Best you'll find in PDX
by kumm
This location nine times out of ten has good pizza - sometimes, depending on the cook or something, the pizza is inconsistent. Overall, really good pizza and daily specials in-store. Twice on delivery, pizza tasted great, but they'd mixed up our order (and whole pies are way overpriced).
Wish they would stop (re)using gross trays. Super unsanitary. Glad they stopped collecting the trays, at least, on top of the garbage can. It's not NY pizza, but they're not trying to be.
- Pros: great daily specials. carbonated coke is a bonus!
- Cons: reuse of wooden trays is unsanitary; slightly overpriced but mostly worth it
repeated order confusion

We used to get our pizza from Blind Onion, until they closed their downtown location. We were devested until we found the Hot Lips pizza near PSU. Our first order was wonderful, and we were hooked. Our second order took 90 minutes to deliver and we live only four blocks away. Our third order took 2 hours to deliver. Both times we were quoted 45 minutes. Our fourth order was forgotten. So we called again and they cooked us a new pizza and priority delivered it with a discount. It was still raw, because they rushed it so quickly and didn't cook it all the way. We decided that perhaps the PSU location might be incompetent, but we didn't want to give up because the pizza is really good. So, we tried to order as a pick up item from the new location by the Civic condo building on Burnside. We called in our order and went to pick it up. They cooked entirely the wrong pizza for us. The person we ordered from had left, so no one knew what could have happened. So, they made us a new pizza and we had to wait 25 minutes for it -- making it yet another 90 minute experience. And no discount was offered. I am sure you can understand that no matter how good the pizza is, and no matter how much we like it, we are ready to give up on Hot Lips.
awesome pizza!

With brightly painted walls, diffrent dining levals and an outside deck, Hot lips would be my first choice in dining out to pizza. The slices are very large and freshly made, and the breadsticks are huge! Hot lips isnt dirty but with mitch-mached table clothes, and diffrent sized tables you really get a laid-back and 'homey' feeling. The staff was was very nice, which made ordering easy and fast. Plus the prices are very reasonable! its an afforadable lunch or dinner!
- Pros: affordable, large slices!
- Cons: pizza goes fast, might have to wait
Delicious pizza at a great price.

I go to Hot Lips Pizza because it's right on campus. And I'm so happy it is. Hot Lips Pizza is affordable ($2.75 for a slice of cheese pizza!), delicious, and they emphasize on using local ingredients. The atmosphere is laid-back and so are the staff. Awhile ago, they hired a guy who seem kinda slow. He's polite and all...but sometimes I need my pizza quick! People who thinks Hot Lips is disgusting are crazy! I prefer Hot Lips to Pizzicato (down a couple blocks) any day! (Pizzicato is more greasy and slightly higher in price.)
One word: Delicious =P
- Pros: On the campus of PSU, Price, Selections, emphasize on being local
- Cons: Only offer Pineapple-and-ham (Hawaiian) on Tuesday!
Lots of pizza in Portland but Hot Lips is the best

Some of the most interesting creations in pizza I've ever experienced: Broccoli, pine nut, cheddar and squash sauce or Ham and pear. Cool daily specials keep things interesting and even vegan foccaccia slices are great. Plain slice o' cheese is not as good as the rest, and while the breadsticks are cheap and popular, I find them dense and boring. PSU location fun hangout and Hawthorne store close to great shopping.
- Pros: Quirky pizza specials, yummy sauces
- Cons: No special meal deals on multiple slices or with a drink
*Usually* awesome pizza

I've eaten here quite a bit in the past, typically for a pizza slice and a breadstick. The breadsticks are great and the pizza is usually excellent, although sometimes it is a little burnt. When the Pizza is fresh and hot out of the oven, it is very good. I think Hot Lips needs to improve a little bit on its pizza-by-the-slice consistency, and make sure Pizzas don't come out burnt or stay out on the display too long. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about the place. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, there is always reading materials around to read, plenty of napkins, beverage selection is very good, and lots of organic ingredients used in the food that they make.
- Pros: Extremely good pizza and breadsticks, good atmosphere
- Cons: Inconsistency sometimes in pizza by the slice
Average but interesting choices

I really wanted to like this place because I live close, it's choice of toppings, and good reviews. I've tried it about four times and it just isn't very good. Three of the times I got slices and the last time I ordered a pizza. The pizza isn't horrible but it is dry, kinda burnt, and the cheese tastes fake. I think any chain pizza would have tasted the same or better for half the price! The daily special slices are interesting for a quick lunch and they do have unusual toppings and this is why I gave the restaurant three stars. But really, it isn't good enough, in my opinion, to order a whole pizza.
Great Pizza!

While in town a local pointed the way to the most delicious pizza- Hot lips Pizza! I am a very picky pizza eater and usually resort to making my own to avoid disappointment. The Pizza we had was delicious with plenty of vegetables and fresh garlic with ingredients that go all the way to the edge! Tasty Beer, Tasty Pizza- only wish there was one where I live!
JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE!!

People Of Portland: For the love of God...this is NOT good pizza! The sauce is completely void of taste, the cheese tastes like a processed cheese-food type product and the toppings we had (sausage and roasted red peppers) are even less appealing. How on earth does this place do such a brisk business? Is Portland really that backwards? Have none of you ever really tasted what pizza should taste like? Thinking about visiting Hot Lips? Save yourself a TON of money and head to Fred Meyer and pick up a frozen pizza....you will still be disappointed, but you will not be out nearly as much money.
And to the owners of Hot Lips: seriously guys....great pizza is reallly not that hard to prepare. We're not talking about something complicated....it's pizza. You should be ashamed of yourselves!
- Pros: They were playing really great Herb Alpert music!
- Cons: Pizza is HORRIBLE...Overpriced and ridiculously bland!
