Poker machines and keno if you can get waited on.
by Upullit
Rude nasty bartender won't even notice you if you are not on his " to do in the toilet" list. I won't go back again even though I work really close. I warn everyone new to Portland about this bar. I would not even give it one star if I had the choice. I am glad Portland has many more choices for gay people. I did send an email about a month ago before I wrote this review. Ofcourse I got no response from them.
- Pros: Pool, lottery, keno
- Cons: Bad bartender(s)
Good drinks

These days that I have been going here, its either busy, or not, really just depends. The bartenders for the most part are just there to serve there favorite people, the waiters are very nice and friendly. There seems to be a mix of young to older guys there, so you should be able to find someone to chat with if you go there alone for a drink. Me being a smoker, I will be sad when we all have to go outside just because these bars could put better ventalation in the building so we all can enjoy a good time.
- Pros: Smoke bar, good music, pool
Cold Coffee From A Warm Staff
by parkerveruski
I have visited four times since it's opening. Each time I find it to be filled beyond capacity not with patrons but with SMOKE. The staff is friendly, the music is nice and the decor fairly modern with exposed brick wall, raised flooring on both sides of the bar and creative coloring, I would have to say that the idea was to allow gay men to meet, chat and relax. That being said, the music is too loud to talk over without shouting. The coffee is almost always cold or luke warm, the drinks could be a bit lower in price and the restrooms being open for 'viewing' by anyone pissing is tasteless and insulting in my opinion. Make those changes and you have a good quality local gay-hot-spot.
- Pros: Warm decor, friendly staff, good music/DJ
- Cons: Cold coffee, open bathroom stalls, smoke filled until 2009.
Pretty disappointing
by pdxclubber
I'm pretty new to Portland and kept hearing that Scandals was the place to go to met fun men. So I stopped in on a weekday and was surprised to find it pretty empty. Except for the few over-the-hill men with really outdated clothes and hair centered around the bar, most of the men were young and hot, plus the music and drinks were good.
I had a few drinks and when the server seemed to be off for the night, I moved up to the bar and chatted up the bartender a bit. He was flirty, and even though his goatee and sideburns were kinda lame and he seemed pretty short, I thought, "Hey, this is a good bar, even the is friendly. I'll stick around and chat until someone hot comes along." When he asked me if I wanted to meet him in the bathroom, I thought why not. That is, until I saw the open sores on his you know where.
Sorry guys, this might be a cool scene for some people, and I love a one night stand as much as the next guy, but I have to ask, what kind of clientele goes to a bar where a herpes outbreak isn't an automatic deal breaker? Clearly I'm not the first guy the bartender came on to. The deal was sealed when he didn't even wash his hands on the way out. I'll be sticking to Boxxes for the time being!!
- Pros: decent enough drinks, good lighting
- Cons: really smokey, sketchy customers
Venerated gay bar is the perfect perch for scoping out the sights around Portland's rainbow row.

In Short
Long a comfortable neighborhood gay bar, this gathering moved up the street and was renovated into a scene-y hotspot. Located near ground zero for gay culture in Portland--this bar still serves up great people watching and a stylish vibe for the diverse mix of people that frequents it--everyone from leather daddies to office workers. Part of the bar is reserved for pool, darts and lottery games.
I'm lovin' the new Scandals
by snowman121065
I have gone to Scandals since I moved into Portland 16 years ago, and the NEW place is the best gay bar I have been to in this town, and equals those I have been to in NY of SF! I love the staff and the atmosphere they create- fun, caring, and safe.... Never a concern and never an empty glass (even if it is water).
- Pros: BIG windows, Nice lighting, BATHROOM to die for!!
Very Rude Bartender
by jpob55t
I've gone to scandal's in the past, and would definitely recommend the atmosphere, drinks, and cheap prices. Most of the staff are very friendly and great. However, one bartender is notorious for being on power trips and denying service to patrons he deems drunk. I went in there the other night with my friend - he had red eyes because of bad allergies (it's that time of year in Portland). This same friend had also not had one drink all night. The bartender refused him service, claiming my friend was drunk, and then pretended to call the police. This guy needs an attitude check!!
- Pros: Prices, Drink Selection, Atmosphere
- Cons: Staff
Cheers FOR QUEERS!
by lakeyscott
Hands down, the friendliest bar in town! Full bar, 18 beers on tap, happy hour everyday (except Sat) till 8pm and ALL DAY SUNDAY!
Lots of "Regulars" mixed with out-of-towners. A game room with Video Poker, Pool and Darts! Separate Cofe'/Jazz bar! Artwork changed out each month-from local; beginning, to established Artists.
Cute - Fun - Competent Staff!
- Pros: friendly
No girls allowed

I work across the street at the Mark Spencer in the evenings. I stopped in there on Thanksgiving evening (as nothing within walking distance seemed to be open) to catch a bite to eat at the bar. While the bartender was awesome (REALLY NICE), I got the feeling that I wasn't welcome by any of the clientele. They kinda looked at me like, "What the heck are you doing in here, you GIRL?" I thought boys clubs went out of style with the 80's. I don't think I'll be returning, unless I magically grow that which would make me a man. LOL!
- Pros: Great service
- Cons: Snobby patrons
