I have been to Bijou a few times now and I have to say that it is getting better and better with every visit!! The food options are creative, local, natural/organic, and the sweet and efficient staff make the experience an overall must for a great starting point of my day. I will return.

Pros: nice waitresses and creative food items

Cons: long lines on the weekends

Ok, it was Saturday morning, therefore the place was pretty busy, but the service wasn't very friendly, and my husband's Illy capuccino was way too bitter. My decaf coffee was surprisingly good, and the food was all right, definitely not 5* though! Also, if I'm allergic to anything, it's the waiting stuff getting friendly right at the point of giving you a bill, which only suggests that they care only about the tip, no matter how neglected you got during the whole breakfast. Don't think we'll be back for a while.

A friend treated me to bijou, cafe which was a definite plus because the prices seem pretty astronomical for what they're serving. However, I had one of the scrambles and it was really delicious. My only complaint is that, if you are sitting next to the kitchen as we were, you have to listen to the ding of the bell every single time an order is up. That really ruined the overall dining experience for me because they were busy that morning and consequently the bell was going off every thirty seconds or so. If you can get a table further away then I'd say give it a try - it's good food and nice servers.

Pros: Delicious food (caramelized onions, anyone?), nice servers.

Cons: Very loud, dinging of the bell when orders are up, tables are a little close for comfort.

I hadn't been to the Bijou in years when I stopped in for an impromptu breakfast recently. Most everything about the experience was good, except for my actual meal. The service was polite and reserved, just as expected from the long-time waiters there - very professional. The decaf coffee was excellent! A nice surprise. I ordered an omelet with potatoes in it, which came with potatoes on the side. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the potatoes on both accounts were cut large and seemed simply boiled. I couldn't detect any seasoning at all, and they weren't browned. So basically I had plate of boiled potatoes for $12.50. Pretty disappointing. Next time I'll order better, but with all of the breakfast joints in this town, it will probably be another 7 years before I go to the Bijou again.

Pros: Service, coffee, ambiance

Cons: Tasteless potatoes and way too many of them!

After seeing the lines at Mother's, we took a walk down the street and ran into Bijou. I'd heard about good things about it from a couple of people, and thought it might be a good substitute. There's a reason why one place has lines out the front door, and Bijou's has open seats. It's miserable food. We overspent for it, and both of us left most of it on the table. In every way, it was a disappointing breakfast.

Pros: I survived

Cons: Barely

Good Oyster Hash. You might like the oysters at the beach, but they kind of leave them out a little. Think it's a problem? Don't eat there then -- too expensive for the likes of you.

Pros: Mood, Oysters, Brunch

Cons: Pistols, Waitresses

I've had a wonderful 30+ year experience with the Bijou Cafe. Their regular menu and innovative new offerings have always been dependably good, the coffee's always fresh and I've never wanted for better service. I know they get really busy during peak times so maybe service slips a bit from time to time but I've never had a bad experience and the help has always been friendly. The place has a lively ambience and a distinctive personality...truly original. The Bijou ranks right up there with places the likes of Besaw's, Milo's, The Jam and others of that ilk. Give it a try, it's all good.

Boy, they really like their potatoes here. I got potatoes as a side dish and in my omelet. Strange item to put in an omelet (I know they're usually found in fritattas, but not omelets). Otherwise, the food was just average. a little pricey too. Friendly staff and nice bright room.

Pros: Nice and relaxed

Cons: a bit pricey, especially since the food was nothing special

The service was very warm. I had to wait for a friend and I was invited in and served waaaaaaaay too much coffee. (The surest way to my heart is to give me coffee, so my opinion has been purchased via kobo's superb tasting, and fair-trade friendly little black bean) I was attended to even though I was just sitting there. The food was good, portions definitly not small. The only thing I can possibly complain about is that my scrambled eggs, which I asked for on the side (and was quite willingly accomodated) were a little too buttery. I don't live in the city, so i drove for an hour in crummy traffic just to have breakfast with a friend. It felt friendly and calm inside, in contrast to the traffic battle I had just fought. The sun was filtering inbetween the passers-by through the large window and I felt relaxed and cheered after a hard week.

My husband and I had been to the Bijou several times and we've previously enjoyed their service and food, but on our last visit, one arrogant employee completely turned us off from the restaurant. When we arrived Saturday morning, I tried to wave to the tall white-haired employee who was standing outside and taking down names on the waiting list. Though he saw me, he turned and started to walk back into the restaurant. When I followed him to ask to put my name on the list, he looked back at me, visibly annoyed, and loudly warned me not to try to cut in front of other people. I turned around and saw a woman standing there, who I hadn't seen before. I apologized, explaining I hadn't seen her. At this point, the employee told me he wouldn't write my name down on the list. Confused and humiliated, I left. My husband and I decided to walk over to Mother's, where they were very kind and accommodating. The treatment I received was uncalled for and ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing Saturday morning. I shall never return to the Bijou.

Pros: good food

Cons: awful arrogant service
