbirdd at Citysearch
This place has terrible microwaved food. You can see all of their microwaves in the kitchen.
As I was sitting in the waiting room for a table, I was able to see into their kitchen. I counted about 6 or 7 microwaves in there. They had one small grill and stove which they were not using at all. I sat and watched the guys in the kitchen for about 20 minutes while waiting for a table. They had all of the food pre-made sort of like a school cafeteria where they just throw it together. They would put everything on the plate and then microwave every dish for a total of 2 minutes on which I saw was High Power.
Their food is not good at all. It tastes like it has been microwaved, and you can tell because all of the cheese that they put on top of the burritos is thoroughly melted. You can see all of the microwaves they have in their kitchen when you walk past the bar area to go sit down.
The inside of this place is pretty grungy and dirty looking also. Their chips and salsa weren't even good. Please, I recommend you do not go to this place. Juan Colorado and On The Border are even better than this place and they are huge chains!
- Pros: The rice and beans are okay.
- Cons: Microwaved food, bad menu selection, bad margarita's, bad chips & salsa, dirty & grungy.
this is not really mexican food...
by jodybobby at Citysearch
having recently moved to the OR from AZ, and having grown up in the southwest, ie Phoenix and San Diego and having lived in northern NM for twenty years, I consider myself to know decent mexican food and I must say the while Lupe's is cute, the food that we had there the one time we visited was pretty definitely the worst excuse for mexican food I've ever experienced...had better in south Florida and Cleveland, OH.
- Pros: nice colors on the wall, liked the hats
- Cons: food was unrecognizable as mexican
A Hidden Treasure
by PDXGourmet2 at Citysearch
We've returned to this divey little restaurant time and time again. The food is excellent. Authentic, fresh and delicious. The service is good or bad depending on the time of day and how busy they are.
- Pros: Great Food, Great Value
- Cons: service can be slow when they are busy
Best Mexican Food around
by boo51875 at Citysearch
This is my first-time message. I worked at Lupe's back in '83 as a diswasher, I was 13 years old. This place has been around forever! My grandfather was mexican therefore a lot of cookin' was a must. I really enjoy the food here. Everytime we want to go out for mexican food-it's always Lupe's. I've been to many resturants in this area only to return to Lupe's.
I love this place and recommend it anyone!
- Pros: food,service-chimiconga's
- Cons: hours
I'm messing with everyone's sacred cow--or pig, but...

Really, I am not looking to rant--we have passed it enough times and we love a good divey Mexican joint--and went in with those paticular rose colored glasses on. The smell as we walked up was very promising... The place was dirty, and that is not really a knock because, well, it's a dive and that is just part of the casualness of a place. The menus had "samples" of many of the dishes. OK, that'll slide too. The salsa? Oh, I am sorry, sugar has no place in a salsa. The salsa is Just Wrong. Funky chips--and I will not abide with the arguement that you cannot get decent tortilla chips in Oregon, they are out there, I know, and I love 'em--these wierd little things at Lupe's are not good, not stale, just not good. And that poor pig that died to be my carnitas...steamed canitas? Nope, that ain't right. Cook it in a flavorful broth, then shread it and fry it up, that's how it is supposed to be done--and this wasn't a bad day in the kitchen--though a peak in the kitchen as we left would gave us the impression that they had a very, very bad day--no, this seemed to be how they cook carnitas there. The pico de gallo was make from those crappy green-on-the-inside WinCo romas, I reconize 'em. The guacamole was actually good, the service, very good--God love the servers there. So are we heading back? Most likely no--though to hear you all rant about this place, maybe we will--the bar specials looked good and liquor can hide a multitude of sins in a kitchen...
- Pros: Servers, guacamole, easy in and out and good parking, easy to find
- Cons: the kitchen and the housekeeper--though if they get a cook, the latter becomes endearing
For over twenty years it's been the best !

A little hole in the wall place that has been in Aloha for twenty years.
Lupe?s was always the best around for good Mexican food.
Back in 92 I moved away and when I moved back in 2005 all of the old restaurants that I use to go to were gone or not the same.
Lupe?s is just the same as it was twenty years ago. Good quality, fresh and yes waitresses with attitude. Isn?t that true in most hole in the wall places that have good food? As a regular I walk in and they asked if it?s the usual and that?s it. My chips, salad and dinner are all brought out I pig out on it and go. Consistently good food each time.
I make the ten mile trip once a week.
- Pros: Good food sassy staff.
- Cons: it's in Aloha
best lil mexicanplace this side of the border!!
by mammak503 at Citysearch
I have to say, i like to consider myself a mexican food conniseur, especially having grown up on home made recipes my whole life. Having that said, i'm a little picky when dining out at such places. I have to say, i was more than pleasently surprised with Lupe's escape! The food was outstanding as well as the service i received. Even on a busy saturday night i was greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile. The food was as traditional as my grandmothers recipies and just as delicious!!! The margaritas are incredible as well!! Think, little home town diner meets family dinner table meets a small lil restraunt in mexico and that's Lupe's escape! Relaxed, fun atmosphere and good food and drink make this place every bit of the five stars i've given it!!!
- Pros: Carnitas plate dinner
