Happy Hour
by SuzeC
I'd give 1/2 a star off for having a hard time finding parking yesterday, but not an option in rating system here. Everything else was easy and great. Hard to find a better deal in town. My favorite happy hour in town. Bartenders are very nice. Fun to sit at the bar and watch drinks get made.
- Pros: food, fun, prices
- Cons: parking
Packed!
by JillianS
I have never seen so many people packed into a bar! I went with a couple of friends, the dj was playing 80's music, the drinks were interesting and delicious. I love the tropical cosmo with guava in it. It became harder and harder to get a drink as the place kept getting busier and harder to get to the bar. Generally a memorable night but it would have helped to have a second bar or something on such a busy night. I really liked the place otherwise. I'll definitely be back.
- Pros: DJ and Tropical Drinks
Great Sunday Night Out!
by miller063
It was a sleepy, rainy Sunday night, but the room, food and drinks made us forget about the gloom outside. I had the salmon which was perfect and my girlfriend, a light eater, had a couple of appetizers. She loved the tapioca dumplings. Just a great place to have open on a Sunday night. It is hard to find anything outside of a hotel that is open downtown on Sundays.
- Pros: Food and Drinks
Horrible Experience!
by KevinPDX
Fiance and I went to Saucebox, excited to try some new cocktails and get some dinner. We were seated promptly, got our drinks and appetizer as expected (appetizers were bland and tasteless). Then the long drawn out wait for the food occurred. After waiting 45 minutes we asked when our food would be ready. Our server actually told us that they prepare the food for the dining area before those of us sitting in the bar section. Apparently our money isn't as good as theirs. After several inquiries with our server, she said they were plating it up and it will only be a couple minutes. 30 minutes later (without any food) we told them we were leaving. Worse dining experience we've had. SBX=SUX.
- Pros: Zero, this place sucks
- Cons: Never received dinner
I Love the Nightlife....
by JonLovesKate
I'm getting older, I am not going to say how old, but this place consistently delivers a late night vibe that takes me back! I really enjoy the music and the drinks are some of the best I've had. I wish the late night menu was bigger but I've always enjoyed what I've ordered. The food is good.
Design-driven locale attracts the see-and-be-seen crowd.

Out-of-towners, well-heeled professionals and bar hoppers in skinny jeans and heels convene at this established cocktail destination in the heart of downtown. With a colorful drink in hand, they scan the room, checking out the sultry, minimalist decor and Seussian wall mural--and the handsome creatives in the corner booth. Next door, in the heavenly white dining room, a white-jacketed wait staff serves artful Pan Asian dishes of roasted Javanese salmon and pupu platters to upscale, moneyed clientele.
Darling Saucebox :)
by Sambop
There are so many great restaurants in Portland that there is never a need to revisit one in the same year. I love eating out and trying new things but I have to say that my dark darling Saucebox, keeps me coming back week after week for the happy hour drinks and food. It is my preferred hangout because of the ambiance, food, drinks and most importantly financial accessibility. It isn't trying too hard but impresses anyone I bring with me.
Other favorites of mine are Castagna Cafe, Cafe Mingo, Bluehour and Nuestra Cucina.
- Pros: Food, Waiters and Drinks
- Cons: Too close to Burnside
Super Place, Great Food and VIbe
by JSF22
We really enjoyed our dining experience. I had the salmon and my wife had the ribs. Both dishes were delicious. Great cocktail list. The place is dark and moody, music interesting. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in town. I was told there is late night entertainment. Looking forward to experiencing that and trying more of the cocktail choices. All and all a great evening.
- Pros: Loved the Salmon
- Cons: No Valet
Disappointed
by belmontlover
I was totally disappointed with saucebox after hearing such great things about their happy hour. Their menu is pretty extensive and they have items grouped from $1 - $5. I ordered the summer/fresh rolls ($3) and superior noodles ($3) and their cocktail of the day ($5). Granted the prices seem cheap, but the portions are tiny. That would have been totally fine and at this place expected, if the quality was good, but I thought the dishes I ordered weren't even worth it when it came to quality and taste. You can get better rolls at any other thai or vietnamese place, probably the worst rolls I've gotten in a long long time. The noodles were okay, but they were served in a bowl and half of the bowl was the sauce, so by the middle to end of the bowl it was like eating soup and kinda gross. I won't be recommending or wanting to go here again.
- Pros: nice seating/atmosphere, attentive staff, free taro chips
- Cons: parking, cost, quality
Great atmosphere, great drinks and food.

I was joining some friends for a dinner/drinks to catch up with them. The waitress was awesome and had great recommendations (especially for some of those whom are picky eaters). The drinks are original and the food is very flavorful. I would recommend and go back again!
- Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Food, Service
- Cons: Parking
