User Reviews for Aroy Thai Cuisine

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

The atmosphere is casual and "no frills," but all the staff is friendly, fills your water, and makes some great classic thai dishes. The prices are also quite stellar for the amount and quality of the food.

Pros: food, quality, quantity, price, friendly

Cons: ambience

Order the Pad Thai.. With Chicken or veggies.. It's great! I get it once a week. You will be full after your huge portion, I guarantee it. The cook and waitress are super nice. Good people.

Pros: Great food for great price.

Cons: Small place.

This is a great lunch place. My coworkers and I stumbled onto it one day at lunch, and are so glad we did. It's a little hole in the wall with very little sitting room - but it's worth waiting for a table. The fried rice is what I go back for, and ask for pineapple to be added to give it extra flavor. It's wonderful! The service is great too. There is only the hostess and the cook - the hostess is so sweet and helpful. I strongly recommend this place for anyone who likes Thai food - and for anyone who is knew to the area, you get a good "flavor" of the downtown lunch scene by going here. The servings are good portions for the price as well.

Pros: Great Food; Great Service; Great Price

Cons: Lacks Seating Space

bland pad thai and a waitress with a really annoying lil girl voice. the garnish ( a lime) had more flavor than the noodles. eww!!

I have been in love with this resturant since I was in high-school, when I seldom had much spending money. It has stayed a favorite through my starving college student years and I still visit whenever I am in the mood for tasty Thai that I don't have to break the bank for. My favorite combo remains pad thai and an order of yellow curry. This $14 order can easily stuff three people with hearty appetites.

Pros: Fast service with a friendly smile and wonderful inexpensive food.

Cons: Only one is that it could be called a hole in the wall.

I am writing this review strictly because I never want this place to close. Some advice: Best thing to get is the coconut soup. Hands down. We have tried many - from Typhoon to E-san. This stands out, other dishes are good, but get this if you want a new favorite dish in Portland. The waitress (same one always) is super, super nice.

Pros: Soup, Service , Price

Cons: Ambience

Great, authientic thai food at prices you won't believe! You definately won't overpay for Americanized food like you do at most places. The owners are some of the nicest people around, and did I mention the food is unbelievably good?!

Pros: Great food, friendly owners

Cons: PACKED at lunch time!

I have been a regular customer for over 5 years. Aroy is my favorite Thai restaurant and I definitely bring my "out of town" guests here! The owners are wonderful cooks in addition to being friendly and welcoming. I feel I get more than just "food" when I go there. My favorites are the Yum Woon Sen and Fried Rice.

Pros: , delicious, inexpensive

I'm Thai and I can guarantee that the taste of food here is the closet to the real Thai food in Thailand. Must try are "Pad Thai" and "Sukiyaki". Best Thai restaurant downtown indeed!!

Pros: yummy, very cheap, friendly

I'm married to a Thai woman and spend a minimum of 2 months, each year, in Bangkok. Because of our situation, everyone asks "what's 'real' Thai?" We have been looking for such a place Portland, to share Thai cuisine. Because of the raves, and claims of the "real deal", we tried Aroy. Unfortunately, although tasty "asian" take out, the cuisine is far from authentic Thai. It's more a Chinese variant, complete with chopsticks! Aroy (delicious) maybe; Authentic Thai,... not!

Pros: Cheap, fast, friendly

Cons: not Thai, no parking

Editor's Review

It may be one of the city's smallest Thai restaurants, but it holds its own against the big boys.  See the full editorial review.
