Good food, Lousy service
by Primavera at Citysearch
The Delta used to be one of my favorites, due to its good down-home cooking. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens, grits, and the like are pretty delicious. As for service, though, last time we went, we were served with typical 'hipster' attitude. By this, I mean that we were never checked on during our entire meal and our plates were brought to us without a word, and our bill brought to us with not a word again, not even 'thank you' or 'here you go'. I thought we were being given the silent treatment or something. So if you can stand the risk of that, plus a noisy atmosphere, then by all means go! But I will go elsewhere.
- Pros: Good Food, Affordable
- Cons: Inattentive Server, Crowded, Noisy
Fried chicken heaven

You can't do much better for the money than Delta. The fried chicken is my favorite dish--so crisp, tender and delicious. Everything I've tried, from the ribs to the jambalaya to the greens and mac-n-cheese, is very good, the portions huge, and dirt cheap. Atmosphere is funky and fun, though service can be a little hipper than thou, in a grungy sort of way. Be prepared for a wait; there's a line every night of the week.
- Pros: cheap, huge portions
- Cons: crowded
Crowded with great service

The delta was packed and we called ahead on a saturday evening, told them there were about 10 of us comming to eat dinner...was not a problem for the servers..very prompt and friendly!
- Pros: unique servers, great food, interesting people
- Cons: loud when busy
Delta, it's not.

This food is about as southern as Santa's elves. Speaking from 26 years living in the south, I'm experienced in the ways of soul food. The first clue this was going to be all wrong was the music. Comfort food is best digested with the blues, cajun, zydeco, or at least some jazz; not the loud, indie-and-trendy noise playing this night. The spices were bold and in-your-face, instead of layered, aged and sly. The greens were actually flavored and had structure, instead of boiled until they drooped like spanish moss from old oak trees. The cornbred and red beans and rice were passable, but again, the spices were farther off Bourbon Street than an AA meeting. I was too disappointed with dinner to investigate what sacreligious act had been committed upon the Amen of the southern dinner- the pecan pie. The 1 1/2hr. wait promised quality that failed to appear.
- Pros: nice server
- Cons: everything else
Very close to authentic..

Having grown up in the south, and having been to New Orleans, I feel like I am qualified to opine on this restaurant. The cajun food is not bad. They need a LITTLE tweaking, but flavorful, and plentiful. They have sweet tea, and fried green tomatoes. (2 southern favorites), but there are NO free refills on obviously brewed tea. INSANE! The food IS good, and somewhat authentic. Slightly tweaked for the area.. obviously..
