Ah, Coffee Time. Been there multiple times now since I started going to school in Portland. It's open late (until 2am) which is awesome, especially if you are looking for something fun and different to do on the weekends (good sober conversations late at night!). And I love that they have warmers outside to sit under while you smoke and drink your coffee! That being said, the coffee is not the best. Of the five or so times I have been there, I have had a good cup once. Otherwise it's been burned or not very flavorful. Also the baristas can be really snobby. But I guess that's just part of the whole NW 21st/23rd scene and all the little hipsters who hang around up there.
- Pros: Open late, reasonable prices, warmers for smokers!
- Cons: Coffee. (Sometimes) snobby baristas.

This coffee spot is open late and has a classic old hippie bordering on trendy feel now, but it is the same good old outside seating with heat lamps during the rainy sleety months and inside booths with high backs for privacy, also the secret rooms with silly bootlegging stories to boot.

This place was a staple of my pre-21 days. It was open late, and had a fun, grunginess to it. Nowadays, it seems much tamer. The coffee is alright, but it's sort of a hassle to go here. I don't think they're open 24 hours, but they're open til at least 2 or 3.
Okay coffee, TERRIBLE cookies.

The coffee is mediocre, good tea. I decided to try their chocolate chip cookie and it was the worst thing I have EVER had. It was extremely hard, had few chocolate chips, and tasted terrible. I asked the barista to heat it up in the microwave and she used her hand to do so and it still didn't taste better when softened. This place has an awesome vibe and serves an important role in the NW. But never, ever, ever, buy a cookie here!
- Pros: Awesome vibe, interesting people, good tea
- Cons: BAD COOKIES
Pretty Awesome

I really like the unassuming nature of Coffee Time. You can just go in, have a coffee and stay for either 1 hour or 6. The people who gather here are probably the best part, though the coffee is pretty good too. Great social scene, relaxed, pretty good music on some weekends. There's one barista who's kind of a smartaleck, but aside from him this is a pretty cool place.
- Pros: coffee, social scene, decor
- Cons: not a lot in the way of food, a few dessert choices would be good

With all of the nooks and crannies in the back, it's easy to loose track of time while sipping on a delicious coffee, reading or using the free wireless network, and munching on a panini.
The only downside is the smoking that is allowed at the tables outside. The smoke can make its way through the front door and into the front room in the winter. In the summer when the garage door is up, the entire front area of the the coffeeshop can be flooded with smoke at times.
- Pros: Good Coffee, Wireless internet
- Cons: Smoking, Parking
Delicious Chai!

Great homemade chai. Beautiful, fun murals (despite some dumb graffiti). Comfy couches and chairs. Lots of noise--great for first dates, bad for quiet studying.
- Pros: coffee, chai, comfort
- Cons: noisy, crowded at times
Absolutely delicious

This place was amazing. I got drinks for 3 people and only paid $7. The iced-tea was FULL of flavor and the espresso was the best I've ever had. Attended late on a Sunday night when there were plenty of people around, but comfortably so. Music, company, product and service were all fantastic and appreciated! And the fact that it's open late is great, considering that's a prime time for that sort of atmosphere. Bring a journal, book, or even a friend :D
- Pros: atmosphere, music, seating
- Cons: parking
Err... not my first choice. Or 2nd/3rd/4th...

Coffee Time is spotty. I've been in several times over the years (I moved to the neighborhood about 8 years ago) and while it was tolerable at first (that first year I moved here), I found that there were many better places in the neighborhood. The coffee (drip) has always been average or below. The barista's have always been too into their scene/vibe rather than their work/product. The crowd have always been either too pretentious, too "I'm too cool with my clove cigarette," or too smelly. These days, I even cross the street so I don't have to pass by the outdoor clique. I heard the owner sold the place to the workers... so maybe things will improve. Who knows. The place just never made much of an impression on me.
- Pros: Open late..., Er...outdoor heating?, Cool art on the walls
- Cons: Spotty service., Spotty coffee., Spotty clientele.
