I expect excellence and they came through!

by SerenityRiver

I work at a local hotel very close to Southpark and I like to sample the restaurants in the areas for good suggestion. The last few times I have taken someone downtown, I have taken them to Southpark! The staff there are very friendly and attentive, the food is magnanimous! I had the Halibut the last time and cant say anything more that amazing! I love their wine selection! I dont find very many places that have the specific Reisling that I like, but they do! I also get fantastic comments from guests that I send here! If you like good food, good service and a great wine selection, then do not miss going to Southpark!

  • Pros: Service, style, food, Has my favorite wine!

Great Place!

by threecup

I had an amazing experience at Southpark. The wait staff does a great job of pairing the food and wine. The seafood was fresh and the whole meal was delicious from appetizer to dessert. The atmosphere was also very warm and comfortable.

  • Pros: composts! great service! knowledgeable wait staff!

Good bar, ok restaurant

by aroundtownfoodie

The food and the ambience at the restaurant were a little bland. The bar area is nice except for a couple of tables that are in the traffic lanes. The bartender was super nice and knowledgeable. Great place to grab a drink and a bite before a show at the Schnitz.

  • Pros: Bartender, Location
  • Cons: Bland restaurant, service can deteriorate when busy.

try the lunch

by preea11

I really enjoy lunch, atmosphere and decor! I love the vibe. My only complaint for dinner is the calamari with the veggies are more like a deep fried blooming onion, lighter would be better since its an appetizer, maybe a few more drink option for the bar, loved the crab cakes. There was this bean soup I really liked for lunch.

  • Pros: lunch options, crab cakes, wine list, oysters
  • Cons: parking downtown , didnt have their signature cookies for dinner

Rude and Unprofessional Management

by TainaLatin

Third time at this restaurant and last! Had dinner reservations for a party of 6 at 6 PM and was told I had to tender the table back by 7:20 PM as they had another reservation. I told them it was fine as we had a show to attend to at the Schnitzer. What I was not predicting is that the other 2 couples would be caught in traffic, one of the steaks was not cooked correctly and had to be sent back, our waitress, who was very nice, was very busy with other customers and could not provide a fast service. Before we knew it, it was 7:00 PM when we finished dinner. We ordered desert around 7:10 PM and before it was served and by 7:30 one of the managers came to our table with an attitude to tell us we had to leave because they needed the table. What a rude and unprofessional way to handle the situation! I am a firm believer of "it's not what you say, but how you say it." This is the first time in my life I have been told I have to leave by a certain time. What this restaurant should learn is that we can't predict certain situations (like horrible traffic jams, raw, uncooked food and slow service). I encourage this restaurant to never do this again to any customers as now there are 3 very unhappy couples that will never set foot on this restaurant. Believe me, the are are so many wonderful restaurants out there and this one will not be in our list anymore. To the waitress that served us - I feel bad because the person that paid the bill did not leave a tip. I know the dissapointment was not caused by you, but the rude manager that ruined our dinner experience.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Slow Service and Rude Management

On the edge of great.

by sssmick

What's nice about South Park is many-fold. It always has a solid wine list with interesting choices made by someone who is obviously paying attention to the global and local wine business. Service is always solid, well-paced and executed by professionals. The menu is interesting, mature, and remains modern enough; exceution is always solid and thoughtful. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, not unlike an homage to European bistro and cafe spaces, but upon closer inspection, it falls apart as dated, and this is my biggest gripe. The mural, that covers the North wall (while clearly laboured), reminds me of late 80's Napa-wine-craze art; It doesn't lend credibility to the restaurant. Likewise, the Ikea-looking lights above the bar harken to a college dorm more than a bistrot or gastro-pub. They detract from the gorgeous wood of the floor and horse-shoe bar. I imagine warm beige walls with muted lighting, which might make the bar and floor pop and be the focal point, as wood work of that much quality should be. Also, antique ceiling fans in the wine bar area would be sharp. On my last visit my server was able to read my pace and needs with ease and was very pleasant. However, a spill on the floor next to my table from a passing server went untended throughout my visit. (To be fair, I only ever have dined and sipped in the wine bar, never the main dining room.)

  • Pros: Solid staff, thoughtful food, good wine list.
  • Cons: Dated, schizophrenic atmosphere.

Reserve a booth

by lunnie1981

I went to Southpark for my first time and Enjoyed the cuisine. I made my reservations 2 weeks in advance and ask for a booth because i was on a first date and wanted to have a LITTLE privacy. When we got there we were seated at the SMALLEST table i have ever seen. Other than that the service was amazing and Enjoyed there selection of wine. I will go back but i will Demand a booth.

  • Pros: Wine list, Service
  • Cons: Small tables (get a booth)

wonderful experience

by violetta1976

I work nearby yet had never been, so on a whim my coworker and I went to Southpark for lunch today. I had what was by far the best hamburger I've had since moving to Portland. I'm in heaven right now.

  • Pros: ambience, service, food quality
  • Cons: price is a little high, but I think worth it

Great late lunch place

by ksnelsonptld

I stopped by at 2pm to have some lunch. It was very relaxing and no crowds. My server recommended the Italian "Sub" sandwich. I thought it odd to have this on the menu, but went for it. It was so flavorfull and tasty. The bread was fresh, tender and just the perfect outside crust. Give it a try.
