Best breakfast and lunch in the neighborhood

by bingosnoon

The Kingston Bar and Grill is the best bet for lunch in the area. Food is good and reasonably priced, the prices are affordable and the servers are pleasant. What's not to like?

My co-workers and I go there at least once a week, sometimes twice. Not only that, breakfast is served until 2:00

  • Pros: Price is good, easy to meet people headed to the ball park.
  • Cons: some people are turned off by the neighborhood

Worst Service Ever! (and it was a slow morning!)

by wilgowilco

Walked in at 11 am to get a drink and a burger. Monday morning mind you, slow! I counted four other tables besides myself. Got the drink at 11:05 and that's the last I saw of the not too aware "server". Waited and waited while everyone around received food and drink. On top of that I couldn't get the "server" to acknowledge me and that means no tab so I had to pay $10 for a drink as it's the smallest I had and I couldn't contain my anger anymore, I had to leave. McDonalds is a few blocks away, cheaper, and better SERVICE!

Down-home sports den offers drink steals near PGE Park.

by Contributor

In Short
PGE Park's minor league postgame crowds that pack this place. It's quieter when the stadium sits empty or the multitude of TVs in the bar show B-list sports between seasons. The homey interior provides a big-screen TV at one end and eight other televisions broadcasting various sporting events. Daily drink specials mean a few bucks go far. In the summer there are Long Island Iced Teas; in winter there are Tuaca-laced hot ciders.

Boooo!!! Don't bother.

by smoosed

The Kingston is the closest place for my friends and me to watch football on a Sunday. Which is great if we could only watch the games we so nicely asked for . . . we happened to be the only people in that room, we'd asked our waitress, the bartender, and even the manager/owner(?) overheard . . . however the tv's were not changed until someone finally came into the room in a "huff" and said, "What is it you want?"

We work in restaurants! Nothing should take this long. Asking for some extra condiments took 20 minutes. Asking for more coffee took longer. We shouldn't have to ask for MORE coffee! Yes, even when it's busy (which it really wasn't. Did I mention we were the only people in that room?).

Don't bother. Drive the extra distance to go to somewhere where people actually want your business.

  • Pros: bloody marys
  • Cons: bad/slow service, average food, smokey atmosphere

Chain-smoke Much?

by blacklung

Holy cow, I couldn't believe how smokey this place was! Even in the no smoking section (which only had smaller TVs) smelled like a dirty ashtray.

I went there for the NCAA basketball tournament and since I was meeting someone there and didn't want to miss the game once it started we stuck it out, but man what a freakin' chimney. The food was decent, the service was good, but unless everyone in your party is a smoker I'd avoid this place like the plague.

Other than that is was so-so for watching a game. The picture quality on the one (and only) big screen was poor, and at an event like the NCAA men's basketball tourney is on don't expect to ever hear the audio very well.

  • Pros: Decent Food (Greasy), Decent Service, Fair Prices
  • Cons: , Poor Video Equipment, Did I mention Smokie?

I've been here hundreds of times

by tomveil

Great breakfasts here but mediocre lunches & dinners. I think they buy some of their food frozen from the grocery store across the street such as the breaded shrimp. The atmosphere also varies wildly: some nights it's like walking into a high school cafeteria where there's alcohol; other times are nice and calmly quiet (which is my preference.) It's noisy and kind of unpleasant (like most sports bars are,) when some sporting event is on the many televisions they have, and you can't even get inside this place after an event at PGE Park across the street.

  • Pros: Great breakfasts, 22 ounce draft beers, Golden Tee golf game
  • Cons: Noisy crowds at times, Mediocre lunch/dinner, Revolving wait staff
