Incredible Pizza
by LackawannaSteel
Rocco's slices are always a welcome refuge for the very hungry temporal being who would like to consume nutrients in an earthy and cool non-corporate atmoshphere . . . and it is just accross the street from Powell's Books (how conveeeeenient).
Also, if you are ever looking for a big feed (for many peoples) to-go, I can highly recommend their 19 inch pie. It is generously topped with whatever you like (their pepperoni is thick and tasty, unlike the "razor-thin shavings" that you get in some places) and the huge pie is in a square shape in order to maximize the capacity of the box in which it is placed (who ever heard of this?).
For this gargantuan take-out pie, I would recommend asking to have it "double sliced" (to make for smaller pieces), so that you can have the pleasure of taking on just one more slice without having to make a huge committment.
The (vintage) Pinball Machines and Pac-Man are an amazing form of happy entertainment if you are hanging out (especially with kids). This place is an ethnographic experience for a 10-year-old.
Rocco's reminds me of those street-wise pizza joints in Buffalo, NY where I grew up, and where no one settles for second-rate pizza.
- Pros: It's a Pizza Institution, price/value ratio is amazing.
- Cons: dunno
Worst Pizza Ever
by Artopium
Terrible pizza! Don't be fooled just because this place is next to Powell's books, the pizza is really not that good. Waaay too much cheese, sauce is very generic tasting (grade F quality?) and probably the greasiest meat I've ever had the displeasure of digesting. Although the slices are big, do you really want that much bad pizza? Not to mention the service is just as bad. After sitting at the outdoor tables for about half an hour, drinking beer and trying to digest all that greasy cheese, we were asked to leave! I couldn't believe it. There were plenty of outdoor seats available ( we were the only ones out there!) but we were told that we'd have to buy something more to continue sitting there. How rude! And possibly a bad liabilty move for a business that sells alcohol. If you're in the area and you're hungry, there are plenty of better places to eat nearby such as Pita Pit, Whole Foods, Thai Peacock, and many more. Pita Pit is very reasonably priced and much healthier. Not to mention the staff is much friendlier.
- Pros: location, that's it
- Cons: poor service, poor quality ingredients, poor pricing
Ouch!
by epicuriousgeorge
It's decent pizza in a decent location. Definitely not worth going out of your way for. But if you're really hungry and nearby go for it. At least try it. On second thought, don't waste your time or money.
- Pros: the pizza doesn't completely s u c k
- Cons: thick, tasteless crust, might as well get little caesar's
Cheap and Chill
by adam251
Rocco's may not be the highest quality pizza in town, but it makes up for this with a great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. $3.00 for a slice of pizza may seem like an average price....but these things are HUGE! Being the big eater I am I can manage two slices of these bad boys, but I like to save room for beer...and being able to move is also a plus...so I stick with one piece. The people that work there are friendly enough, the place itself has a great feel with art all over the walls, and good music playing all the time. From inside you have a great view of the 12th and Burnside intersection which can be a spectacular place for people watching....one of the best in town. The people that frequent Rocco's are diverse, and mostly all friendly. It is much more friendly that many a pizza place....no bad vibes. Oh!...and there is pinball! BONUS!
Good eats.

I love going to Rocco's Pizza. it's pretty inexpensive and tastes delicious. I would recommend it to any of my friends or family. a great place to hang out. they play great music!
- Pros: great music, great atmosphere.
At least they have cheap pitchers!
by sannemichelle
The pizza and sodas are cheap, but Pizza Schmizza is better if you're looking to save money and/or time. Pizza is always reheated and the crust tastes stale and hard after sitting out under the lamp for too long. It is a fun location (across from Powell's on Burnside) so if you're not picky about your 'za and want some pocket-pleasing pitchers, Rocco's is a good hang out.
- Pros: Fun locale, cheap beer
- Cons: Reheated pizza
Bad pizza
by Dosifei
I've stopped into Rocco's twice now. The first time I thought it was an off day. The second time confirmed that Rocco's serves terrible pizza. The crust is flavorless, tasting like it might be made from cardboard. It's also too thick. The cheese blend was also pretty bland, and the sauce tastes like the kind bought at your typical grocery store (Heinz?). I had to sprinkle on copious amounts of seasonings to make the pizza edible. Avoid.
- Pros: Conventient location
- Cons: Bad pizza, indifferent service, ugly interior, dirty
certainly better around
by yodan
large slices, but overloaded and soggy. certainly better in the area, go up the street and get some escape from new york.
- Pros: food for $
- Cons: soggy luke warm pizza
Excellent prices on excellent pizzas (as long as you get them made-to-order)
by maalox
Other reviewers have already summed up Rocco's pretty well, but I had a few things to contribute. Their biggest flaw, by far, is that they make their most popular varieties (Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, etc) way too far in advance. But here's the deal-- don't let the pre-made stuff tempt you. Find a menu. Notice that for the same price, you can order a personal pizza with whatever toppings you want. They'll make it on the spot, and it comes out of the oven in much better shape than the stuff in the warming case. It takes a bit of savvy to get what you want at Roccos, but it's easy to get used to the cheap prices and hip people.
Not good.

I really didn't enjoy this pizza at all. Ordered a slice for lunch, watched them put it in the oven and yet they still served me a cold slice of pizza. It was stale and bland anyways once they did heat it up. I'm guessing people only like this place because of the convenient location. The pizza was lame.
- Pros: location
- Cons: pizza
