Sure, the seats aren't so comfortable, and the movies are often a bit inaccessable, but the Clinton Street is a wonderfully weird Portland staple. you can see the Rocky Horror Picture show here on Saturdays. The admission is $6, I think, for all shows. Definitely a fun place to be- the bar is good, too!
THEIR ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW WAS SO TERRIBLE!

I LOVE Rocky Horror Picture show, but this place did such a horrible job with the movie. My group of 10+ friends left after 5 minutes. There are terrible "actors" who are about 18 years old who swear every other words and yell obscene things at the screen. You can't hear the movie and they don't talk or sing along with the movie, just yell "inappropriate things." We were so angry that they ruined the movie, we left. The management was horrible too because when we said we wanted our money back they said "sorry, this is what we do." Well I wish I would of know that's what they did! DO NOT GO TO THIS THEATER! P.S. You can't drink beer in the theater - you have to drink it first.
- Pros: Nothing
- Cons: "Actors," can't drink beer inside theater, can't hear movie over yelling

Clinton street theater is, like the other reviewer said, not terribly comfortable and a bit over priced considering its competitors. However, it's a Portland institution (and is part of keeping PDX weird). It's been showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight every Saturday night since April 1978.

UNLESS YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE WITH AMATURE ACTORS YELLING AND JUMPING ON THE STAGE TRYING TO ACT OUT THE MOVIE WHILE ITS PLAYING...THEN DONT GO ITS A WAST OF MONEY THEY MAKE PEOPLE PRACTICALLY GET NAKKED, TO INITIATE THE "VIRGINS" TO THE SHOW ITS DISGUSTING,JUVENILE, AND DIRTY.....WE LEFT AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES...ITS LIKE WATCHING A BUNCH OF 12 YEAR OLD THEATRE GEEKS GET NAKEDD AND TRY TO ACT.......
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: HORRIBLE

OK,
You may or may not agree with me that The Clinton St. Theater has the best indie movie selection in town. But now thaey have really outdone themselves. They have added a full service brewery next door and connected the two. So now, you can take beers into The Clinton. The place is amazing, and I hope the beer brings in more customers. The place rocks!
- Pros: popcorn, beer, movie selection

We all know there's been Winter Storm 2004 but the theatre management seems to want to prolong the experience by not using the heat. Clinton Street theatre is hip and independent, the movies are great, but the price is not that low ($6, versus $3 at Bagdad & Laurelhurst), and the sound and seat are way below the norm. After 3 hours of sitting in a frigid theatre watching Scarface on 1/12/04 I'm going to rethink hitting this theatre unless I'm willing to risk

OK,
I just saw a Pristine Print of True Romance. Where else in the world could you do that? There have been many improvment to the theater. New seat are cozy.
The best movie Popcorn on earth! Someone mention to me they have a secret recipe, and they use REAL butter! Cheap Prices for the movies.
Of course the reason this place kicks ass is the amazing selection of films.
The neighborhodd is also hip and fun. Try Dots after the late show for some good grubs.
- Pros: Movie Selection, Popcorn, Prices
- Cons: No Weekly Matinees
A must for film fans...

Very charming, little theater mainatined by a bonafide film fanatic. The type of theater that every large town/city needs: frequent thematic bookings of multiple films (trashy motorcycle 60's movies, W.C. Fields shorts, etc.), cheap treats, and reasonable admission. A sanctuary for any cinephile.
- Pros: cozy, broken-in, eclectic

Sure, The Clinton isn't very much to look at when you first enter it, but the friendly staff and unique film choices totally make up for it. Make sure to check out the Rocky Horror Picutre Show on "cabaret nights"! They are crazy!
