Thanks for helping make me gorgeous

by k_kenzie

After just getting divorced, I was determined to go out and do something for myself- so I did! I went and got permanent eyeliner and eyelash extensions, and then I went shopping at here and got a a bundle of gorgeous new clothes! The people were so friendly, helpful, and honest. They even talked me out of getting a few things because they looked terrible on me. I didn't feel like they were being pushy to make a sale at all. I have gotten nothing but compliments from my new look; thanks so much Mario's!

  • Pros: Beautiful Clothing
  • Cons: Expensive, but it's the best.

LOVELY!

by francoiscecile

I love the Mario?s in Portland much more than the one in Seattle, especially during the popular Superbowl Sunday sale. People are nice. The women?s selection is hip and eclectic, from Alberta Ferretti to Marc Jacobs. I?ve always been treated well and love the touch of being offered San Pellegrino or wine while I?m trying on clothes.

  • Pros: Great selection and fine service.

Refined runway styles are served up at this historic downtown department store.

by Contributor

In Short
Since the 1930s, this store has been synonymous with sophistication. The company has combined its men's and women's collections into a luxurious, two-story clothing mecca. Shoppers here come with money to burn. The store is divided by designer. For men, it's brands like Hugo Boss, Tommy Bahama, Prada and Armani. Women's lines include Vera Wang, Alberta Ferretti, Calvin Klein, Tods and Seven jeans.

Fab Clothes

by superturnip

My favorite store in Portland. If you are looking for high end clothes, personalized service, and a touch of wine check this place out. The men's selection is fantastic and featured on the main floor - definitely worth checking out

Top dollar, Bottom service

by raven0607

They have some nice clothing but the service is horrific. I came in last weekend to buy some shirts and a suit. At first the salesmen was nice and greated me promptly asking, "can I help you find anything?" I told him I needed some shirts then he said "excuse me" and greeted another customer at the door and didn't speak to me again. I turned around and walked out.

From now on I stick to Saks and Michael Allen's.

Other reviews misleading

by maj76

arios in Portland is a great shopping experience. The staff are professional and accommodating. They did not know me as others would lead you to believe is required to get service and I received great service. I came in to browse and came out with two great mens suits partly due to the intimate service I received. Marios sales professionals are discreet, courteous and HIGHLY knowledgeable, characteristics I prefer over false sales-minded flattery and fawning any day. I highly recommend Marios and will be returning.

Mario's Lacks Customer Service

by darkpoeticken

If the sales people do not know you, they will not help you. They will get excited about their most valued clients, but why suffer through the awful treatment to get that status. Compared to Saks, they have more selection, but at the same time one must deal with being ignored, disrespected and not taken seriously to shop at Mario's. Spending $1500 at a time is not enough to make them remember a face, or especially a name. The people at Saks value all of their clients, and tend to remember anyone who buys just one item. Don't waste your time being talked down to when you have the money they need to stay in business.

  • Pros: Selection, Location
  • Cons: Sales People, Service, Attitude

The service makes the difference

by mchartz

If your tates in clothes tend to gravitate toward Europe, this shop and Saks are your only real choices (that I've found) in Portland. The prices are about the same, selection is similar but better at Marios.

The huge difference, however, is the service. Marios treats you like you are their most valued customer, even if you are only buying socks. Expensive socks, but socks nonetheless.

If I had more money, I would likely have less money because I would spend more of it here.

  • Pros: The People, Selection, Labels
  • Cons: Price
