Didn't have a bad encounter!

by rockinthemagick

I went last October to the Halloween Warehouse, we went in Late October; wasn't as crowded as I thought it was going to be. Surprisingly we got parking in front of the fountain store right next door. No I don't work for the store. There wasn't a lot of staff walking around the store, if they were they were trying to keep the costumes on the shelves. They have a huge selection of stuff. I didn't really have any problems with the staff there, not saying they're angels.

I think that it's worth putting up with rude people for a few if it's going to get you a kick ass costume. I mean I didn't have to deal with rude people but not everyone in the world is going to be nice. I am going back this year.

Good luck trying on the costumes at the store, the line was pretty long.

  • Pros: Lots of costumes
  • Cons: A little crowded (a given for the halloween season)

Beware the mean old man!

by designj

The old man at the register accused my friend and I of trying to steal costumes because we were walking around the store with a couple of them in hand while we looked at the accessories. We were buying costumes for ourselves, our husbands, and her kids, so obviously we were going to be holding several of them. He first yelled at us while we were shopping, so we complied with his demand that we not be holding so many costumes, although that meant having to put all the costumes back, and then find them again before going to the register. Then he yelled at my friend again when she was at the cash register paying for her things, telling her there was a sign about where you could and couldn't take costumes around the store, then he pointed at a sign (that we couldn't see, so we're not even sure that it existed) and proclaimed "HA! Gotcha!" Really? Are we in 2nd grade here? My friend told him we wouldn't be back, and he said "Good!" Other customers were watching the spectacle with looks of shock and disbelief on their faces. We were spending over $150 on all of our things, so one would think he'd want to keep us as customers. FAIL.

  • Pros: Lots of costumes and accessories.
  • Cons: It's a shame the way customers are treated.

Go at your own risk!

by ZestyPepper

So obviously the last comment was written by an employee of Halloween Warehouse.

I work with the public for a living, and I know they can be difficult to deal with (kids included). But honestly yelling at costumers will get you no where. I've been to this run-down halloween store on two occasions. Both times I've wittnesed them yelling at different costumers, not to mention when I purchased my costume the employee was less then friendly, didn't speak a word to me while ringing me up. She glared at me and the people I was with the whole time we shopped, I guess to make sure we didn't move anything out of place or steal! The store is run down and way to small for the amount of costumes they sell. They only have two dressing rooms, and costumers only can bring in one costume into the dressing room at a time. Really difficult when there's a huge line that you have to wait in everytime you want to try a costume on. Bottom line is, know that the employees will be rude and have no costumer service AT ALL because they don't think that it's part of "Americas founding ideals". No wonder they lose so much business.

stop complaining parents

by nalegak

how can anyone expect a halloween warehouse not to be cramped in the month of october? people put their shopping to the last minute, causing a frenzy in places like this, and they proceed to trash the place as they go. I worked at value village (big halloween sales there as well) and i know that parents let their children running around causing a giant mess throughout the entire store, especially in stores that carry plastic swords and costumes and princess crowns...children go nuts. As the people who work there, who see people trashing the store every day and parents acting like children (aka trashing the store as well) its hard not to yell as a first instinct. i dont know why people in America think that one of the founding ideals of this country is to be nice to everyone...friendly customer service is not one of your rights, so get over it.

..... and am actually looking forward to going back sometime soon.

by vgonash

I didn't see anything wrong with the store. I was nervous to go because I read some other reviews on numerous sites saying it was messy, and the staff was rude, but I didn't experience that. I went Mid October of '08, staff wasn't rude, but the guy who rung us up wasn't too smiley, but that's fine with me. I didn't think it was messy the costumes were organized in a weird way though, and it was kind of crowded back there, but that's to be expected this late in the Halloween Season. They don't have a HUGE variety of WIGS but they do have a large variety of Accessories and Costumes. Their prices are pretty normal. PARKING, we had no problem getting a parking spot, but their lot is not very big, and they share it with 2 different stores. The staff like I said wasn't rude, but they didn't ask us "Do you need help finding anything" either. But you've got to remember, that's a small staff for ALL those people, and it's a busy time of year, it's natural for people to be stressed out. haha. But yeah, I had a great time there, and am actually looking forward to going back sometime soon.

  • Pros: They have things you won't find anywhere else.
  • Cons: Limited Parking. (not their fault)

Worst shopping experience ever!!!

by Soccermom20

Pros: The only good thing about this store is its selection of Halloween costumes and accessories.

Cons: The place was cramped, dirty, disorganized, and the staff was beyond rude! As customers shopped, the owner screamed at everyone, repeatedly telling them that they could not take costumes out of the bags.

As my children were looking at a costume hanging on the wall, it fell down, due to too many costumes being stuffed on one fixture. The owner came over to my children, ages 6 & 9, yelling at them, completely scaring them.

When I told the owner to speak to me and not to my children, he refused, saying it was his right to tell anyone to stop making a mess. After he yelled at my children a second time, I again told him to stop. He proceeded to yell at me, causing a scene in his own store! I took my family and left...saying we would never shop there again and he said he'd make sure of that, as he would have me arrested for trespassing the next time!

Well, I don't what country he lives in, but my understanding of being arrested for trespassing, is that a crime has to be committed in the first place. My crime? Protecting my children from a rude, despicable idiot!

This was, by far, the most unpleasant shopping experience I've ever had. This happened to us a few years ago and my children still talk about it to this day!!!

These people should not be allowed near the public, let alone, children.

WOW!!! What a selection!!!!

by 7776

My Kids think this is the greatest store on earth! My 2 boys would rather shop in the accessory aisle here than at "toysRus". We have shopped at this store for school plays, halloween, and just for fun. The selection is the best I've found in the Portland area and they are well stocked all year long. If your child likes to play dress up (whose doesn't ?) this store is a special treat. You can avoid the last minute halloween rush due to them being open year-round. I would highly recommend this store to young and old alike wether you're shopping for halloween costumes or just for fun.

  • Pros: selection, selection, selection !!
  • Cons: limited parking during the busy season
