This place is long gone

I had several good meals here when Uncle Wally still ran it. Under the "Southern Cross" owners, I visited once, and food was still good.

I stopped by last Friday, and the place was empty. No notice on the door.

RIP Uncle Wally's BBQ.

Fresher meat in a pick-up bar

We went to the all you can eat Friday, and we found our limit. Barely warm ribs slathered in room temperature sauce. The day before we had tried to go and were told they were shut down due to an electrical problem. It's aparent these ribs were what they were able to cook before that; barely warm and obviously not fresh, little flavor and much fat. We found out it's no longer the original Uncle Wally's, having been sold a short a time ago, and it shows. The new owners do not have the touch or the feel for making ribs "to die for." The pulled pork sandwich was also disappointing; dry, tough, not even on the bun. Thanks, but we'll make our own next time.

Very disappointing!

Based on the glowing reviews on Citysearch, I was really looking forward to this place. We went on a Saturday evening and must have been served all the left-over meat from the week. The brisket was dry and tough, the chopped brisket was mostly gristle, and the ribs were also dry and flavorless. The sauce wasn't very good (way too spicy) and without it, everything was very bland. Maybe at lunch time during the week, everything is fresher and more flavorful, but based on this experience, we won't be returning.

Very good BBQ, Great customer service, Freindly staff

I haven't ever felt compelled to write a review and by no means an expert. I am just your average Joe. However, I really like this place I have been to a few BBQ places In Portland and this one I think is the best around. It has a real down home feel not like the big chain BBQ places. I love there mustard rub pork, they have fork tender brisket. Friday is all you can eat ribs for $11.50 how can you beat that (and their really good) ? I have yet to find anything like it. The prices are very reasonable I would recommend this to everyone who likes BBQ. Great Job Guys keep it up. I am absolutely going to be back.

Tender, Smoked and not full of Oil. It does not get any better than this!!!

There is some new owners we met when we stopped in for BBQ today. They are a breath of fresh air. Not only was the BBQ the best ever, All the meat was trimmed and not full of oil like some of the other places in town, the service was terrific. Thank you and know that we will bring our family in when you expand your hours and this summer we will use you folks to cater. Keep up the great work!!!

Uncle Wally's at the website, www.unclewallys(dot)net sells muffins, how is it that the Uncle Wallys name can be used by another company like Uncle Wally's Southern Cross BBQ & Catering?

I truly cannot rate Uncle Wally's Southern Cross BBQ & Catering because I have never been there but again I stumbled on this listing when attempting to locate the website www.unclewallys(dot)net

BEST BBQ in Portland!!!

Uncle Wally's just catered a luncheon for my small business and it was fabulous! The staff was very friendly, plus the food was awesome! I've eaten a lot of bbq, but Uncle Wally's was wonderful and better than any other bbq I've had. I really appreciated that the catering was arranged to meet our specific needs. I can't wait to use Uncle Wally's Catering again for my next event!

Decent BBQ

Uncle Wally has gone into retirement and sold his BBQ joint. They are keeping the name but Wally no longer has anything to do with this place. With that said I had really fatty brisket sandwich here a few weeks ago. I hope this is not a sign of what is to come. The ribs are solid and the beans are good too. You can't go wrong with the Pulled pork. Wally used a pellet style BBQ. In my opinion I don't think you get the best flavor from pellets. Anyway there are 4 other restaurants I would select as "The Best BBQ". This one to me is just average.

Best BBQ Ever!!!

They say that great BBQ resides in the South but Uncle Wally's brings it to the Northwest. The people are great and the food is fantastic. It's a little hard to find but once you go there you'll definitely remember how to get back. I love both their Brisket and Pulled Pork sandwhiches served up with a side of Baked Beans or one of two kinds of Chili. Or, check it out on Friday for their all you can eat Ribs special, just be sure to bring your apetite.
