Sneaky charges, but I guess it should have figured. . .

Came in here with my cousin and her fiance (it's been a few months ago now), thought we would grab some happy hour and check it out a little. While ordering our drinks at the bar, we asked if the pool tables were open, the place was completely deserted mind you. Told the bar we were going to play a game and would be ordering food. We played two games and sat by our table for 2 hours, during this time only two more tables became occupied. We ordered apps and each had a couple of drinks. when received our bill it was over 80 dollars, only 50 of that charging for consumables. We were not informed that they're was a charge for pool at all hours, tho we should have assumed it. And even if we had assumed it we never would have expected to pay 30 bucks to play a couple games of pool and eat. Had it been busy we would have moved to a typical table or the bar, but as I said the place was bare!
Basically, I would have expected the bar to inform us of the charge, and perhaps our server to let us know that even though we aren't playing pool, we are being charged by the hour to be parked beside the table during their slowest hour.
Beyond that, I was incredibly disappointed with the prawns in the anchovy butter. I nearly gaged. By far the worst thing I have ever eaten. I would recommend they remove the item from the menu, if they haven't done so already.
- Pros: great pool tables, nice atmosphere
- Cons: terrible seafood
Upscale pool hall brings back a swanky speakeasy style.
by Ashley Gartland
In-the-know imbibers and pool sharks climb the flight of carpeted stairs that leads to this virtually invisible billiards club. At the top, a clubby space unfurls with a parlor-like dining room on the right, an expansive billiard hall on the left and an immaculate bar in the middle. The billiard tables attract a crowd but just as many clientele come for the speakeasy-style scene and upscale cuisine. Patrons lap up corn and crab chowder in a dimly lit dining room, where they enjoy entrees like lamb with a cinnamon cabernet glaze before finishing their meals with raspberry sake sorbet and another round of drinks.

Such a deal! A flight of 5 interesting wines paired with 5 small plates of food -- featuring fresh raspberries thru the end of July. This "Happy Hour Experience" is available 4-7pm. The food is excellent and the service friendly.

Great Billiards, Great Customer Service, Excellent Atmosphere All Around!

This is a great place to come if you are looking for a kick back place to shoot pool and even have a dinner with friends. The waitresses were very friendly and always there to help if you needed something. Their salads are amazing as well as their burgers. Since I am a non-smoker, if helps that they are a non-smoking environment. I would recommend this to all age groups who can attend.
- Pros: Non Smoking and excellent service with spectacular food
- Cons: Pool is a little spendy, but still worth it
A fun, upscale environment

I went here to have a few beers and play pool. The night I went was a little bit less crowded than normal for some reason, but the menu selection was great and the tables are in good condition. I had a flatbread pizza, which is an amazing deal for 6 dollars! The staff was very pleasant and easy to talk to.
- Pros: Good tables, Old school, 50s vibe, Good food

The Scene
From the climb up the carpeted stairway to the vista of immaculate pool tables, Uptown Billiards has the feel of a private gentlemen's club. There's even a cozy den with easy chairs and faux-bookcase wallpaper. The waitstaff is welcoming, catering to the normal northwest Portlander clientele--not pool sharks, earls or gangsters.
The Draw
Billiards is the main focus here and regulation-size tables available. Food and drink are affordable and well-presented. Expect fresh-juice cocktails and snacks like portobellos, grilled bread and fruit and cheese plates. Indulge in opulent drinks like the Beautiful (warm Courvoisier and Grand Marnier), or a single-malt scotch. The lengthy wine list ranges from reasonable to opulent, with Dom Perignon displayed prominently.
