best coffee in the country
by diningcompanionsforever
probably the best coffee in the country!!! affable, professional service.
the only thing not to like about this place or the other stumptowns
are the lines. pastries are occasionally a bit on the weak side. this
should be a model for how to run a quality business.
- Pros: coffee
- Cons: not much

Great Coffee!
by heidi1234
Outstanding coffee, admireable business ethics, worth the wait in line...... I have been going to the Stumptown on Division since they opened years ago. The coffee is consistently great and I enjoy supporting a local business.
The staff picks the music and the art is always interesting. The staff is friendly enough most of the time, but not all of the time. It was more than a little uncomfortable when I witnessed the staff being indifferent (well, more like rude) to a "less than hip" customer.
If you enjoy great coffee you will love their coffee.
- Pros: Outstanding Coffee!!
- Cons: Inconsistent service
Coffee Snobs Unite!

Stumptown is only tasteless to those whose palates require heaping spoonfuls of sugar, creamer, and artificial flavorings. I'm surprised that Stumptown, with their notoriously high standards, allows places like Vivace and New Seasons to serve (mutilate) their espresso. Those in Portland who recognize the difference between the rich, deep, velvety, creamy, bittersweet-chocolatey goodness of an expertly crafted macchiato, and the giant dose of sugary sludge Starbucks shamefully deems a "caramel macchiato,"also know where to find it: Stumptown and/or The Albina Press, the only place I know of to get Stumptown right.
- Pros: Real Baristas.
Mocha was horrible
by bdiddy728
Tried out the Stumptown at 4525 SE Division for the first time. I've had Stumptown at other places like Vivace's on 23rd and have liked them a lot. The coffee at this place, however, is horrible. The mocha that I ordered had absolutely no flavor to it. I've gotten more flavor drinking water out of the tap. Would not recommend it. I know that I will not be returning for another visit.
- Pros: Has a parking lot
- Cons: indifferent barista's and bad coffee
Best flippin' coffee EVER!
by betty_b
You know, the best part about Stumptown are their business ethics. They are a responsible community business that deserves all of our support... and the coffee! Holy shmolly the coffee is unbeatable!
of course the coffee is great, BUT....

what the hell is up with an exclusively male work force in the roastery? sure seems to be a tattooed boys-only club. as progressive as stumptown is in other areas, it's a real bummer to see that.
Quite possibly the Holy Grail in the crusade for the perfect cup.

In Short
The doublewide space--deep industrial bays connected in the middle--makes this coffeehouse hipper than most. The walls showcase the work of local artists in a revolving display and, while there's usually a line, it moves briskly and the staff enjoys a disarmingly pleasant repartee with customers old and new. Meticulous, daily in-house roasting ensures consistent, fresh beans with character and rest assured that coffee in the self-serve pump is French press, made frequently.
Best brewed coffee in town
by deansue
service was terrific, coffee is fantastic, bought some beans and made the best home brewed
ever. The Mocha was below average.

I love stumptown, I tell everyone about stumptown. If you love coffee you need to try stumptown, if you like coffee you will end up loving coffee after stumptown. We are so lucky that we get to enjoy stumptown here in the NW. There are so many cool places in Oregon that serve stumptown. Orgasmic coffee!
- Pros: Everything
