Timberline is great! Having stayed there on several occasions and skied there even more I must recommend it to anyone!
Stay somewhere else

I was very disappointed in my holiday stay at Timberline Lodge, after I had heard so many good things about it. The food is terrible, and the staff wasn't sure what was going on at any given time. It's historic, yes, but unfortunately in this case, "historic" translates into "old and somewhat rundown". I recommend staying in Government Camp instead.
- Pros: In the middle of the mountain, great for families
- Cons: Very loud, thin walls, had to travel somewhere else for good food
beautiful setting, friendly staff

I love this place. I is a wonderful piece of NW History. A wonderful place to go on a romantic get away, or a fun family trip.
- Pros: Thumbs up
- Cons: little ways to drive
Nice Lodge
by kee22
My family has made a few trips to Timberline. The rooms and the service has always been excellent. The ski slopes are one of the best in OR. There is a lot of other activites to do. We have gone hiking, river rafting, and horse back riding. Overall, I think it's a great lodge and the skiing is great also.
- Pros: Nice lodge, beautiful view, a good number of nearby activities
- Cons: expensive food
A historic mountain lodge with star quality and romantic grace.

The Scene
Timberline Lodge was constructed out of giant Northwest timber and native stone in 1937, built entirely by hand by unemployed craftspeople hired by the Federal Works Projects Administration. Its exterior is featured in the movie "The Shining," but its interior (not used in the film) is cozy and cheerful with arts-and-crafts-style rooms and well-lit common areas.
The Details
Rooms are rustic and charming and were designed with families in mind. Lodge amenities include a restaurant, a year-round heated outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool, and a new exercise facility. Mount Hood's peak looms large behind the lodge, and from the front of the building, you can see almost forever. Thanks to the Palmer chairlift, which was upgraded a few years ago, skiers and snowboarders now have access to 300 acres of slopes--not to mention some of the most scenic views in Oregon.
History with a View

the lodge is fascinating when you consider it was created in the 1930's and the history behind it is worth experiencing. The rooms are romantic and rustic. The views of Mount Hood and the rest of the Cascades are breathtaking. That said the lodge is hot and the you will boil you don't leave a window open. The service in the Cascade dining room is slow and poor. The food is good, but overpriced. Brunch is expensive on Sunday and lacks choices.
- Pros: view, history, staff
Expensive and really bad service.
by camelia123
The hotel is chaotic. Our experience at the Cascade dinning room was bad. The service was bad (slow and rude). Our waitress showed up several times only at the tip time. Food was below average and expensive. The environment was not romantic at all. There were kids crying and running. Also, it was super hot and dark inside! It was a depressing experience.
However, the area, because of Mother Nature, is pretty nice.
- Pros: view, area, nature
- Cons: , bad food, depressing
Touch Mt Hood at Timberline Lodge
by westcoastdeedee7
The view of Mt Hood from the Timberline Lodge is phenominal. You feel as if you can just reach out and touch the mountain. The lodge has fabulous accomodations.
- Pros: view, skiing, restaurant
- Cons: windy roads, must pay for permit
on a clear day you can see forever

Great resort, a little noisy
by shaft28
My fiancee surprised me with a trip up to Timberline for the night this past weekend.
I found the staff to be absolutley accomadation and helpful. They went out of their way to get us what we needed.
The grounds were well kept, but I will say the hiking paths were marked very poorly. We met several people who were lost.
The room was cozy and had all the ammenities we needed. The beds were fantastic. The only draw back I found was the noise. A lot of people up late and very early making noise that sometimes sounded like it was in our room.
The fine dining was just that, excellent. Would recomend.
- Pros: service, dining room, staff
- Cons: noisy patrons/, thin walls, hiking trails
