Philly vs Portland
by mitchdeighan
I'm writing this from Philly although I'll be returning to Portland in a couple weeks, I'm in the process of making the jump from east to west. Portland is awesome! Fortunately, my buddies introduced me to Tribute's at the getgo, which was last summer.
I've been giving this a lot of thought, as I've been re-sampling the various cheesesteaks here in Philadelphia and finding fault with (amazingly) all. In my opinion, Tribute's has the cheesesteak I'm looking for and I'm very much looking forward to getting back to Portland. Tribute's has my vote!
- Pros: Interesting layout, great food
- Cons: Pretty far from Philadelphia..

Favorite sandwich in town
by PandaHat
I've been a fan of the Tributes meatball wedge for many years. I call it in, & swing by a few minutes later to pick it up & it's almost always waiting for me. The meatball wedge ($7.95) is a delicious favorite of mine-- filled with sliced italian sausage (i think) meatballs, covered in mozzerella and a delicious red sauce. The bread is that kind which is soft on the inside & crusty on the outside, like good italian bread should be. Usually half the sandwich fills me up, so the other half can be thrown in the fridge for another meal.
Lately I've tried a couple different sandwiches: the Italian sub & the cheesteak. Neither of them disappointed. I'm not a huge fan of their pizza, but the slices are generous sized & loaded with cheese.
The service is always friendly and quick. I love this place!
- Pros: everything except parking
- Cons: parking (so ride a bike!)
Authentic Philly Cheesteaks!!!
by AlisonBarrett
As a Philly native and a transplant to Portland. I was pleasantly surprised to find this little deli tucked away. Tributes has everything authentic about a Cheesteak as you can get out here on the West Coast. They even have it down to the Amoroso roll! The peppers are a no go, but it doesn't hurt their points in my book. Way better than Genos or Pats from what you've seen on the tube. Don't ever try one of them if you ever make it out to Philly and want a delicous Cheesteak (that's correct, one word, not a typo).
Their other sandwiches were delectable which consists of Boar's Head meat products.
Tributes made my shopping experience off of 23rd that much better!
Don't be shy, give it a try!!
- Pros: EVERYTHING!
- Cons: You'll want to eat the whole menu!
pizza heaven!
by nativeofpdx
I recently paid a second visit to Tributes wondering if my first experience was true or if it had grown to legendary porportions in my mind. I nearly dreamed about this pie, it was so good!! I am happy to report that it was not a fluke. During my encore dining experience, I wanted to dance on the table and shout because the pizza was sooo good! The crust evaporated in my mouth and the sauce was perfection. The folks at Tributes certainly know what they're doing. They are the Dale Chihulys of the pizza realm.
- Pros: phenomenal pizza!!

the american dream come true
by eli123
This pizza freakin' rocks! This is the way pizza was meant to be. This pizza is right with god. Thin, chewy crusts, (but wonderfully poofy on the Sicilian style) and plenty of toppings but not too much, serve to make this a favorite. Everything melts together perfectly, and there are no clashing ingridients, just incredible Brooklyn pizza. The french fries are awesome. Period. They have a crunchy outside and a firm inside, and just the right amount of salt and pepper.
There is a large selection of beverages, including the wonderful but hard to find Dr. Brown's cel-ray soda. Needless to say, this is awesome.
There is an exellent ambiance, for a pizza shop and it feels very homey.
Overall, I would totally reccomend this. BEST PIZZA WEST OF NY.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: nothing

Recommended by a friend we tried tributes. I love the philly steak sandwiches! I had to try the pizza everyone raves about- yuck! Tasted like ketchup on a dinner roll! If you want good pizza go down the street to escape from ny.
- Pros: Sandwiches
- Cons: pizza
A slice of old New York, just off trendy 23rd Avenue.

In Short
Northwest denizens in the know line up day and night for the thrifty pizza-by-the-slice selections and the hefty East Coast-style sandwiches. Vintage photos of New York, a TV tuned to ESPN and hunky staff give this popular spot a friendly, neighborhood-deli feel. Pizzas come in two styles--the classic, floppy thin-crust variety and the carb-heavy, thick-crust Sicilian style are both best with the fennel-laced sausage and pepperoni combo.
