Love it...Love it...Love it ~Authentic Portland at its BEST
by digitybomb at Citysearch
Oh the Delta Cafe let me count the ways I love you. Maybe its the gigantic portions of goodness. Or the house infused drinks that are bigger and cheaper than any other place in Portland.. Perhaps its the well loved atmostphere, totally creative, some what like a voo doo lounge done Portland style. Yes it has off days but what restaurant doesn't....i Go here if your looking for a dining experience like no other, big plates of food - try the fried chicken with the tater tot casserole- OMG... and wash it down with a Bloody that comes with a salad on top..
Tuesday night eat and drink specials.. you can't beat the huge cocktails for $5...
- Pros: Authentic Portland Vibe
A keeper, definitely!!!

What a great spot for New Year's Eve!!! This place has energy, funk and some great mixed drinks while chatting up pals and loved ones. They play great music but it is never too much to have a decent conversation over. I've been hankering for some crawfish e'touffe lately and this place has a good one. My friend's blackened catfish was perfectly cooked and the roumelade(sp?) was to die for. You gotta love the pbr in its own ice bucket as well. This spot is definitely one of our favorites in town as it is consistently great.
- Pros: unpretentious, great food, drinks, music, staff
- Cons: Listed as cheap eats and it's not THAT cheap
Amazing tofu dishes and wacky Drinks

I love this place. They infuse many of their own liquors and make super tasty beverages out of them Like the Duke of Earl. It's Earl Grey infused vodka with vanilla soy milk. Totes souds weird, I know, but it's like drinking a light version of a delicious White Russian. Mmm. Refreshing.
The BBQ Tofu Po' boy is also quite yummy. The sides that these folks serve with their main dishes are seriously fantastic. I mean really, tater tot casserole is nothing short of a miracle to me. The home made mac n' cheese is scrumptious, and even the okra is tasty. That's right. Good okra.
The service there is consistently good. The servers are friendly, fast, and make great recommendations. The atmosphere is pretty rad and there is a weird little shrine in the back room. Go here for a tasty affordable meal, and you will not regret it.
- Pros: Stupendous food for not much moolah.
- Cons: Only open after 5.

- Pros: cheep beer
- Cons: often crowded
Southern Fried Fantasy
by SackyD at Citysearch
Delta Cafe simply rules. If what you're craving is great southern-style comfort food at a reasonable price then you can't go wrong with this Woodstock beauty. They have a dizzying selection of sides including the standards mac-n- cheese, biscuits and gravy and grits - all served to perfection and in copious amounts. I have fallen under the spell of their fried chicken and have had a hard time ordering much else. Lately however the saucy, spicy ribs have knock some sense into me, reminding me there is plenty more on the menu worth knoodlin'. The fearless will appreciate the strong drinks that will put a smile on your face as you admire the down-to-earth hand crafted decorum, devoid of the pretension that plagues many other less worthy bistros. The service has always been prompt, friendly and helpful without being over-eager and never aloof.
I?ve been to the Delta Cafe several times in the past year and the experience just keeps getting better.

(first time review) We took my mom there for her BD since she grew up in the south. I loved the decor, we all commented on how much we liked the music playing, the menu was funny and creative and the food was correct and delicious. Our waiter had a great attitude; we asked where the cornbread went and he actually ran to get it for us. I'm eating the leftovers right now for lunch and the smell is intoxicating. I don't think you could really design a resturant like this on purpose - it's just the real Portland character.
BEST SOUTHERN/SOUL FOOD IN PORTLAND
by pixie29 at Citysearch
I have yet to eat at a southern/soul food place better than Delta Cafe. It is great! We have been to Bernie's and Screen Door and they are overpriced w/no flavor. Delta is the real deal (or as close to it as possible) w/great fried chicken and yummy mac-n-cheese. The portions are great and the price is good, things are homemade but they only take cash!
- Pros: Food is great!
- Cons: Didn't have A/C during summer, kinda warm in there
Good food, cool ambiance,,,need to shut the front door on cold night

Great food and unique ambiance. The food portions are hugh. I had the catfish, mac and cheese, collared green. YUM. Another had the creol and corn bread. I ate some of it and it was wonderful, large and tasty. Another in the party had fried chicken, more mac and cheese and cornbread. They loved it. The fourth person had the "white trash meatloaf" - funny name, great taste and large portion. Of the four, the smallest portion was the catfish, fortunately the others were not as hungry as I was...I got to taste, finish portions of there dinner. Bummer for them, more time in the gym for me, but worth every bite.
The only down side was the place was very cold due to open doors at opposite ends of the building....fix that and it would be superb.
We found the place on the web and next time we are in town, we shall return, with a warmer coat and a better appetite.
Thanks for the web lead on this place...
- Pros: portions, taste, cool setting
- Cons: cold and needs a bit more lighting
Great place for drinks and grub
by hohum234 at Citysearch
I love this place. Not only does it have good food, huge portions, stiff drinks, but the staff is friendly and fun. Yeah it gets busy and service is not 4 star but that's not what this place is all about. If your looking ofr a funky atmostphere, some real character, good peopel watching and just plain 'ol good food come here. If your looking to be sucked up too and need a flashy new "contrived" place go to the pearl.
- Pros: Fried Chicken and bloody Mary
The best southern food in the Northwest.

You will love this place. We went on a double date to roller skate at Oaks Park. So this was an easy stop for dinner. The place was lively but not too noisy. The service was very attentive and helpful. And the food was so good! Two of us had the blackend catfish. That was so amaing. A huge piece of catfish. The meatloaf was really good. and the collerd greens were so good. Oh and the mashpotatos with gravey!
Over all good time. And a great bloody mary. And a nice price.
- Pros: Food, service, Bloody mary
- Cons: The beers are too big.
