Good place to enjoy the city
by kee22
Pioneer Square is a good place to enjoy and observe the city culture. It's definately a good spot for people watching. Also a good spot to enjoy nature, relax, or meet up with people. The fountain is really nice. I also like the weather machine, which announces the weather forcast at noon.
- Pros: Good place to people watch and enjoy the city
- Cons: a lot of pidgeons
A hub of activity for shoppers, tourists, street musicians, office workers and food vendors.

In Short
Portland prides itself on a lively downtown, and this square is almost always abuzz with all kinds of people and activities. Once a parking garage, thousands of bricks now make up the Square, which hosts political rallies, concerts, flower shows, festivals and other community events. About 75,000 people donated money for the Square's construction by purchasing bricks; look closely and you'll see donors' names engraved beneath your feet.
GREAT PUBLIC SPACE
by portland_mike7456
It is so nice to see a space that has been designated for the general public to enjoy. This is also a highly noted design that has made it's name known world wide. People can come and observe other people, watch cars go by, enjoy the nature of the city, and relax in a unique setting.
- Pros: Large area to observe, Intriguing atmosphere, Good place to relax
- Cons: Crowded at times, Strange people, Downtown parking
PCS=a relaxing time for me......

i love pioneer courthouse square. a relaxing place if there ever was one. fantastic place to get some thinking done, and observe human behaviour, from punk kids to little kids chasing pigeons. each season speaks to me here, with the cold wind whipping down morrison street in the winter, to feeling some serious heat on a hot july day sitting in the sun. i find solace here when i need some me time.
It all starts here

Rain or shine, Pioneer Square is where I start my sightseeing tours when guests are in town. Easy to get to via Max, it's a rare display of civic art and functionality combined, and full of hidden treats. You can always find "colorful" personalities hanging around (not to mention watching some of the hottest street chess games this side of New York). Throw in the fact that there's probably a concert or festival (or protest) going on, and it's always interesting.
- Pros: centrally located, open air, anything goes
- Cons: anything goes
You're Square, We're All Square!!

What an awesome place to just sit and watch the downdown flow if not watching all the colorful year round events the Square has to offer, also a great central meeting spot for an afternoon downtown. As a teenager I loved the square and so did all of my friends, no place is more lit up at Christmas and if you love to write what better place to undo writer's block as all walks of life are sure to be buzzing everwhere!
- Pros: easy transit, coffe house, Nordstroms Heaven
- Cons: pan handlers, pigeons
