Ken is an excellent trainer - ethusiastic & experienced with diet, exercise, and weight loss maintainance. He charges about $30-$40/hr. CAC has tons of exercise equip to choose from & keep adding new machines. They have pools, gyms, tennis, raquetball, hot tubs, & a great snack bar (try the banana, protein, yogurt shakes). CAC is more expensive than others I've been a member at (Bally, LA, 24, Naut etc), but you really get what you pay for! My health is worth it. It makes more sense to pay for a nice gym membership ($55/month) - where you actually feel confortable being sweaty at, than pay much more in later years in health bills. You could always work out on your own without a gym but will you - especially in the cold, rainy weather? CAC is quieter & cleaner than other clubs. LA's locker room is TINY! The trainers are horrid and UNPROFESSIONAL. They do have good weight equipment though.
Pros: Ken Coleman, pool, snack bar, amt & variety of equipment, quiet, locker room
Cons: expensive

We joined Cascade for two reasons, location to our home and the small business feel. When we moved we wanted to utilize their other clubs as they were much closer to our new home. Well, since we joined at the 205 location we could only use the little Gresham club, which has no pool, and if we wanted to use the other we had to pay an upgrade fee plus and extra $30 per month. They say it is a much nicer club, I suppose it is, if you want to use a dance studio...All we wanted was to have access to the same amenities that we were offered at the 205 club...we called about our concerns and had no luck coming up with a solution, really they didn't seem to care how we felt. Really, I wasn't really very disappointed, as the staff at the big gym in Gresham has a whole lot lacking. We canceled our membership and joined LA Fitness...They have all the amenities plus quite a few extras and we are paying almost $600 per year less with them than if we would have upgraded to Cascades "nicer" club. (Our monthly dues with LA are way less than if we would have stayed with Cascade and didn't upgrade, plus, the savings is even taking into consideration the registration fee we payed with LA, and we can use all the clubs in Oregon.) One more thing, Cascades equipment is all over the place and everything has that slightly worn out look. With LA fitness, all the ab machines are together, all the leg machines together and so on...plus you can tell that everything is clean. The locker rooms are spotless and the pool isn't like a YMCA pool that you have to watch out for the random child...it's a lap pool, exactly how a gym should be. We always try to support local companies so switching over to a big corporate gym didn't sit well with us, but we can only support a local company as long as the company supports the locals.
Pros: Small business, family friendly
Cons: Value, cleanliness, fees, corprate feel, love kids- but don't want to step over them when working out
