I'm a loyal Ruth's Chris fan, that's usually my spot when I want to drop a couple hundred and be spoiled. What drove me to Morton's were some rave reviews from friends. My wife and I had a great evening. Overall the best experience at a steakhouse I've had period. The food was excellent, not the best steak I've had, but very, very good. Probably a 9 on a scale from 1-10. However, the best cheesecake I've had. It was to die for. The service was absolutely top notch and as my wife put it, we need to go back for the ambience.

The service is personalized and outstanding in every way. The steaks are excellent. OK, the live lobster on the tray was a bit over the top. The price is high, but for the quality in the cuts of beef and the unbeatable taste, it's worth the extravagance. Be sure to share the sides, they are huge.

Pros: steaks, service, comfortable ambience

Cons: pricey, over-priced wines

Was rewarded at work with dinner for 2 at Morton's. Took my wife and not that impressed with the food, except for the salads and the desert. Huge portions but way over priced at dinner for two for $140. Steaks were just OK and the wine was extremely expensive at over $10 per glass. The only way I would go back would be for the company to pay for it and I would actually like to be rewarded a different place. Morton's is over-rated and over-priced. Atmosphere is not that good either. Because there are a lot of loud large group business people dining there, we did not find it warm and romantic either, kind of felt like I was in Las Vegas convention with loud drunk groups, very distracking when I wanted to concentrate on my meal and my wife. Waiters seem pre-occupied with the other larger groups and were very slow.

Pros: Salads and Desserts

Cons: Slow Service, Average Steak, Very Expensive, Noisy Atmosphere

I was not impressed on my initial visit to Morton's yesterday evening for my husband's birthday. First off, we had to wait close to 10 minutes for the Maitre'D to be located so we could be seated. When he finally took us to our table, he did not even bother to push in my chair for me, which I found rude. On the other hand, our waiter was kind and apologized for the delay in seating us - something the Maitre'D hadn't even acknowledged. When they brought us our bread, I noticed that not only we, but everyone else lacked bread and butter knives. Everyone was using their steak knife to slice and butter the bread, which I found odd. When they brought us our crabcake appetizer (which was good), once again, they failed to furnish the proper utensils (this time appetizer forks) as well. The steaks were good, but I've had better steaks and much better service at Ruth's Chris and Shula's. The highly recommended chocolate velvet cake was bland. I've had better cake at several, smaller restaurants. Overall, our experience at Morton's was poor. The slightly above average food did not make up for the lack of service we received. For a dinner that cost us $200 for two people, I would have expected better service and at least the proper utensils to eat my food with. Ruth's Chris has better cuts of steak prepared in the same way as Morton's (broiled in butter), and great service on the multiple times we've been there. Shula's also had excellent cuts of steak (not broiled in butter, however) and excellent service. We have not tried El Gaucho yet, but it is next on our list.

Pros: Crabcake appetizer

Cons: Service (Maitre'D), lack of proper dining utensils

Best service ever, anywhere. We had five people serving our entrees (four at the table). Worth the price - we frequent Morton's for the service.

Pros: Service, Food, Desire for Perfection

Cons: Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.

I have been to plenty of wonderful steakhouses, and Morton's didn't quite make the mark. The steak was very good for a steakhouse, but not great. The service by the waitress and server were wonderful and they attempted to cater to your needs. I would say that I have been to other great steakhouses in Portland and Seattle and this experience was Average.

Pros: Service, Attention to Detail

Cons: Could have been better steak

I took my husband to dinner with friends for his birthday on December 30th and what a disappointment. While the service was impeccable, the filets for the price should have been a center cut, but instead it was an end cut with a lot of gristle. When we mentioned this to the manager that we were disappointed, he seemed to be very proud of the fact that they were using all of the filet including the tail. The Steak Diane was mediocre. It was a full cut filet, not butterflied, which didn't allow for the flavors to permeate through the meat. The Lobster Bisque and Lobster Cocktail were out this world, as was soufles. I don't think I would go back again, although we have been there other times and the food was superior; but we haven't had filets or Steak Diane before. Frankly, we have better filets for much less at "average" restaurants, not "steakhouses".

Pros: Lobster Cocktail, Lobster Bisque, and service are OUTSTANDING

Cons: FILET AND STEAK DIANE WERE UNACCEPTABLE AND THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE

We were there on a Monday, the service was slow, the place was loud. Really bad accoustics, not romantic when it is that loud. Food was not that good and it cost us $150 for 2, we can do better at other Portland restaurants. We were offered free after dinner drinks by the Matre' D but we were too full to accept them. Maybe the regular staff is off on Monday's but no excuse for poor service and food.

Pros: Good desert

Cons: Average Steaks

Went to Morton's for my wife's birthday. The wine at $11 per glass was excellent. The salads and grilled asparagus were excellent. Both steaks, Steak Diane (tenderloin) and Steak Oskar were very disappointing. We could have done better on our own bbq with steaks from a local discount chain. The hollandaise on the Steak Oskar was horrible, tasted like wallpaper paste, tasteless. The chocolate cake desert was excellent. For 2 salads, 2 small tenerloins, 2 glasses of wine, 1 vegetable (6 asparagus speers we split), and a desert we split, we paid $168 (including tip). The service at times was slow, not very attentive because they had a large business group in the table next to us, very loud admosphere. For $168 I would have expected gourmet mouth watering food and exceptional service, both were below average. Will not go back.

My husband and I went to Mortons not knowing what to expect...we were blown away! We love to dine out and have eaten many amazing meals, but Mortons was one of the best! I had the lobster and it was awesome! We will be back soon!
