We love this place and can't wait for it to re-open, If you had a bad experience there I would urge you give this place another try ( when it re-opens ). If it is open I hope someone will let me know.
This is one of the best places to go in Portland and I AM a critic, believe me. Try thier lobtster tail appetizer,
yum yum, and killer bread too.
I have no idea what these people are talking about

I have been to this restaurant several times. On dates and for anniversaries. I have never had a bad experience. I have always called ahead and made reservations at least two days in advanced and have always received prompt and curteous service.
The food has always been excellent and the atmosphere and attitudes have always been wonderful. Maybe at the time they went it was under different management. I don't know. But, I can tell you that myself and my dates have always had a great time there.
- Pros: food, music, romantic
- Cons: good luck finding a seat if you haven't made reservations

As a long time customer, we were shocked recently with the decline of service and general caring by the staff. The food was slow and bland, the server more concerned about talking to the other servers, and the lack of smiles in the whole place made us wonrder if something has happened to the management. Or more liklely, the servers think they run the place....
Smother your senses with nightly live jazz, prime people watching and French fare at this eclectic, kitschy downtown bistro.

Worst Experience of my life eating out

I still can't believe my experience at this place. I had been a regular customer, enjoying evenings listening to jazz, drinking at the bar and occassionally eating a meal there. One night, while out with my girlfriend, I asked the waiter if he could ask the chef to prepare some pasta with marianara sauce without any meat and maybe throw in some vegetables to boot. Since I have gotten this request filled at this restaurant before, I didn't think it would be a big deal. The waiter looked at me like I was from MARS; he gave me the biggest blank stare you can imagine and then said well we can do some kind of Pesto. Well, I wasn't going to argue about whether they could or couldn't do the marinara...maybe the waiter didn't know what marinara was. When I got my "pesto" pasta...the pasta was SWIMMING in oil, it was inedible and simply disgusting. I was hungry and could only get a couple of bites down. I complained about the pasta and the waiter tried to convince me that that is what Pesto was..it was SUPPOSED to be swimming in oil...I know what pesto is, but not is a SEA of oil for G-d's sake. The waiter just kept arguing and did nothing to suggest an alternative and I bacame more and more frustrated..I told him that this was unnaceptable and to take the food away...To this the waiter became OFFENDED and asked me to leave! I couldn't believe my ears. Well, after telling the rude son of a gun to go away, I made my exit and told the host about my experiece to which the host blamed me for going off on the waiter. Needless to say, this has ruined this restaurant for me forever. I will NEVER go here, never rocommmend it to friends and will actually discourage anyone from going here. The only consolation I feel is that I recently heard that this restaurant went out of business. I am not a vindictive person, but I can't help feeling that the management, waiters and staff deserve their unfortunate fate for the lousy service and rude treatment of their customers. Good riddance!
- Pros: Music
- Cons: Everything else- Bad Food, Bad/Rude service from top to bottom
What a terrible experience.

I wish I had read these reviews before spending my money here. We were rudely seated by the manager, waited 45 minutes for our food (we were one of three tables when we arrived) and only got a single refill on the coffee. When we pointed out the poor service to the manager, he wanted nothing to do with us. Spend your time and money at a place that deserves your patronage, not here.
- Pros: Great art
- Cons: Slow service, Poor managment, Mediocre food
OK dining experience

I was sort of disappointed by this dining experience. My girlfriends and I made reservations, however we still had to wait for a table upon our arrival. The service was satisfactory, and the decor left something to be desired. The fried brie with green apples was delicious, though, whereas my main dish (sun-dried tomato and cheese ravioli) left MUCH to be desired. The cheese was orange and tasted like velveeta, and the presentation was pathetic. The highlight of the evening was the jazz trio that spiced up the atmosphere and made the dining experience a little better. Overall, I was disappointed, but I will definitely go back to give it another try. Perhaps it was an off night...
- Pros: live jazz, Fried brie & apples, wine
- Cons: ravioli, decor, average service

I'm glad my meal was paid for by someone else, or I really would have been peeved. Unimpressive lamb, tolerable salad. Vegetables cooked into mush, which included the hard white inside part of unripe tomatoes for some reason. My dining partner's croutons were completely stale. Just to be sure we had another friend try them. Tough as leather. Desserts were fine. Decent cocktails. If you want French go somewhere else.
- Pros: cool atmosphere, decent drinks, chocolate mousse
- Cons: overcooked vegetables, stale croutons, uninspired food
Good Place for Drinks, but have dinner elsewhere

Unless a hulking, elastic mound of bland cheese, melted on mediocre onion soup excites you, stay away. Were there space, I could say such negative things about all of the food we tried. Not only is it not French food, but it's quite simply not good food. On the other hand, the ambience is quite nice, and the service decent. I'll never eat there again, but I might go for drinks.
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Food
pretty room, crappy food

I was astounded at how bad the food was. "Seafood bisque" was like canned tomato soup with fish thrown in. "Nicoise salad" was tuna straight out of a can, no dressing, boiled egg with greenish egg yolk, no greens or green beans. Fried oysters were not awful, but one bad one in the bunch ruined the experience.
- Pros: easy to get a table, pretty room, cheap
- Cons: bad food, so so service
