The store says that they will fix any jewerly that you buy. But they can take for ever and charge you an arm and a leg for it. They do not give you your money back, unless you call the Office for help with buyers in Oregon.

I have had two bad repairs and one ongoing nightmare. When I had a broken prong on the basket of a ring repaired it came back mis-shapen. When I complained I was told they could replace the basket for "only wholesale" price. I finally took my ring to Canada where I got much better advice, problem solved, same-day service, for a fraction of the cost. I do find their attitude to be quite condescending and unapologetic. A bracelet I had made continues to lose it's stone. Maloy's is happy to charge for replacement each time but has been quite smarmy about how it's a flaw of the design -- well, where was the "expert" advice to help me avoid paying for this bracelet over and over when I was consulting with them on the creation of it? Another bracelet I paid $60 (ten years ago) to be glued. When it all fell out just weeks later the owner's wife's attitude was, "Yep, that's right, it's just going to keep happening!" and charged me again. I blame myself for being too slow to catch on that they are awful. I will never take my jewelry there again. Bottom line: Moloy's does not guarantee their work.

My fiancee purchased our engagement ring at Maloy's in January. It is simple and perfect and came with an amazing story. Anyone interested in conflict-free diamonds, and "recyling" jewlery should come to Maloy's. The resize only took twenty minutes when we came in after he proposed. The staff were very knowledgable and helpful. We came to Maloy's to look at wedding bands as well. They ended up being our only stop! I found a nice band and we ordered one for my fiancee. It was ready in just days. Our rings are being sized now. We had and excellent experience.
Pros: Staff assistance without pressure. Nothing like the mall stores.
Cons: Gold and Jewelry are expensive.

i was a little disappointed in the repair work done to my grandfather's watch. the workmanship was only ok and the prices steep for the quality (and was more than the estimate). i will not have any more repair work done here, but will instead go to margulis in pdx or rossoffs in seattle. the antique selection is ok for a store of its size, but i prefer margulis, arnells or rossoffs.

I had two wedding bands made here to match my 1920's platinum engagement ring and the work they did was absolutely amazing! They were able to match it exactly, it looks like it was always a set and I love it more every time I look at it! Not to mention they had them done in two weeks! My sister got a ring here to go with her engagement ring as well which is gorgeous! The first time I heard of Maloys was after falling in love with a friends ring that was made there as well, one of the most unique pieces I'd ever seen. So I am speaking not only from personal experience, but from knowing many happy customers, when saying that Maloys is the greatest! The staff is so helpful, unpretentious and friendly and the prices are totally reasonable. I can't imagine a better experience. Thank you Maloys!
Pros: Unique place, great quality, timely, affordable, lovely staff.
Cons: None

i have NEVER publicly berated a small business, but i might do it now... i will never set foot in this establishment again. their selection is beautiful (though VERY pricey), the employees are friendly (if you don't complain), and it IS a very special place...but they are quick to lure one into a trust of their repair skills (which seem to depend on your perceived wealth)...i brought my antique engagement ring to them for some simple repairs and sizing, and they BUTCHERED it. and then yelled at me for complaining. and then i had to wait a loooong time while a bottle of champagne was pulled out of the back for another gentleman who they seemed to know and was spending a LOT more money than i was... the problem was never resolved, and since they don't really keep good paperwork, there was nothing i could do about it. at first or 20th visit this place is FUN and unique, but between the cattiness (ripping on other business owners doing the same thing), the absolute grouchiness when confronted (and confronted RIGHTLY- they decreased the value of my fabulous vintage piece by botching the repairs- and then UNAPOLOGETICALLY implied i was stupid and irritating- in front of other customers), the parking nightmare, the severe overpricing (they buy pieces from local people and mark them WAAAAAAY up) ....it may not be worth it when there are other genuinely nice and honest people in this town. if you go here (i wouldn't blame you-especially for an engagement ring), keep meticulously detailed receipts of what you've asked them to do. check the work thoroughly before you leave, and NEVER expect to play the "old friend" card with them. complaining may cause them to hold onto your piece for 2 months or more "until it's ....done..." (trust me on this one) it's a flip of a switch when you question them or complain. i still wear my beautiful ring, and it's still "franken-ring"....it's a fun joke around my house. good luck!
Pros: beautiful stuff, ever-changing selection, vintage/antique is where it's at.
Cons: meanies when crossed, fair to poor skills at repairs (seemingly by choice), unnecessarily expensive

I have been shopping at Maloy's for years. My first experience was a beautifully designed ring to hold the 1920's circa diamond given to me by my mother-in-law. I am constantly receiving compliments and am happy to tell everyone where it came from. Since then I have purchased several wonderfully unique pieces. It is never a dissapointment to drop in to see what is in the case and I am always greeted as an "old friend." I highly recommend Maloy's as a place to find unique jewely items or to have something created for you personally.
Pros: friendly, knowledgable staff
Cons: none

The Headline pretty much says it all. While the work they did for me wasn't terrible, considering the price, it left something to be desired.
