New chef, improved menu, excellent atmosphere!. If you are looking for a new place to try for dinner, put The Brasserie on your list! The new chef and owner put an emphasis on quality French/American dishes and do a great job. The food is well above average with very good presentation and they offer a full selection of local craft beers.

The capper, though, is the atmosphere. I would put it in the top 10 for Portland, maybe the top 5. Nice layout, great decor, and fantastic character from a building that has seen it's share of history. Located in the Park blocks, this is an ideal stop for pre or post theatre events and museum trips alike.

All around, a great dining experience!  View Less

Disregard any reviews prior to May 17th, 2011!!!. This is definitely not the Brasserie mentioned below! It has been freshly and competently remodeled from the front door to the menu! When you walk in, the place is comfortable and inviting. Whereas, in prior years, it was so dark and closed-feeling you weren't sure if there was any other patrons, let alone employees! The staff is very accommodating and the the menu is worth coming in more than once a week. They have two happy hours(every day?) and on Sundays they just started serving an incredible Brunch menu. We've eaten there a few times since the re-opening and have not been disappointed! I recommend going to the Brasserie hungry, because you will want to try so many different items! Five Stars!  View Less View More

Do not APPLY at the BRASSERIE!. I want to write this review because I wanted to share my experience applying to this place. I HIGHLY encourage people NOT to apply to this place for any employment position due to their unprofessional business. I was asked to come in for an interview and on the spot for a "training" on a certain day as well. Immediately, I got excited and thought this was a good outcome. Boy, was I wrong! I was given no paperwork to fill out which I though was unusual. To make the story short, I went in for training and not to mention the people there had no idea what was going on and the girl that was training me was all over the place. I was told by the manager she would get in contact with me about the scheduling and she never did. It's been almost 2 weeks...

Don't bother with this "so call" fancy restaurant. Your just going to waste your time and let alone not get paid for "training" as well. No wonder there are such negative reviews.  View Less

Why not zero stars?. This place should go away. I knew they were struggling yet I continued to give them a chance. The last time I went in I thought they had finally got a hold of something good. New Chef? New Attitude? Whatever it ws they were on an upward swing. Now the word around town is they shut down because of new ownership. When I asked my industry people who had bought it I was floored to find out it was a couple notorious Portland Restaurant scene criminals (Let's not name drop). Then, after talking to a couple former employees, hearing that they treated their former employees like #@$% shut the doors for a couple of months to "reinvent " themselves. Industry people and foodies alike, stand up for integrity and boycott this place. Shame on you Brasserie.  View Less View More

Is this really French food?. Besides the Escargot, Pate, French Onion Soup and Frogs Legs on the menu, there was nothing truely French about the restaurant. I was seated, in the fairly empty restaurant, right next to the only other diners. The French Onion soup was "gratinee'd" with a mozzarella mix which enhanced it's overly sherried blandness. The Halibut was cooked perfectly moist, but served with a lukewarm sauce and lukewarm accompaniments. I skipped dessert. The crayons on the table were annoyingly pizza parlor-esque, but the server was pleasant and professional, and the music soothing.  View Less View More

Should have died before the makeover. Went to Sunday brunch with my wife and kids. Prices are ok, its what you get. I ordered the Lamb Hash; it consisted of two eggs potatoes and no lamb, it was dry and would not doubt if it was left overs from the day before. My wife had the mushroom omelet, nothing to write home about. I will not go back, 40 bucks and the meal was 75% potatoes.  View Less View More

Not what we expected. In the past Brasserie was a restaurant we saved for special occasions, it was always a wonderful night out, with exception food, great music and entertainment.

We decided go back to celebrate a birthday, since we haven't been since the reopening. We had requested a "good table" near the stage, toward the back. What we got was near the door and out in the middle of the restaurant. When I mentioned our request to the hostess, she said she would let us know when something became available in the back, which she never did. Next the menu, very limited choices there. No red meat except the veal. 6-7 choices of entrees. Our waitress did explain the special, which was a fresh salmon, only to return to the table a few minutes later and state they are all out. Two friends ordered the veal, which was the worst cut they had ever been served, my husband had the clam linguine which was outstanding, and myself and another friend had a couple of appetizers for dinner which were mediocre at best.

All in all, we were very disappointed in the service, the food, and the overall experience. We won't be back  View Less

Superb. We went to the new Brasserie last week and it is INCREDIBLE. It is beautiful in the renovated space. Our server was on top of it, very polite and knowledeable. Our drinks were perfect and the food was amazing. We had the lobster tail which I have seen negative reviews about and did not have the same experience at all - they were delicious! We also had the artichoke heart appetizer and cheese plate - both awesome. The entree was the best part. I had the stuffed chicken (not sure of the name) - it was so, so, so good!! I definitely recommend it. Finally, the music was awesome. You can tell the new owners took great care the decor, ambience, menu, music and service standards. We had a great date night and will be back lots.  View Less View More

Casual elegance. We've found our new local hang out! This place has the greatest selection of affordable wines, superb and friendly service, delicious gourmet food, and awesome live music every night! To top it all off, I just found out about and sampled their brunch menu....oh my, the biscuits and gravy are the best in Portland. Whatever you do, check this place out for brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, or even drinks and desert. And if you are up for desert, the rotating creme brule trio is always fabulous!  View Less View More

Portlands Big Disappointment!. We made reservations to celebrate a birthday on July 18 Sunday Brunch. Prior to remodel we could not get in without reservations. THe place had 1 other table besides ours for Sunday Brunch! Now you would think the food would be exceptional, knowing the reputation of the past. We were so wrong! We ordered the Banana's foster to come before we ordered our meal, to sample. We were given several "excuses" as to why they were not served. We had to ask at the end of our meal to bring them anyway. They might as well put them in the garbage! The server said they take longer to make! Your kidding right!!! THe Hollendaise sauce was served in a pitcher and was like glue. You had to use a knife to get it out and it was cold! 4 our of 6 meals were cold! The potatoes were burnt, the breakfast special was put under a broiler and burnt, we had to ask for the toast and the server told us to share the order! What is that about???? Our wait for food was 3 times the normal time to wait. Horrible!!!! They need a Manager, "Chef" and some knowledgeable servers! Not recommending this place!  View Less View More
