All these raving reviews, I'm guessing are from long time customers? Anyways, my partner and I have been going here for about 3 years (since we moved to the Woodstock area) just because it's close and cheap. We get the same thing every time: Pork fried rice and Pork foo young... why? Because everything else tastes better when made by Safeway right across the street. It's Americanized Chinese to the point that it's really just American food prepared by Chinese people. I also have to say that THIS RESTRAUNT IS NOT GAY FRIENDLY. Two other gay couples besides us have had horrible experiences when they brought their partners. On one occasion our server actually threw our teapot at us, which SPILLED! I've been a waitress for over 4 years and I can't even being to tell you the levels of apologies I would spout if I had spilled hot tea on a customer -- but not her! She actually got mad at us and left us with extra napkins to clean up what she very clearly deemed to be our fault (even though neither one of us even had the opportunity to TOUCH the tea before it rolled over!!). The food is OK, but nothing special (I’m ¼ Chinese, been to China and eaten food, so I think I’m a good labrat who’s been around the pen) it is very Americanized aka no salt+pepper prawns, no fun noodles with gravy, yeah. I must tell you that this is not a gay-friendly establishment. Our other friends who have gone into Wong’s as a couple have told us they were treated disrespectfully (ie waitress don’t: fill water, ask how food was, fill tea, bring boxes, etc) while watching in plain view as the waitresses put on smiles and made conversation with the other customers with male+female pairings. I just don’t feel right supporting an openly homophobic restraint with terrible “Chinese” food. If you want good Chinese, great service, and just plain the real deal go to Powell’s Seafood Restaurant on Powell’s and skip this dump.
Pros: cheap, close-in, fast, fried rice
Cons: Americanized Chinese, homophobic, bland dishes
